The Shibuya Meteor Strike (渋谷隕石, Shibuya Inseki) was a major event in Kamen Rider Kabuto, which occurred on October 19, 1999. It is the catalyst of the events that brought the Worms to Earth.
Timelines[]
On October 19, 1999, a meteor struck the Earth, destroyed the Shibuya area in Tokyo and brought the Worms. The Shibuya area was gated off from the rest of Japan, leaving it abandoned as the Worms spread and infiltrated Japan.
The meteorite that hit Earth in the alternate timeline in Kamen Rider Kabuto: God Speed Love was much larger and the resulting impact dried up most of Earth's oceans, killing thousands. It also brought a greater number of Worms, who attacked and overran humanity despite ZECT's best efforts to hold them back. As part of their plan to encompass the Earth with more of their kind, the Worm used ZECT space technology to bring forth a second meteor to collide with Earth to wipe the remnants of humanity out.
Kamen Rider Kabuto in his Hyper Form pushed this meteor away from Earth and then used his Hyper Clock Up time travel abilities to send it colliding into the first meteor in the past. This caused the original meteor to break up and its surviving meteorite debris that didn't burn up in Earth's atmosphere to be the same size as the meteor of the TV series timeline, saving humanity from having its oceans destroyed and striking only Shibuya like it was supposed to. To the surprise and confusion of Arata Kagami, Shibuya in 2019 is restored, while normal people like Sougo Tokiwa has never heard of the impact at all. [2006: Next Level Kabuto]
