Renn Kiriyama (桐山 漣 Kiriyama Ren) is a Japanese actor who is best known for his role asShotaro Hidari, the male lead and half of the eponymous hero of the television series Kamen Rider W, alongside Masaki Suda as Philip. Since his series' end, he continued to reprise the role in Movie War Mega Max, Super Hero Taisen Z's net movie, and Heisei Rider vs. Showa Rider: Kamen Rider Taisen feat. Super Sentai.

He also reprised his role in the video gamea Super Climax Heroes[1], and Kamen Rider: Battride War.[2]

Renn made an appearance at the first ever Japan World HeroesIcon-crosswiki convention in Pasadena, CA, USA on August 26-29 in 2017. This made him the first ever Heisei Rider to attend an American Tokusatsu convention.

Biography

While Kirayama was attending actor training school, he was also doing three different part-time jobs to pay for lessons.

He landed his first role in 2006 in the Prince of Tennis musicals.

After Kamen Rider W, Kiriyama landed the lead role of Shinichi Moriyama in the drama Code M: Codename Mirage. His character is left-handed, a reference to his previous role as Shotaro, who was the left-hand side of Double.

Personal Life

  • When Kirayama was a child, he enjoyed watching Kamen Rider Black, which he attributed as his favorite series and wanted to become one. When he was cast as Shotaro, who would later become the sole Kamen Rider Joker, Kirayama was overjoyed as Joker was entirely black, incorporating an element of his favorite rider. [4] This would later inspire the fight between Joker, Black, and Black RX in Kamen Rider Taisen.
  • Kiriyama had previously auditioned for the roles of Souji Tendou and Tsukasa Kadoya, later failing them before landing the role of Shotaro.
  • Kiriyama's favorite form of Double is Trigger.
