Shigeki Hosokawa (細川 茂樹, Hosokawa Shigeki) is a Japanese actor who played Hitoshi Hidaka, the titular rider of Kamen Rider Hibiki (2005). He also played this role in the movie Kamen Rider Hibiki & The Seven Senki and the PS2 video game, Kamen Rider Hibiki. He once more reprised this role for the video game series, starting with Kamen Rider: Battride War Genesis.
Scandal[]
In 2016, Shigeki Hosokawa's contract period of the affiliated office "Samday" was unilaterally canceled, with Hosokawa applying to the Tokyo District Court in January 2017 to protest this sudden cancellation. The next month, a provisional disposition was decided to continue Hosokawa's contract, with it formally ending in May 2017. During and after this time period, the Japanese media would portray Hosokawa in an unpleasant manner, accusing his sudden contract termination as the result of him committing acts of "harassment". [1]
In response to these broadcast, Hosokawa submitted a petition to the BPO in January 2018, stating that "there was a malicious aim to infringe on my honor and credibility." Ultimately, the Tokyo District Court accepted Hosokawa's claim, proving his innocence.[2] However, despite having been a victim of misinformation, Hosokawa's career as an actor was severely affected by this incident, with his reprisal of Hitoshi Hidaka/Kamen Rider Hibiki being a difficult issue altogether.
Notes[]
- At the age of 33 when Kamen Rider Hibiki was airing, Shigeki Hosokawa is the oldest actor to have originally portrayed a leading rider. He is also the first actor to have started portraying a lead character role in their 30s within the Kamen Rider franchise.
