Takeru Satoh (佐藤 健, Satō Takeru) is a Japanese actor who portrayed Ryotaro Nogami/Kamen Rider Den-O in Kamen Rider Den-O, with his most recent reprisal of the role in Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Forever.

Biography[]

Satoh was briefly a child actor during his elementary school days but did not continue due to his "shy personality." While was still in high-school, he was scouted by Amuse and resumed his acting activities in 2006, this time as an adult. He first starred in the drama Princess Princess D alongside many of his future Den-O cast members Yuichi Nakamura and Hideo Ishiguro.

In 2007, he was cast into the lead role of Ryotaro Nogami in Kamen Rider Den-O, and made his film debut in Kamen Rider Den-O: I'm Born!. He was diagnosed with pneumothorax during filming, citing chest pains, but has since recovered.

Post Kamen Rider[]

After the end of his tenure as Ryotaro, Satoh continued to star in multiple dramas and films, quickly expanding his popularity within the Japanese entertainment industry. As Toei could no longer afford to hire him for reprisals, Ryotaro would later be re-written to accommodate for Satoh's absence from the role. He would be subsequently replaced by Takuya Mizoguchi, who would portray the younger "Kotaro" in the character's future appearances going forward. In 2018, Satoh reprised his role as Ryotaro in Heisei Generations FOREVER, the first time he has done so in 10 years since Saraba: The Final Countdown in 2008.

In 2012, Satoh starred as the lead role of Himura Kenshin in the live action film-adaptation of the manga/anime, Rurouni Kenshin, alongside Koji Kikkawa and Taketo Tanaka. Because of the film's success, within two years the film had spawned two sequels, titled: Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno and Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends, which also starred Ryosuke Miura and Ryunosuke Kamiki. His work in the films had received praise from the original manga's author, Nobuhiko Watsuki, who called him the ideal actor to portray Kenshin.

In 2015, Satoh starred as Moritaka Mashiro in the live action film adaptation of the BakumanIcon-crosswiki manga, which also co-starred Kamiki.

In early 2021, Satoh starred in two additional installments of Rurouni Kenshin, the sequel Rurouni Kenshin: The Final which co-starred Mackenyu, and the prequel Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning which co-starred Issei TakahashiIcon-crosswiki. That same year, Satoh left Amuse with Kamiki and they both co-founded the agency Co-LaVo.

In 2022, Satoh starred in the drama series First Love alongside former Den-O co-star Hikari Mitsushima.[1]

In 2024, Satoh starred in a live-action film adaptation of Cells at Work as the White Blood Cell. In promotional interviews for the film, Satoh reminiscenced on his Den-O days, saying the level of action required and set explosions were similar.[2]
