Sophia (ソフィア, Sofia) is a mystic and the guardian of the Sword of Logos' Northern Base who later became the fourth and current Kamen Rider Calibur (仮面ライダーカリバー , Kamen Raidā Karibā).

History

Background

Sophia's creation.

Sophia is an artificial lifeform based on the image of the priestess who connected the Earth and Wonder World. She was intended to be used to summon the Almighty Book once Master Logos gathered the Seiken and Wonder Ride Books. Sophia was later assigned as the mystic leader of the Sword of Logos' Northern Base and led the swordsmen for over a century.

A Chance Rises Again

Sophia continued to serve as the mentor of the Northern Base once Touma Kamiyama joined the guild and advise him on the danger of getting involved. She oversaw the battle of Kamen Riders from the Northern Base, but has grown suspicious with the return of Kamen Rider Calibur. She begins to suspect that Hayato Fukamiya may not be currently acting as Calibur, and would later learn that Daichi Kamijo had taken up the mantle.

Sophia reunites with Kamijo after 15 years.

Shortly after the revelation, Sophia went out to consult with Kamijo to question his betrayal. Kento Fukamiya would arrive while confused of seeing them together. While Sophia hid from from Espada and Calibur's battle, she was abducted by Reika Shindai using Eneiken Noroshi and disappears in white smoke. She was later shown to be held captive in the Southern Base under Master Logos' watchful eye.

Sophia remained in the Southern Base's captivity during the aftermath of Kamijo's defeat. Reika Shindai took command of the Northern Base and claimed that Sophia is being held captive by the Megid while bringing the swordsmen to the Southern Base. One day, she was visited by Reika and ask if everyone from the Northern Base was alright, only for Sophia to recieve a slap in the face.

While Rintaro spied on Reika, Sophia revealed to hold the most important book for Master Logos' vile plan, the book of human creation. Sophia refused to answer the book's location. While Rintaro wasn't able to rescue Sophia, Kamen Rider Calibur came to the place where Sophia was held captive. Although she thought it was Daichi Kamijo, Calibur unmasked himself to be Kento Fukamiya. She was rescued and returned to the Northern Base, much to the shock and joy of the swordsmen.

War against Master Logos

Sophia returned to her role as support in the Northern Base, now aware that Master Logos is the true enemy within the organization. While the Northern Base was inflitrated by the Shindai siblings and the Megid due to Master Logos destroying the barrier, Sophia attempted to restore the barrier herself and nearly sacrificed herself to save the Northern Base swordsmen, only to be protected by Rintaro, using the Northern Base's possession of the Almighty Book's fragment to become Kamen Rider Blades Tategami Hyoujuusenki.

It would be revealed to the others about Sophia's true nature as a duplicate of the Priestess that connected Earth and Wonder World, but the Northern Base swordsmen assured her that they will still accept her as a close friend no matter what. She also tried to convince Kento to reunite with his friends, which he initially refuse but overtime, returned to the Northern Base now believing Touma could change the future. As Touma gained the power of the Haouken Xross Saber, Master Logos was eventually vanquished for good.

Saber + Zenkaiger: Superhero Senki

One day, Touma was sent to the world of Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger with Mei Sudo and Yuri. Because of this revelation, Sophia is informed from the Agastya Base that Asmodeus had escaped from his confinement and unleashed the forbidden Kamen Rider and Super Sentai books. After the heroes manage to defeat Asmodeus and his army of villains, Sophia was at Agastya Base to see the Kamen Rider and Super Sentai books return to the bookshelf. She noticed a new book in the shelf titled, Kamen Rider Revice, and picked it out to read.

Storious' Endgame

Though they were victorious against Master Logos, Storious began to enact his plan to destroy the world. Following Tassel's death, the destruction of World World began affecting Earth. Rintaro participated in minimizing the disaster, but Storious grew stronger after becoming Kamen Rider Storious, ressurecting the Four Sages in the process as his loyal followers. Sophia learnt that, like Yuri, her existence is slowly fading due to Wonder World's encroachment caused by Tassel's death. While Yuri was able to maintain their existence, he and Sophia are unsure how long it will take for them to live.

