Renn Kiriyama (桐山 漣, Kiriyama Ren) is a Japanese actor who portrayed Shotaro Hidari/left side of Kamen Rider Double in Kamen Rider W.

Renn made an appearance at the first ever Japan World HeroesIcon-crosswiki convention in Pasadena, CA, USA on August 26-29 in 2017. This made him the first ever Heisei Rider to attend an American Tokusatsu convention.

Biography[]

As a teenager, Kirayama had aspired to be a musician as he played bass in a band. However at the age of 21, he decided to pursue acting instead. He began to attend actor training school while working three different part-time jobs to pay for lessons.

He landed his first role in 2006 in the Prince of Tennis musicals.

After Kamen Rider W, Kiriyama landed the lead role of Shinichi Moriyama in the drama Code M: Codename Mirage. His character is left-handed, a reference to his previous role as Shotaro, who was the left-hand side of Double.

Personal Life[]

  • Kiriyama was a fan of Kamen Rider Black as a child, and became overjoyed that Kamen Rider Joker was entirely black, incorporating an element of his favorite rider.[1] This would later inspire the fight between Joker, Black, and Black RX in Kamen Rider Taisen.
  • Kiriyama had previously auditioned yearly for Kamen Rider since Kamen Rider Kabuto before failing them. When he was ultimately cast as Shotaro, he cried tears of joy.
  • Kiriyama's favorite form of Double is Trigger.
  • In a bonus feature for Kamen Rider W Forever: A to Z/The Gaia Memories of Fate, Kiriyama had expressed an interest in a Joker installment of Kamen Rider W Returns.
