Subaru Samuel Bartsch (昴・サミュエル・バーチュ, Subaru Samyueru Bāchu), better known under his stage name Subaru Kimura (木村 昴, Kimura Subaru), is a German-Japanese actor, voice actor, singer, and rapper best known for his roles in anime and Japanese media such as Takeshi Goda in Doraemon, Ryoma Terasaka in Assassination Classroom, Shoichi Kusanagi in Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, Ichiro Yamada in Hypnosis Microphone and Aoi Todo in Jujutsu Kaisen. He is also the new voice actor for Franky in One Piece, replacing Kazuki Yao after the latter's retirement from the role.

In Tokusatsu, he previously voiced BowlingamIcon-crosswiki in Doubutsu Sentai ZyuohgerIcon-crosswiki, and Bomb JamenIcon-crosswiki in Mashin Sentai KiramagerIcon-crosswiki. He was also the main narrator of Uchu Sentai KyurangerIcon-crosswiki and provided the voice of the Kyurangers' Seiza BlasterIcon-crosswiki.

From 2021 to 2022, Kimura voiced Vice and portrayed a fictional version of himself in Kamen Rider Revice. For the show, he was a featured vocalist for two songs performed by Da-iCE, liveDevil and Dance Dance, and performed several insert songs for his character, including VOLCANO and #GekiyaVice.

Biography[]

Bartch was born in Germany to a German father and Japanese mother. He moved to Japan at the age of seven and joined a children's theater company. As a teenager, he landed the role of Gian in Doraemon, and was close with the late-Kazuya Tatekabe, Gian's previous voice actor.

  • Kimura is trilingual and is fluent in Japanese, English, and German.

Controversy[]

In 2020, an Instagram post (from an unknown date) of Kimura mocking a traditional African lip plate resurfaced along with an image of him in blackface. While the post has since been deleted, Kimura has yet to comment on the incident.[1]
