The Transformation Belt Vital Charger (変身ベルト バイタルチャージャー, Henshin Beruto Baitaru Chājā), or simply Transformation Belt, is Kamen Rider Black's means of transformation. Embedded upon the center of the belt is the artifact known as the Stone of the Sun Kingstone (太陽の石 キングストーン, Taiyō no Seki Kingusutōn).

Functions[]

There are two Kingstones, one for each Century King. When Kohtaro and Nobuhiko were both kidnapped, they were each infused with one of the Kingstones. However, Kohtaro escapes becoming a Century King thanks to the intervention of his stepfather, Soichiro, and takes up the identity of Kamen Rider Black. Nobuhiko is not so lucky, however, and becomes the perfect Century King; Shadow Moon.

In order to transform into Black, Kohtaro crouches down, cracking his knuckles. He then crosses his arms individually into the air, before circling them into a pose. He then shouts "Henshin!" causing the belt to materialize itself in several red & white flashes. His Rider form then materializes in a shade of green, and the Black logo etches itself into his armor to complete the transformation and refine the armor's features.

Since both existing Kingstone had same functions, it also gave the bearer the equal ability as the second bearer (e.g. control over Battle Hopper, summoning weapons like the Satansaber).

Design[]

The Vital Charger is composed of the following parts:

  • Kingstone (キングストーン, Kingusutōn): The stone inside Kohtaro's body which stores huge amount of energy, allowing him to transform to Kamen Rider Black. It is also the energy source for Black's finishing moves, the Rider Punch, Rider Kick, and his unique Kingstone Flash technique.
  • Energy Reactor (エナジーリアクター, Enajī Riakutā): The red glowing component located at the center of the belt, which magnifies the energy of the Kingstone and delivers power to the whole body of Black
  • Tide Stater (タイドステイター, Taido Steitā): The green and black component located on the left of the Energy Reactor, which stabilizes and controls the power level of the Kingstone.
  • Pulse Trigger (パルストリガー, Parusu Torigā): The red and yellow switches located on the top of the Belt, which triggers a power boost from the Belt, allowing Black to perform a number of finishing moves and combat techniques.
  • Tectrosome (テクトゾーム, Tekutozōmu): Located on the right of the Energy Reactor, managing the self protection mechanism of the Belt.
  • Cell Sheild (セルシールド, Seru shīrudo): Strengthened cells that forms the shell of the Vital Charger, protecting the Belt from damaging.

Sunriser[]

In Kamen Rider Black RX, Kohtaro's Kingstone responded to Kohtaro's crisis and by absorbing sunlight, became the Rider Transformation Belt Sunriser (ライダー変身ベルト サンライザー, Raidā Henshin Beruto Sanraisā). The Sunriser is RX's transformation belt. In response to Black's evolution, Sunriser enables Kohtaro to communicate telepathically and use sunlight to power RX up. That factor places RX at a disadvantage while in an area devoid of sunlight. The Sunriser also allows for Form Change, changing its design to suit the form, as well as providing RX with versatility.

Notes[]

  • The Kingstone had gained the ability to talk to Kohtaro after he evolved into RX, but only used this ability twice. [Covered in Light! RX] [The Miraculous Valley's Princess]
  • Black's transformation belt was unnamed for decades, with official sources only calling it "Henshin Belt". The name "Vital Charger" likely originated from fan blogs in the early 2010s. In 2016, the name appeared officially for the first time on a Kamen Rider Black card for the arcade game Kamen Rider Battle: Ganbarizing. The name appeared again in 2018, in the form of a Puzzle & Dragons collaboration. [2][3]
