Sabimaru Tsuruhara (鶴原 錆丸, Tsuruhara Sabimaru) is a member of the Alchemist Academy. He was later forced by the Three Dark Sisters to transform into the first Kamen Rider Dread (仮面ライダードレッド, Kamen Raidā Doreddo).
History
Sabimaru was born in 2003[1], where he grew up with his elder brother Kenichi Tsuruhara in Kongo Laboratory and enjoy their time designing new Chemies through drawings. When they were still a child, the Tsuruhara brothers has already become an official alchemist and obtained their own Alchemist Ring, it was then they accidentally created Kamedoon based on the drawing they design, when Sabimaru makes the wrong procedure to transmute the Chemy which causes a small explosion, though the transmutation was success. Kenichi who does not realized himself was part of the reason for the successful transmutation of the Chemy, started to grow fonds towards AI over the Chemies, Sabimaru was also affected by his brother's fond towards AI but still loves Chemies as before, especially towards UFO-X, which was his favourite Chemy. Later, Sabimaru was gifted an Isaac from Kenichi.
At some point, Sabimaru joined the Alchemist Academy as he want to understand more about the Chemies, though he was still being shy in front of others and relies on Isaac for communication. When he mets Houtaro after the latter joins the academy, though he still cannot talks by his own, he tries to help Houtaro to gather Chemy by action after finding the two has the same dreams alike.
After the death of Shiori Harima, who was revealed to be a spy, Sabimaru was later selected by the Three Dark Sisters to become Kamen Rider Dread as a guinea pig.
Personality
Sabimaru is very shy and unable to speak clearly in a conversation, often mumbling or speaking in a low almost whisper tone voice. Because of this, Sabimaru often relies on Isaac to communicate with his fellow students due to his social anxiety. He tends to panic if Isaac is offline due to needing a battery charge, as this hinders his communication between his classmates and is an inconvenience when an emergency occurs.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Alchemy: Sabimaru's alchemy is more utility focused, which he usually performs it to transmute and create various items or gadgets that can help the team. Such examples include the Sabi Riser and the Alchemis Charger.
Abilities
- Gifted Intellect: Sabimaru is the tech-man of the academy and is considered the "smart one". He is also an expert when it comes to Chemies, understanding their characteristics which is later utilized while he is under the Three Dark Sisters' control to bring out the full potential of Replichemies as Dread.
Weaknesses
- Dreadriver: As the Driver is the crystallization of human malice, Atropos manipulates him with almost absolute control, depriving Sabimaru of his free will, as shown when Sabimaru’s arm twisted itself so he can't interfere with the transformation. Even so, his thoughts continued transmitting through Isaac. Furthermore, continuous usage of the Dreadriver also siphons Sabimaru’s lifeforce, with Lachesis noted that his second transformation will kill him in less than ten minutes.

Type Zero (零式, Zeroshiki) is Kamen Rider Dread's default form accessed by using the Repli-Steamliner Replichemy Card in the Dreadriver.
As the antithesis of Gotchard, Dread sacrifices his Replichemies to use their powers. He has higher punching power, kicking power, and running speed, but a lower jump height. In addition, he is easily able to single-handedly defeat Valvarad. As Sabimaru has an understanding of the Chemies' characteristics, his knowledge is accumulated into a collective intelligence to bring out the Replichemies' full potential. However, the Dreadriver drains from its wearer's lifeforce when they transform into Dread.
Dread consists of the following parts:
- Dread Mask (ドレッドマスク, Doreddo Masuku): The helmet.
- Wisdom Lamp (ウィズダムランプ, Wizudamu Ranpu): The beacon of wisdom. By accumulating the knowledge possessed by the user and the Replichemy and turning it into a collective intelligence, its intelligence increases with each transformation and transmutation.
- Maat Signal (マアトシグナル, Maato Shigunaru): The tuner device. It maximizes the destructive power by adjusting the transmutation state from time to time.
- Dread Horus (ドレッドホルス, Doreddo Horusu): The compound eyes. The application of various Replichemy powers to human vision changes its characteristics in various ways. Different abilities can be used simultaneously on the left and right side.
- Irogane Skull (イロガネスカル, Irogane Sukaru): The skull. The extremely strong skeleton forged from Repli-Steamliner has an ultra-pressure-resistant structure, and will not be shaken by any attack.
- Hecate Blast (ヘカテブラースト, Hekate Burāsuto): The conversion furnace. Burning like a blast furnace inside the body, it produces tremendous destructive power by mixing and burning the power of Replichemies and all things as alchemical materials.
- Rider Golem (ライダゴレム, Raida Goremu): The body. It has an extremely strong skeleton and ultra-pressure-resistant structure due to the combination of the human body and the Replichemy Repli-Steamliner. It embodies the potential for all kinds of destruction by overlapping the power of many more Chemies.
- Dante Actuator (ダンテアクチュエーター, Dante Akuchuētā): The arms. The "Dante Steam Compression", which increases arm strength by filling with ultra-high-pressure steam, delivers an ultra-high-pressure punch with extraordinary grip strength and destructive energy.
- Draw Holder (ドローホルダー, Dorō Horudā): The cardholder. It can store up to 20 Replichemy cards.
- Dante Departure (ダンテデパーチャー, Dante Depāchā): The legs. The "Dante Steam Compression", which increases leg strength by filling with ultra-high-pressure steam, delivers an ultra-high-pressure kick with overwhelming driving force and destructive energy.
This form has the following finishers:
- Dreadriver finisher:
- Dread Breaking (ドレッドブレイキング, Doreddo Bureikingu): Dread concentrates lavas from Hecate Blast, before transferring the lava to the into his leg manifesting spikes on it, and delivers a roundhouse kick that launches the enemy away.
- Blood Sacrifice (ブラッドサクリファイス, Buraddo Sakurifaisu): After Dread scans four or more Replichemy cards in the Vevel Setter on the top of the Driver, and inserts the Replichemy Card into the Khonsu Stiller slot before pulling the Nekhbetvoke Lever, he can performs an attack that incorporates the Chemy's unique ability or transmute weapons.
- Repli-Gorillasensei: Dread creates a giant fist out of dirt from the ground behind him while raising his arm up before swinging his fist down, bringing down the giant fist and crushes the enemy with it.
- Blood Rain (ブラッドレイン, Buraddo Rein): When Dread three cards in the Vevel Setter, and inserts the Replichemy Card into the Khonsu Stiller slot before pulling the Nekhbetvoke Lever, he can performs an attack that incorporates the Chemy's unique ability or transmute weapons.
- Repli-Gekiocopter: Dread summons four missiles-shaped energy projections that follow his enemy and could explode upon impact.
Dread performs Drain (ドレイン, Dorein) by scanning Replichemy Cards in the Vevel Setter on the top of the Driver, and inserting them into the Khonsu Stiller slot. Depending on the Replichemy card scanned, he can perform an attack that incorporates the Replichemy's unique ability or transmute weapons based on the scanned Replichemy.
- Repli-Pikahotaru: Allows Dread to release light from the Hecate Blast, temporarily blinding the enemy.
- Repli-Bulletbaang: Transmutes the Bloody BB (ブラッディーBB, Buraddī BB) from Dread's body.
- Repli-Odorippa: Gives Dread dancer-like movement, increasing his flexibility to dodge enemy attacks.
