This article is about a set of collectible devices in Kamen Rider Ex-Aid. |
The Rider Gashats (ライダーガシャット, Raidā Gashatto) are transformation devices similar to video game cartridges used by the Riders in Kamen Rider Ex-Aid.
Overview[]
The Rider Gashats were designed and created by Genm Corp. CEO Kuroto Dan for use in the Gamer Driver, with the purpose of combating the Bugsters. They were initially created in a line of 10 Gashats based on 10 Genm Corp. video games, and were distributed to suitable doctors to be used to transform into Kamen Riders who would directly combat the dangerous manifestations of the Bugster Virus. The first of these included Taiga Hanaya, Kamen Rider Snipe, and Hiiro Kagami, Kamen Rider Brave.
Each Bugster originates from one of the Proto Gashats (プロトガシャット, Puroto Gashatto), the original prototypes of the 10 Gashats. As such, victims of the Bugster Virus who die of their infection are stored as data inside their Bugsters' respective Proto Gashats. As evidenced by the case of Kiriya Kujo, Riders who Game Over and die are stored in the Proto version of their primary transformation Gashat.
Though Kuroto Dan's exact conception of the original Proto Gashats is unclear, it is known that the Bugsters, Gashats, and Riders were all manipulated by him for the purpose of creating the "ultimate game", a plan he conceived upon the initial genesis of the Bugster Virus during Y2K.
Functionality[]
Basically, Rider Gashats are inserted into the Gamer Driver by a person who is vaccinated for the Bugster Virus to transform into a Level 1 Kamen Rider, the form used to battle a Bugster Union. Once the Bugster Union is defeated, Level 2 is accessed by pulling the Gamer Driver's lever. A second Rider Gashat can be inserted into the Gamer Driver's second slot to access higher level forms, such as Level 3, Level 4, or Level 5, depending on the Gashat. Gashats can also be inserted in the Driver's Kimewaza Slot Holder to trigger a Critical Strike finisher, or in a Gashacon Weapon to trigger a Critical Finish finisher. Activating a Gashat will summon a Game Area with Energy Item containers based on the Gashat's game in a wave of digitization. This and the Gamer Driver's Stage Select option, which can literally teleport game participants, even those not currently present, are likely what Ayumu was sensing when he identified Rider Gashats as devices "with the power to change the world".
Collabos Bugsters are able to utilize Level 3 Rider Gashats to gain armor, powers and abilities based on the Gashat's game. The exact origin and purpose of these Bugsters is unknown.
It has been shown that most, if not all, Rider Gashats contain a sample amount of the Bugster Virus in their hardware; the dual-slot Gashat that would become Mighty Brothers XX contained lethal amounts of the virus, the incompatible Nico Saiba activating the Bang Bang Shooting Gashat awakened the dormant virus inside of her, and the transformation of the Ride-Players by activating the Kamen Rider Chronicle Gashats infected them all with game illness.
The Proto Gashats can be used in the same way as their later iterations to access gray (or black and purple, in the case of Genm) prototype Rider forms, as demonstrated by Proto Mighty Action X, Proto Shakariki Sports, and Proto Jet Combat, as well as a variety of forms seen in Kamen Rider Battle: Ganbarizing. Additionally, if a Bugster comes into possession of their Proto Gashat of origin, they can use it to gain great power. Graphite demonstrates this ability by activating the Proto Drago Knight Hunter Z Gashat and stabbing it into his body, transforming him into Dark Graphite. While possessing unlimited power, the Proto Gashats are said to be dangerous to use, as they can have harmful side effects to a person after prolonged exposure. According to Kuroto and Parado, usage of the Proto Gashats causes the user to lose their morals and damage their body with prolonged usage. Taiga suffers from unknown damage from Zero Day, causing his hair to grey while Kuroto slowly loses his sanity. [Men, Fly High!] A person who has not undergone the Gamer Driver compatibility surgery may even experience hemoptysis. [Trigger of Destiny]
However, unlike humans, when Bugsters use Proto Gashats, they don't seem to cause side effects to their bodies. This is shown when Kiriya, revived as Lazer Turbo, used Proto Shakariki Sports and Proto Jet Combat, or when Kuroto, revived as a Bugster and used the origin version of Proto Mighty Action X for the rest of the series, yet no side effects were caused.
According to Kuroto after his sudden revival, those who had been succumbed and vanished by the virus had been stored into the Proto Gashats as "save data". The Ministry of Health had been monitoring the Proto Gashats after they raided Kuroto's hideout, but was later reportedly stolen and was under the possession of Masamune for some time. After Kiriya Kujo was revived as Masamune's left-hand man, he gained the latter's trust, before stealing back the Proto Gashats for CR.
Later on, after Masamune used Reset to reset time, the Proto Gashats (besides the ones Kiriya used for his combo forms) were returned back to him once more. However, after his demise, the Proto Gashats were back in CR's possession, with Emu promising that one day in the future, their technology for fighting the Game Disease will be advanced enough to retrieve the data of the lost ones that succumbed to said disease. [Endless Game]
The Gashatrophies (ガシャットロフィー , Gashattorofī) are variants of the Gashats, which can be won by players of Kamen Rider Chronicle for beating a Bugster.

- Hyper Docking Joint (ハイパードッキングジョイント, Haipā Dokkingu Jointo) - Connects the Muteki Gashat onto the God/Maximum Mighty X Gashat. Also, when doing so, particles generated by the Muteki Gashat flows into the Maximum Gamer via Hyper Docking Joint and fixes the golden reinforcement armor inside. This causes the shooting star-like visual effects during transition from Maximum to Muteki Gamer.
- Hyper Guard Case (ハイパーガードケース, Haipā Gādo Kēsu) - The golden exterior casing of the Gashat to protect the inner workings. Made by using lightweight, high-strength, easy-to-form-and-process materials and reinforced by a special coating agent to increase water, heat, and shock resistance.