Together with the rest of her comrades, Sophia joined with the rest of the swordsmen in their final march against Storious with Ankokuken Kurayami in her hand. She transformed into Kamen Rider Calibur and fought with Yuri against the horde of Shimis while the others storm Storious' tower. Although she struggled, it was the spirits of Hayato Fukamiya and Daichi Kamijo who aided her in the fight and eventually Sophia remained victorious. Sophia was among many lives that were affected by a wave of destruction, only to be restored back to normal.

One Year Later

One year later, Sophia was with Reika and Ryoga in collecting the remaining Seiken. Upon witnessing the Wonder Ride Books' powers restored and Yuri's return, Sophia joined up with most of Touma's friends as they reunited with their missing friend once more.

Kamen Rider: Beyond Generations

After the Southern Base was attacked by the Crispers, Sophia called Rintaro back to the Northern Base to solicit Touma's assistance. She also became embarrased after seeing Rintaro naked after he suddenly rushed from the Happy Spa bathhouse. The Sword of Logos joining forces with Fenix's Kamen Riders against the demon Diablo, who emerged to threaten the Earth's future. Sophia would later join in the front lines as Kamen Rider Calibur to assist Demons, Sabela, and Durendal against the Giff Juniors.

Kamen Rider Saber: Trio of Deep Sin

Eight years after saving the world, the multiple swordsmen within the Sword of Logos have begun to disappear, with Sophia catching wind of strange phenomenon. While she was with Yuri discussing the possible causes, they came across Mamiya, who used Amazing Siren's power to erase them. However, she would be restored back to normal after Mamiya reset reality.

Personality

As the mentor of the Northern Base Riders, she has a calm and level-headed personality. She gives the Riders wise advice for their troubles, as seen when she advises Touma not to rush to fight the Megid. She is also not prone to emotional outbursts and does not buckle easily under stressful situations.

While she is the superior to the Kamen Riders under her, she does not hold herself to a higher level above them. She is fine with Ren calling her "Sophia-chan", and she even refers to Daishinji as "Slash" before his return to being a Kamen Rider. She is also fairly trusting and respectful, even entrusting to Mei a book for detecting Megid attacks.

She harbors concern when the members of the Sword of Logos are in danger. Even when she was captured by Reika and came to her senses, her first concern was the condition of her Northern Base Kamen Riders.

Humorously, she does not have any outside experience similar to Rintaro and Yuri. This was shown when she attempted to copy some of Mei's cooking.

• Portal Creation: Sophia is able to create a portal that allows her to exit the Sword of Logos base, although doing so puts her at risk of being invaded by Megids. ^{[Chapter 9: Overlap, the Swordsman's Timbre.]}
• Shield Projection: Sophia can project a wall-like shield to protect herself and others, but when the shield takes damage, she takes damage as well, as proven evident when she received multiple cuts and bruises as Zooous broke through the shield. ^{[Chapter 32: My Thoughts, Crystallized.]}

Abilities

• Expert Swordswoman: As the leader of the Northern Base, Sophia is revealed to be trained as a swordswoman, displaying an adept level of mastery at using the Ankokuken Kurayami during the final battle. As she is usually not active in combat due to her position, she initially struggled while fighting against the Megid, though she was able to pick herself back up after encouragement from the spirits of Hayato Fukamiya and Daichi Kamijo. However, due to the encroachment of the Wonder World taking a toll on her physical existence, she de-powered from her transformation in a very short time. After the restoration of the Wonder World, Sophia continues to wield Kurayami on a semi-regular basis, as support for the other Riders.

Jaaku Dragon (ジャアクドラゴン, Jaaku Doragon) is Calibur's dragon-based primary form accessed by using the Jaaku Dragon Wonder Ride Book in the Jaken Caliburdriver.

In comparison to the previous users, Sophia's Calibur has actually lower stats except for her maximum jump height.

