This article is about a transformation device in Shin Kamen Rider.

The Transformation Belt Typhoon Opening and Closing Safety Device Equipped Early Improved Type (変身ベルトタイフーン 開閉式安全装置付初期改良型, Henshin Beruto Taifūn Kaihei-shiki Anzen Sōchi-tsuki Shoki Kairyō-Gata) is the transformation belt of Kamen Rider No.2 and Kamen Rider No. 2+1.

Overview[]

As an improved model of the original Typhoon and the Prana System which was originally devised by Hiroshi Midorikawa, Ichimonji's Typhoon employs a new system different from that of Hongo's. While Hongo requires a direct charge of wind to absorb Prana from the air (from either riding the Cyclone, falling from a high place, or being around an area abundant in Prana), Ichimonji's Typhoon condenses and converts the Prana obtained through his own internal respiration into bioenergy for transformation and combat, allowing him to transform even without wind. In addition to the elimination of this weakness which plagues Hongo throughout his battles with Shocker, the overall performance and maximum output of the Typhoon has been increased compared to the previous model, and in addition, a sturdy shutter-like lid has been added to protect the windmill-shaped generator when Ichimonji is not transformed. [1]

Design[]

  • Kamen Rider No. 2's Typhoon is a modern remaster of the the one worn by Ichimonji's original counterpart in the original series. In addition to incorporating a red belt strap, No. 2's Typhoon lacks the sliding mechanism that the Kamen Rider's typhoon has, instead incorporating a shutter-like lid (which had been absent in its previous incarnation) which opens up to reveal the windmill when Ichimonji wants to transform. Like the previous model, the switch on the right-hand side is the energy converter which expels Prana from the vents on the buckle and converter lung (Though footage of Ichimonji visibly discharging Prana had not been seen in the film proper), while the switch on the left-hand side features a dial which he can use to call over the Cyclone remotely for a last resort self-destruct function.

Notes[]

  • As revealed in the VFX breakdown videos posted on the Shin Kamen Rider Twitter, No. 2's Typhoon uses footage of the original Rider 2's Typhoon opening for reference. Remaining faithful to the original, the left half of the shutter slides open first slightly before its right half does. [2]
