This article is about a Rider in Kamen Rider Geats. |
Win Hareruya (晴家 ウィン, Hareruya Win) is a former staff member of the Desire Grand Prix who transforms into Kamen Rider PunkJack (仮面ライダーパンクジャック, Kamen Raidā Panku Jakku).
During his early staffing days, he transformed into a Keibi Rider (警備隊ライダー, Keibitai Raidā). After being betrayed by Girori, he was forcefully brainwashed into a GM Rider (GMライダー, Jīemu Raidā).
History
Background
As a young adult, Win was the lead singer of a band known as Weather Hearts which he formed in college. However they were not doing good, which led to the band's dissolution. Afterwards, Win became an alcoholic and got into heavy debt. To pay it off, his grandfather who was a major investor and sponsor of the Desire Grand Prix, landed him a job with the operational staff. Win began physical training with the staff members and learned how the Rider Core IDs were manufactured. He was also on-site when Toru Imai was eliminated.
After his friend and bandmate Hiroki Amamiya joined the Desire Grand Prix as a player, Win was part of the group of Keibi Riders sent to eliminate him. However Win defied the orders of his captain Kazuki Mashima and attempted to save Hiroki but failed. When Mashima and the rest of the Keibi Riders attempted to throw a coup to fulfill their own wishes, Girori gave Win an ID Core and Beat Buckle to become Kamen Rider PunkJack.
Encounter Arc
In the third round, the players were tasked to form a tag team by lottery. Due to there being only five Riders remaining, the Desire Grand Prix management prepared a stand-in for Morio Koganeya. Win Hareruya as Kamen Rider PunkJack was assigned as his partner, but was disallowed from speaking or revealing his identity. Throughout the third round, PunkJack assisted Mary against the Trump Jyamato, but struggled to work with him as a coherent team. Morio later requested a partner switch, temporarily putting PunkJack with Keiwa Sakurai.
- "As expected from the Deza-Shin. Looks like the next DesiGra will be fun..."
- ―Win Hareruya excited to challenge Ace.[src]
Even after switching with Keiwa, PunkJack would not cooperate with him as a team. Michinaga Azuma reverted the switch right before the end, leaving Mary and PunkJack in last place to be eliminated. In the final round, he watched Ace Ukiyo defeat the Saboten Knight Jyamato and became the Deza-Shin once more. PunkJack stood alone on a mountain of rubble and reverted his transformation. Win acknowledges Ace’s skills and remarks the next Desire Grand Prix should be very exciting.
Conspiracy Arc
When the new Desire Grand Prix started, Win transformed as Kamen Rider PunkJack in front of everyone, including both Ace and Michinaga, revealing his secret identity. However, Win tells them that the previous PunkJack is not him (despite the fact it actually was him). Now showing off his liking for punk rock and girls, including Tsumuri, he is chosen to team up with Ace in the DGP fights. Win would promptly play in Ace's game of luring him, as he lets him fight all the Jyamato.
Ace showed once again his skills, of which astonished Win, who didn't expect the fox Rider to be this skillful. He is soon shown that he is ordered by Girori to defeat Geats, in order to stop him from winning. He also gives Tsumuri a rhetorical dilemma, in which she has to choose between letting Ace being the winner, treating her as his sister, which creeps her out, or letting Win being the winner, with him openly flirting with her in a way she's annoyed with. However, this was also a part of Win's acting in order to deceive other players as he only joins the game to eliminate Geats from the game, while writing down "No wish" on his Desire Card.
When a brainwashed PunkJack engages Geats during the interim round "Fox Hunting Game", Ace was seemingly forced to shoot down Win, who later self-destructed with Keiwa's Spider Phone announcing "PunkJack Lose".
Geats Extra: Kamen Rider PunkJack
Unbeknownst to everyone, Win had survived the explosion and was hospitalized, though he had lost his memories. He was visited by Niramu, who apologized profusely for Girori's actions as the Game Master.
Months later, Win's Core ID was taken into Suel's possession, who restarted the Desire Royale.[Lamentation F: The Last Judgment]
Yearning Arc
Win and Niramu approached Tsumuri and announced the initiation of the Grand End.[Yearning III: A Sister's Wish, A Brother's Wish] Despite Win returning to ensure the Desire Royale would end, he made a quick betrayal by warning Ace that he wouldn't stop his goal. Win also decided to help Ace on investigating the history of Ace's mother and the DGP.[Yearning IV: Temporary Co-Op]
Genesis Arc
When Win returns to Ace's Desire Grand Prix, he was disappointed that the world is still a mess. When Win confronts with Zitt about their DGP, Zitt began to fight him. Win then tells him that Tsumuri won't turn to a tool in his watch. He revealed to Ace and Tsumuri that Suel's goal is to make Tsumuri the second Goddess of Genesis. When Keiwa took Tsumuri to another place, Win and Ace investigate where he ran off to. He was worried by Zitt's words, saying that "Someone who has a stronger desire may come to rule it, instead." When Michinaga asked why Keiwa joined the Gang Riders, he believes that Keiwa would remake the world again. After the world was recreated by Keiwa, Win has been investigating the whereabouts of Tsumuri who become incomplete Goddess of Genesis, while he finally finds out when Ace and Keiwa started their duel, though he was defeated by Zitt, he successfully rescued Tsumuri, who rushed to stop the fight between Ace and Keiwa. After the world was reverted to original, Win stayed to take care of Tsumuri, who reverts to her original Navigator appearance. When Kekera recreates the world, Win was affected and becomes a pumpkin until Kekera's defeat.