Jaaku Dragon consists of the following parts:

• Calibur Helm Jaaku Dragon (カリバーヘルム ジャアクドラゴン, Karibā Herumu Jaaku Doragon): The helmet.
  • Sword Crown (ソードクラウン, Sōdo Kuraun): The blade on the forehead. It is installed on the top of the head as a proof of being selected by the Jaken. It has the role of adjusting the state of Kamen Rider Calibur and the Jaken, and adjusts the power balance between them and cancels transformation in an emergency. It is also a blade with a sharp edge, and can also be used in battle.
  • Jaaku Scale (ジャアクスケイル, Jaaku Sukeiru): The right mask on the helmet. Inheriting the sensing ability of the God Beast "Jaaku Dragon", the sense of the transformant has been sharpened.
  • Jaaku Dragon Mask (ジャアクドラゴンマスク, Jaaku Doragon Masuku): The center mask. With the power of the Jaaku Dragon Wonder Ride Book, you gain the ability to see in the dark.
  • Silhouette Visor (シルエットバイザー, Shiruetto Baizā): The sealed visor. It allows the user to find light from the bottom of the darkness.
• Sword Robe (ソードローブ, Sōdo Rōbu): The suit granted by the user of the Jaken Ankokuken Kurayami. It is attached at the same time as the awakening of the Jaken, and gives the user the power to fight such as improving sword skills, strengthening physical abilities, and activating special abilities. This form is based on the power of the Jaaku Dragon Wonder Ride Book.
• Jaaku Dragon Bauld (ジャアクドラゴンボールド, Jaaku Doragon Bōrudo, Plays on words “Jaaku Dragon Pauldron”): The right shoulder. It possesses the power of the God Beast "Jaaku Dragon" and brings overwhelming fighting power by supplying the power of darkness at the request of the user.
• Vol Cuirass (ボルキュイラス, Borukyuirasu): Armor for the chest and left shoulder. The armor possesses the aura of the God Beast "Jaaku Dragon". In addition, the alloy is made from the metal used to forge the Seiken is used, making it difficult to destroy with the Seiken.
• Ride Jaaku Arm (ライドジャアクアーム, Raido Jaaku Āmu): The arms. It possesses the power of the God Beast "Jaaku Dragon" and brings the strength to exert destructive power like a demon.
• Jaaku Gaunt (ジャアクガント, Jaaku Ganto, Play on words “Jaaku Gauntlet”): The gauntlets. By cutting the shadow of the target with a sharp claw, it causes great damage to the body. In addition, it brings the power to manipulate dark energy freely, and enables the release of the Jaaku Dragon encased in dark energy.
• Jaaku Mai Scale (ジャアクメイスケイル, Jaaku Meisukeiru, short for “Jaaku Mail Scale”): The black exterior on the suit. The armor is made with a series of hard scales can minimize the attacks received.
• Ride Jaaku Leg (ライドジャアクレッグ, Raido Jaaku Reggu): The legs. It possesses the power of the God Beast "Jaaku Dragon" and brings leg strength that exerts destructive power like a demon.
• Jaaku Sole (ジャアクソール, Jaaku Sōru): The feet. By stepping on the shadow of the object, it binds to the darkness and suppresses its actions. Also, when the Special Move is activated, the destructive power of the kick is greatly increased when an energy silhouette of the Jaaku Dragon is formed.

• Kurayami Hissatsu Geki (月闇必殺撃, Kurayami Hissatsu Geki Lit. "Moon Darkness Finishing Strike"): Calibur scans a Wonder Ride Book against the base of the blade and performs an attack using its power.
  • Shutoku Issen (習得一閃, Shūtoku Issen, Lit. "Learning Single Flash"):
    • Jaaku Dragon Kurayami Hissatsu Geki (ジャアクドラゴン月闇必殺撃, Jaaku Doragon Kurayami Hissatsu Geki): Has two variations.
      • Calibur charges Ankokuken Kurayami with purple energy and launches a purple energy slash.
      • Calibur charges Ankokuken Kurayami with purple energy before perform a wide purple energy slash that surrounds the Rider and strikes any nearby enemies.

Portrayal

Sophia is portrayed by Rina Chinen (知念 里奈, Chinen Rina), who voiced Mary Ann in Star☆Twinkle Pretty Cure and its movie.

As Kamen Rider Calibur, her suit actress is Yuki Miyazawa (宮澤 雪, Miyazawa Yuki), who is also the suit actress for Kamen Rider Sabela.

Notes

• Sophia as Calibur is the first Rider successor in Saber to be female.
• Unlike the other users of Kurayami, Sophia does not seem to suffer from visions and thus was the only known Calibur to not be corrupted.
• Sophia is the second user of Calibur who has not used the Jaou Dragon Wonder Ride Book, the first being Hayato Fukamiya.
