History[]
The company was founded as Toyoko Films (東横映画, Tō-Yoko Eiga) in 1938 by Keita Goto, the CEO of the railway company Tokyu Corporation. They began purchasing studios throughout Japan and enlisted the talents of several actors such as Chiezo Kataoka, Utaemon Ichikawa, Ryunosuke Tsukigata, Ryutaro Otomo, Kinnosuke Nakamura, Chiyonosuke Azuma, Shirunosuke Toshin, Hashizo Okawa, and Satomi Oka to helm their content. By the 50s, the company changed their name to Toei and established Toei Animation in 1956. In the same year, Toei helped secure the bid to launch NET TV, which would eventually become TV Asahi.