In the final Desire Grand Prix, Win joins the battle by fighting the Game Masters directly to prevent them executing the players, though he was being oppressed, he was soon being supported by a group of Pawn Jyamato(Helianthus Annuus), which evolves to have a kind heart towards humans. After the world has been recreated by Ace, Win returns to his daily life, now pursuing his dream again as a solo punk-rocker.

Personality
As Win was originally disallowed from speaking or revealing his identity, he stayed composed with Morio Koganeya in their temporary partnership, though he would still show some disdain towards him such as punching him harder after Morio lightly punched him, and even bumping into him during when he was announced to switch teams.
After the end of the final round, Win revealed his true identity as a punk rocker who is flirtatious and narcissistic, which is very much the opposite of his previously shown traits. However, part of this appears to be an act he puts up in front of others, so as to distract from his true purpose of observing Ace Ukiyo and eliminating the undefeated champion of the Desire Grand Prix. When he is exclusively by himself or with Girori, he downplays the punk rocker personality and shows a more conspiratorial side
His true wish to be a successful professional punk rocker is revealed to Ace after Win is betrayed by Girori, revealing someone who actually does not have blind loyalty to the Game Master, but only doing his job to be returned a favor, though he still pulled off some underhanded tactics to accomplish it, and a much more sympathetic person who is willing to turn a new leaf after realizing how mistreated he is by Girori. He never liked the idea of being a DGP staff member as he was just doing it for his grandfather, due to Win's failure as a punk rocker that left him in debt.
After recovering from his previous injury and returns to Desire Royale, Win was shown to become a more steady person, as he accepts Niram's invitation in order to fight in his own way to help the people he want. After Grand-End, Win voluntary works for Ace, despite having no paid, while he now makes true friendship with the fellow riders, and now shows a more energetic side to fight with others.

Behind the Scenes
Portrayals
- Win Hareruya is portrayed by Tsubasa Sakiyama (崎山 つばさ, Sakiyama Tsubasa).
- As Kamen Rider PunkJack, his suit actor is Masato Tsutamune (蔦宗 正人, Tsutamune Masato), who is also the suit actor for Kamen Rider Shirowe, Kamen Rider Da·Paan, Kamen Rider Nadge-Sparrow, and the Marella Jyamato. Tsutamune also served as Sakiyama's stunt double in Episode 45.[6]
Etymology
- "Win" (ウィン, Win) is a play on "Halloween" (ハロウィン, HaroWin), tying into PunkJack's motif.
- "Hareruya" is a play on "hallelujah" (ハレルヤ, hareruya).
- PunkJack's name is an amalgamation of the Japanese pronunciations for the words "pumpkin" (パンプキン, panpukin) and "jack-o'-Lantern" (ジャック・オー・ランタン, jakku ō rantan). "Punk" also references Win's punk rocker persona.
Concept Art
Notes
- PunkJack's helmet is an orange version of the bear helmet used by Kamen Riders Shirowe and Da·Paan, though it features a combination of Shirowe's right circle eye and Da·Paan's ears.
- In his debut episode, after being playfully hit by Morio Koganeya, PunkJack hits him back hard in the neck. This was not a scripted act and improvised by PunkJack's suit actor, Masato Tsutamune. Tsutamune apologized to Morio's actor, Koji Abe after filming the scene.[7]
- In episode 9, Win Hareruya is credited as Punk Rocker (パンクロッカー, Panku Rokkā).
- Although Win is a failed musician, his actor, Tsubasa Sakiyama, is actually an accomplished singer and musician in real life, with several albums having been released by Avex.
- Despite not transforming in the Genesis Arc, he is still listed as a Rider in the Game Result for episode 48.
- Additionally, he, alongside Neon and Michinaga (both still active Riders at that point), was erased temporarily due to Kekera's wish of Tycoon being the only Kamen Rider. Thus, this cements Win's status as a Rider at the time.
- In early designs, PunkJack was designed with a cat motif, but it was changed to a bear to not clash with Kamen Rider Na-Go.[8]
- Additionally, PunkJack was originally intended to use Zombie Form to emphasize his Halloween theme.
