Plot[]
Part 1[]
In the Stewart home, the family is dressing up for the Founder's Day Masquerade. For the purposes of irony, Dex is a space alien; Ferbus is at first frightened, but then calls the outfit silly. When Mrs. Stewart asks, Dex says he doesn't mind Earth rituals, but doesn't understand this one, prompting the adults to explain that Nathan Leawood, founder of the town, loved masquerade parties.
Patsy shows up dressed as a nectar-sucking blister beetle, at least according to Dex, who points out some minor errors. She leaves, miffed, and Dex is again confused; he's used to truthful friendships, not ones based on what the other person wants to hear. This reminds him of his Edenoite friends, whom he misses.
Meanwhile on Edenoi, King Lexian meets with Donais, telling him he fears Count Dregon's powers are greater than anticipated. He gives Donais a crystal to grant Dex Super Gold mode, since he can't go himself at a time like this. At this point Dregon's viewscreen, which has been recording the conversation, gives out. However, he learns enough to know where Donais is going, and says he'll never reach Dex. Donais heads for Earth.
Patsy runs into Herbie, and after some banter, he leaves. Patsy notices Donais teleporting in; his impact knocks her over, and her costume leaves her stuck on her back, calling for help. Elsewhere, Maggots burst out of the ground. Patsy's calls for help get Donais' attention, and he helps her up, complimenting her costume--though noting the same mistakes that Dex did. When she starts to leave, he asks where to find Prince Dex. This intrigues Patsy, who strikes up a conversation. As they walk away, the Maggots arrive, but miss him, to Dregon's frustration. His minions argue about their likelihood of success this time, but conclude that Dregon will win.
Dex and Molly head to school to decorate for the holiday, and Patsy and Donais arrive. When Donais tries to enter the house, he sets off the alien alarm. With Patsy slightly deafened by the alarm, Donais starts to introduce himself, but Mr. Stewart quickly covers for him, calling him Dex's distant cousin Donny. Patsy then leaves. The Stewarts are suspicious of Donais, but Ferbus recognizes him and leaps into his arms. They tell him where Dex is, and decide that Ferbus can lead him there, telling him to keep the creature hidden.
At Leawood High, Molly has to tell Dex to slow down--he's painting at superspeed, and Patsy shows off a less-than-impressive poster. On the way there, Donais is intercepted by Maggots. Telling Ferbus to run, he takes on the Maggots with a playground and their own incompetence, but they eventually capture him anyway. Dex's crystal reappears on his forehead briefly, causing him apparent pain and alarming Molly. He isn't sure why, but says he thinks someone he cares about is in trouble.
Aboard his ship, a smug Dregon questions Donais. He refuses to talk, so Dregon decides to turn him against Dex with a memory wipe and neural reprogramming. Also, he's been working on his own version of the Masked Riders, but they are unstable when used for evil, so he decides to use Donais as a beta tester. Donais refuses, but they drag him away.
Ferbus reaches the school and gets Dex's attention. He apologizes to a confused Patsy and leaves with Molly. In the cave, he contacts King Lexian and explains the situation, finding out about the Super Gold crystal. Lexian tells him to continue as he is; Dregon will not take long to act.
Dregon presents the brainwashed Donais to Nefaria, and has him transform into Robo Rider. This pleases all of Dregon's minions thoroughly, and he orders Robo Rider to destroy Masked Rider. He leaves to do so, arriving at the high school, where he demands the location of the Masked Rider. Causing enough damage to scare the civilians away, he walks inside, announcing that sensors indicate Dex is inside. He is briefly stopped by Principal Chalmers, thinking he's a tardy student, but continues.
In class, Dex's insectopathy alerts him to something wrong, just before Robo Rider breaks the door down. He demands to know who is in charge, and when the teacher steps forward, continues to demand Masked Rider before leaving. As their classmates flee, Molly realizes aloud that the Masked Rider-like enemy must have Dex's powers, and he grimly replies that it's worse: he recognized Donais' voice.
Robo Rider empties the school, and Dex finally confronts him, trying to get through to Donais even after transforming into the Masked Rider. He is unable to, and Robo Rider attacks.
Part 2[]
Dex's confrontation with Robo Rider is a stalemate, with both of them awaiting the first move, while the students evacuate the school. Principal Chalmers, at the behest of Patsy (who lies about Molly being her friend), goes back into the school to get Molly out safely and notices the face-off between Masked Rider and Robo Rider, suggesting they "take this outside". The two opponents comply with his uneasy orders, taking their battle to the mountains outside Leawood.
