―Wakabayashi upon witnessing Revice's arrival[src]
"Do you know what being a hero means? It's knowing what you're capable of. Only those who recognize their countless failures and setbacks will truly become a strong genuine hero."
―Wakabayashi encouraging Hiromi to continue at Fenix[src]
Yujiro Wakabayashi (若林 優次郎,Wakabayashi Yūjirō) was a high-ranking commander of Fenix.
Yujiro Wakabayashi was born sometime in 1985.[note 1] Sometime in his adulthood, he was a high ranking member of Fenix who trained cadets to one day join the organization. Some of his students included Hiromi Kadota, Chigusa Yamagiri, and Tatsuhiko Tabuchi. One day as Hiromi was failing in class and planning on quitting, Wakabayashi encouraged him to stay, which would later result in Hiromi going from the bottom of his class to the top.
The Revice System[]
Wakabayashi had became a head commander and spearheaded the development of the Revice Driver following the appearance of the Deadmans who raided the Fenix Genome Laboratory and stole a valuable amount of Vistamps. During the Deadmans' attack on the Fenix commencement ceremony, Wakabayashi was on the Fenix Skybase bridge observing the birth of Kamen Riders Revi and Vice on the monitor screen, citing the necessary evil to fight demons with the power of demons.
While he observed Kamen Rider Revice's first battle on the monitor screen, Wakabayashi was unaware that Skybase had been breached by the Chameleon Deadman. Surprised to see the intruder, Wakabayashi was attacked and disintegrated on the spot. Since that day, Wakabayashi was impersonated by the Chameleon Deadman, who preferred to use Wakabayashi's face even for his own private usage due to his dissatisfaction with his actual appearance. Ultimately, he was exposed and killed, avenging Wakabayashi.
Legacy[]
Despite his remains having disintegrated into nothingness, Wakabayashi was posthumously given a memorial gravesite, which was later visited by his now-former students Hiromi, Chigusa, and Tatsuhiko.
After Hiromi discovered the secret behind his own usage of the Demons Driver, he became disheartened and unsure on what to do. It was then that he remembered his late mentor's words about heroes being able to stand up in the face of adversity.
After Hiromi left Fenix out of fear and went back home, he began to fake having amnesia. Wakabayashi's spirit would appear to encourage Hiromi not to give up as overcoming a fear was just a part of life and that he'd already gone far since.
"You won't protect anything by throwing your life away. But you've changed, been set back, and ultimately overcome that. Now prove to me... that you've truly become a hero."
―Yujiro re-ignites Hiromi's resolve to rescue Rumi.[src]
After Hiromi was framed for terrorism by his own clone Muramasa which resulted in him losing Rumi, he was distraught and discouraged. However, Wakabayashi's sprit appeared just when Hiromi was prepared to throw his life away for Rumi. Wakabayashi reminded Hiromi that he had gone through trials and tribulation yet was successful in overcoming those insurmountable odds. As he harkened back to what he said to Hiromi years ago, Wakabayashi asked Hiromi to prove to him that he had truly become the hero Wakabayashi saw in him.
Personality[]
Wakabayashi was a strict but caring teacher who saw the good in his students. He had a strong understanding of what a "hero" meant, and was a mentor to many, including Hiromi. Even in death, his spirit continued to guide Hiromi on the right path of becoming a hero.