- High Flash Generator (ハイフラッシュジェネレータ, Hai Furasshu Jenerēta) - The display screen showing Muteki Gamer's form icon. Also acts as an apparatus to send golden particles to the whole body of the Rider via Gamer Driver, strengthening combat ability. Additionally, it also manages the 10 seconds of invincibility when plugged directly onto the Gamer Driver, acting as a timer, cancelling the Muteki Mode before the golden particles will cause the body to self-destruct due to particle overflow. Also, the front panel has a function of projecting command menus and effects during attacks and finishers.

Behind The Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
The voice of most of the Rider Gashats was provided by Hironobu Kageyama (影山 ヒロノブ, Kageyama Hironobu), barring a few unique exceptions:
- The Toki Meki Crisis Gashat, Toki Meki Bridal Gashat and toy-exclusive Poppy version of the DoReMiFa Beat Gashat were voiced by Ruka Matsuda (松田 るか, Matsuda Ruka), who portrays Poppy Pipopapo in the series.
- The Doctor Mighty XX Gashat was co-voiced by Hayato Onozuka (小野塚 勇人, Onozuka Hayato) (who portrays Kiriya Kujo) and Tetsuya Iwanaga (岩永 徹也, Iwanaga Tetsuya) (who portrays Kuroto Dan).
- The Kamen Rider Chronicle and Mighty Creator VRX Gashats were voiced by Junichi Suwabe (諏訪部 順一, Suwabe Jun'ichi), who was also the narrator for the series and the voice actor of Lovelica Bugster.[10]
- The Kamen Rider Build Gashat is voiced by KORBY, who also voices the Build Driver in Kamen Rider Build.
Notes[]
- "Gashat" is the combination of the onomatopoeia sound in Japanese, "Gasha", used for a video game cartridge being entered into a console, and "cassette".
- Each of the Rider Gashats and the forms they produce are based on video game genres or types of games:
- Mighty Action X is a 2D Side-scrolling Platformer.
- Taddle Quest is a Role-playing video game.
- Bang Bang Shooting is a Shooter game.
- Bakusou Bike is a Motorcycle Racing game.
- Gekitotsu Robots is a 1v1 Brawler game where you build robots and fight with them, referencing the Nintendo game Gekitō! Custom Robo.
- DoReMiFa Beat is a Rhythm game.
- Jet Combat is a Shoot 'em up.
- Giri Giri Chambara is a side-scrolling Beat 'em up / Hack-and-slash game.
- Shakariki Sports is a Sports game.
- Drago Knight Hunter Z is a 4-player co-op Monster Hunting game.
- Dangerous Zombie is a Survival horror game.
- Mighty Brothers XX is a 2-player platformer game referencing the Nintendo game Super Mario Bros .
- Perfect Puzzle is a Puzzle video game.
- Knock Out Fighter is a Fighting game.
- Ju Ju Burger is a Cooking video game referencing the arcade game BurgerTime.
- Night of Safari is a big game hunting simulation game similar to Cabela's African Safari.
- Bang Bang Tank is a Tank combat game.
- Taddle Fantasy is a Simulation role-playing game where the player takes on the role of a villain trying to take over the world with dark magic and minions, possibly a nod to the Overlord game series or Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord.
- Bang Bang Simulations is a Naval simulation game.
- Kamen Rider Chronicle is a sandbox Massively multiplayer online game / Augmented reality game.
- Tokimeki Crisis is a Dating Sim game.
- Maximum Mighty X is a Mecha simulation game, though its reprogramming abilities also reference homebrew video games.
- Hyper Muteki is a based on a Cheat cartridge similar to Game Genie.
- Taddle Legacy is a Role-playing video game where you play as a morally gray character, straddling the line between villain and hero.
- Doctor Mighty XX is a Surgeon simulation game.
- Hurricane Ninja is based on ninja themed games such as Ninja Gaiden
- Mighty Creator VRX is a virtual reality game based on the PlayStation VR with emergent and sandbox gameplay mechanics.
- Knock Out Fighter 2 references video game sequels and 2 player arcade fighting games.
- Genm Musou is a Musou game.
- Mighty Novel X references visual novels.
- Each Rider or Gamer is based on its Gashat's cover art.
- The early design for the Drago Knight Hunter Z Gashat has more detail on the dragon head portion when compared with the final version. The label for the Gashat was also changed.
- Mighty Action X is the only game people can download and play it after they bought All Kamen Rider: Rider Revolution.
- In the toyline, the Rider Gashat sounds can be played without the use of the DX Gamer Driver, similar to the Gaia Memories with the DX Double and Lost Drivers, and also the Lockseeds with the DX Sengoku and Genesis Drivers.[11]
- All the "game stickers" of the Gashats have the numbers '56569-4545-001132-321569-45-0012-321' and '50231887-45046-54609' stylized to look like Game Serial Numbers. The numbers have no known meaning.
- In the toyline, Proto Gashats can be used for Critical Strikes, but have no Critical Finish announcements, instead having a generic explosion sound effect in its place.
- Collecting all 10 Gashats was said to do something within the show's early description, but nothing of this nature ever occurred.
- This could be simply just a lie by Kuroto just so he could collect data on all 10 Gashats to fulfill his plan of creating the "ultimate game", as he revealed later on when he showed his true identity as Genm to the other Riders.
- Alternatively, this could have been foreshadowing the power and ability to become Kamen Rider Cronus, which requires one to be infected with and develop antibodies against the ten bugster strains relating to the first 10 Gashats, presumably through collecting and using them, as was implied when Taiga Hanaya became the second Cronus.