Meanwhile, on the Spider Base, Dregon revels in his apparent victory over Dex, but Gork suggests that Robo Rider may regain his memory, which would ruin the Count's plans. Doubleface asks Fact the odds of such an event, and Fact reports that they are less than one percent, but if Dex is able to jog Donais's memory, Robo Rider will cease to exist. To prevent such an outcome, Gork suggests that Dregon send the Edentada to deal with Masked Rider, but Nefaria advises against it, as she states that that Insectovore is a natural predator of the Edenoites and cannot be controlled, even by someone as powerful as Dregon. However, Dregon decides to follow Gork's advice and sends the Edentada to the mountains. The impact of the Edentada's arrival is immediately felt by Masked Rider and Robo Rider, while the latter declares that he'll destroy the former before the Insectovore can, and then teleports away.
Robo Rider returns to the Spider Base, where he berates Dregon for sending the Edentada, but learns that Gork had made the suggestion and attacks him before the Count breaks up the argument. Robo Rider warns Dregon that the Edentada eats Edenoites and gains their powers. Dregon assures Robo Rider that the Edentada will not gain the Masked Rider powers, while Robo Rider tells his master that if they do not act in time, the Masked Rider powers will be lost forever. Nefaria agrees with Robo Rider, and Dregon orders him to keep the Edentada in the cave where it has landed.
As Dex transforms back into his humanoid form, the Edentada has already shown signs of its immense hunger for Edenoites, wanting to devour Masked Rider at all costs. When it tries to leave its cave, Robo Rider thwarts its efforts and then teleports away to look for Dex himself.
At the Stewart house, Molly and her mother have just arrived back home, followed by Dex a few moments later. Dex reveals the recent events he has witnessed, and also explains about the Edentada, stating it is an Edenoite version of an anteater, except it digs underground, its nose is over four feet long, it possesses mind powers similar to that of an Edenoite (it can create devices from its mind) and it can hypnotize any Edenoite who gets too close with a loud screeching noise. Just then, an earthquake rocks the house, and Dex explains that the Edentada is digging underneath them. Hal explains that there are pockets of underground magma under Leawood, and Dex realizes that if the magma is released, the city could be destroyed.
Dex runs outside and transforms into Masked Rider again, summoning Combat Chopper to take him back to the mountains, where he falls into the Edentada's underground cave. However, it seems he has to deal with not just the Insectovore, but also Dregon's minions: Nefaria, Gork, Doubleface, and Cyclopter. But, to our hero's surprise, the foursome are trying to contain the Edentada, not aid it in battle against Masked Rider, who realizes that if Edentada eats him, Dregon will never be able to claim his powers. During the skirmish between Edentada and the others, Dex tries to warn them that if they keep fighting, they'll release the magma, which has already started leaking, and they need to escape before they are all destroyed. Nefaria tells Dex to mind his business, while the latter prefers to escape rather than fight. Unfortunately, as soon as he is safely out of the cave, Robo Rider attacks him again.
Back at the Spider Base, Dregon berates Nefaria and the others for letting Edentada escape, but she states that it was more clever than they realized. Meanwhile, at the mountain range, Robo Rider conjures a pair of swords for battle against Masked Rider, who tries, again unsuccessfully, to deter his friend from fighting him. After realizing for himself the lengths that Robo Rider will go to in order to destroy him, Dex decides to fight back, by first blinding him with his Ecto-Accelerator Belt and then disabling him with a Rider Kick and stunning him with an attack from the Electro Saber. On this, Robo Rider begins to become confused and cannot even remember why he is there in the first place.
In the cave, Edentada conjures a bomb to lure Masked Rider to him again, while outside, Masked Rider urges Robo Rider not to attack him. Transforming back into his humanoid form, Dex shows Robo Rider memories of himself as Donais, which jogs his friend's memory and also causes him to transform back into his humanoid form. Donais presents Dex with the crystal from his grandfather, and Dex promises to use it to defeat Edentada. Transforming back into Masked Rider, Dex merges the crystal with his suit, causing him to transform into Masked Rider Super Gold. Super Gold proves more than a match for Edentada, who tries to retreat, but is impeded by Combat Chopper. Dex deactivates the bomb easily, and then destroys Edentada with his new Ecto Ray. When Dregon learns of this, he, as always, takes it out on his minions.
Back at the Stewart house, Donais compliments Dex on having found a family, while Dex thanks him for the power of Super Gold. With this, Donais departs back for Edenoi, his mission successful.
