Shunsuke Komatsu (小松 俊介, Komatsu Shunsuke) is the second Sparrow Kaijin (スズメ怪人, Suzume Kaijin) and the son of Sachi Komatsu and Shigeo Komatsu. He is a close friend of Aoi Izumi's and a member of Nobuhiko Akizuki's resistance against the Gorgom Party.

History

Shunsuke had been friends with Aoi since their childhood. When the two grew up, they attended secondary school together. Since the institution was pro - Kaijin, the young boy never faced discrimination there, but he was subjected to verbal abuse from anti - Kaijin protesters, namely Wataru Igaki, anytime he took to the streets. In these instances, Aoi usually had to stand up for her friend.

As Aoi was targeted by the Gorgom Party for her Kingstone necklace, Shunsuke would come to meet Kotaro Minami and Nobuhiko Akizuki. In one particular incident where the Anemone Kaijin murdered Aoi's caretaker, Shunsuke attempted to protect his friend, but ended up being overpowered and having his skull cracked open by the villain. Nobuhiko was able to save the boy in time by feeding him Heat Heaven, and he woke up the next morning with no visible injuries.

Some time later, Shunsuke followed his parents to a pro - Kaijin demonstration, where he witnessed Nobuhiko giving a rousing speech. Inspired by the man's words, Shunsuke and a number of other Kaijins joined his crusade to assault the headquarters of the Gorgom Party. The boy would be taught how to fight, use weapons, and eat Heat Heaven for more power by Nobuhiko during their time together.

On the day of the attack, Shunsuke managed to find Aoi in the main building, who had been abducted earlier, learning of her forced transformation into the Mantis Kaijin. On their way to escape, the two tried to save as many captives as possible, with Shunsuke picking up a gun to kill Aoi's attackers to defend her. Although they never managed to save many, their escape attempt was a success, and the two friends went their separate ways for the time being.

Shunsuke was on his way home alone when he ran into Wataru Igaki again. Due to the cruel taunting and remarks, Shunsuke talked back to the protesters, wanting to stand his ground. This act of defiance resulted in his tragic death at the hands of those extremists, who proceeded to violently beat him up in broad daylight, hanging his corpse on top of a utility pole to make an example of the boy.

Legacy

Shunsuke's lynching by Wataru Igaki's mob was the last straw driving Nobuhiko Akizuki over the edge, resulting in the latter's transformation into Kamen Rider Shadowmoon and desire to subjugate humanity in favour of Kaijins. His murderer, Igaki himself, was the first victim of the new Kamen Rider in retaliation for his untimely demise.

Personality

Initially, Shunsuke was a meek, forebearing and passive youth who endured persecution without so much as a word of complaint. In fact, it was his childhood friend Aoi that had to defend him from bullying and abuse on a regular basis. In spite of this, he was protective of his loved ones, rushing to their aid when trouble arose. This was shown when he transformed into his Kaijin form to save Aoi from the Anemone Kaijin despite knowing full well that the latter was more powerful than himself; or when he notified Kotaro and Nobuhiko of Aoi's abduction, so that the two could save her in time.

After being motivated by Nobuhiko and joining his ranks, Shunsuke gradually grew to be more independent and assertive, being willing to shoot to kill if it meant protecting Aoi from harm. This newfound nerve also led him to stand up to his abusers for the very first time in his life. Ironically, such an act of self-preservation resulted in his horrible murder at the hands of those very same abusers themselves.
