Parado (パラド ) is a Bugster born from Emu Hojo who transforms into Kamen Rider Para-DX (仮面ライダーパラドクス, Kamen Raidā Paradokusu, lit. Paradox).
History[]
Background[]
The first individual Bugster to be born, Parado's genesis lay in Mighty Action C, a demo game created by the teenage Kuroto Dan. The Bugster Virus, which had been found by Kuroto on his laptop in early 2000, was planted on the game disc by Kuroto in an act of spite against eight year old Emu Hojo, whose fan designs he had sent in angered Kuroto, who recognized the boy's vision as rivaling his own. The young Emu was unknowingly infected with the Bugster Virus and through his subconscious wish for a friend to play games with, Parado had manifested within him.
Parado's conception inside Emu influenced him into becoming the "Genius Gamer M". Under Parado's influence, Emu strayed from his original goal of becoming a doctor and become a professional gamer. After a participating in tournament against Genius Gamer N, Emu was abducted by the Next Genome Institute, who separated Parado from his body, while killing the doctors who've operated on Emu. Fragments of Parado's Bugster Virus still remained inside Emu and granted him the power to transform into Kamen Rider Ex-Aid.
Unleashing the Plague[]
Parado is first seen playing a portable version of Mighty Action X, and is informed by Graphite of a new Bugster infection by Graphite. With Graphite proclaiming that they would soon be joined by an influx of comrades, Parado voiced to him his excitement at the prospect of their "game field" expanding. While he and Graphite continue spread the Bugster Virus, the pair would also be assisted by Kamen Rider Genm to gather data on the Doctor Riders.
When Kuroto Dan was nearly exposed as the "Black Ex-Aid" by Lazer Chambara Bike Gamer Level 3, Parado manages to intervene by creating a protective barrier to allow Kuroto to escape. Obscured by the explosion, he puts on Kuroto's Gamer Driver to give the impression that he is Black Ex-Aid to fool Emu Hojo and Hiiro Kagami, causing them to lose their trust in Kiriya Kujo.
Parado warned Kuroto that prologued use with the Proto Gashats could damage his body. Later on, Parado discovered that Graphite had taken the Proto Drago Knight Hunter Z Gashat, according to Kuroto's plans to give the Doctor Riders their most challenging fight. While Graphite proved to be a formidable foe, the Kamen Riders manage to distribute the Drago Knight Hunter Z's power and joining forces to defeat the Bugster. Parado recovers the Proto Drago Knight Hunter Z Gashat left behind and Kuroto was able to complete tests and data recording, as they proceed onto the next stage.
Kamen Rider Heisei Generations: Dr. Pac-Man vs. Ex-Aid & Ghost with Legend Riders[]
During the events of the Dr. Pac-Man crisis, Parado was absent throughout the duration of the events. However, he leaves a major impact with the four members of the Next Genome Institute as they originally disappeared as a result of Parado's emergence during their surgery on Emu Hojo. After Kuroto Dan retrieved the Proto-Gashats and Gashacon Bugvisor in his possession, Parado arrived in his office look at the Pac Adventure Gashat that Kuroto had just completed. From the data of the Hatena Bugster, Kuroto was able to create a new puzzle game, Perfect Puzzle.
Kamen Rider Ex-Aid "Tricks": Kamen Rider Genm[]
Following the defeat of Michihiko Zaizen, Parado would adopt the alias of "Dr. Pac-Man" himself. He arrived to save Emu from the copies of Kamen Riders Double, OOO and Fourze whom Kamen Rider Genm summoned with the Ganbarizing Gashat, bringing with him the Pac Adventure, Famista and Xevious Legend Game Gashats.
Distracting the Riders with his Gashacon Bugvisor, "Dr. Pac-Man" took Emu away before being confronted by Hiiro Kagami and Taiga Hanaya, both intent on defeating him again while Emu started to trust him. With Genm and his Riders catching up with them, "Dr. Pac-Man" handed a Gashat to each of the three doctor Riders, allowing them to face Genm's Legend Riders, before taking his leave with Genm in pursuit. Ultimately, "Dr. Pac-Man" was caught by Genm who took his helmet off, recognizing his true identity as he presented a fourth Gashat, Taiko no Tatsujin.
He arrives to give Emu the Taiko no Tatsujin Gashat, only to steal it again with other Gashats that he gave. Later appearing in Kuroto's hideout, he takes off his mask and reveals himself to the viewers.
The Dark Christmas[]
Waiting at Kuroto's hideout after he revealed himself to the Doctor Riders, Parado was amused learning he went as far to use the data of his own death to complete his new Gashat, Dangerous Zombie, remarking how terrifying can be. Looking upon the completed Gashat, Parado voiced his enthusiasm at the start of a new game. He continues to collect the data of the Bugsters on Kuroto's behalf as he prepares to work on his ultimate project, Kamen Rider Chronicle.
Becoming Kamen Rider Para-DX[]
Parado receives a new blank Gashat by Kuroto, but needs more data to complete it. Upon learning that the Gashat has lethal doses of the Bugster virus, Parado gives Emu Hojo the Gashat, encouraging him to change his fate with it. He observes Emu's attempt to use the Gashat nearby and while activating it nearly destroyed him, the Gashat transforms into Mighty Brothers XX. This surprised Genm, while Parado felt fascinated by this.
- "Kamen Rider Para-DX Level 50. Let me show you my game. Let's play!"
- ―Para-DX's proclamation before his first battle[src]
Eventually, he would later receive the Gashat Gear Dual created by Kuroto. Parado intruded Ex-Aid's battle with Brave and Snipe and transforms into Kamen Rider Para-DX. He proceeded to defeat all three of them using both of his forms, due to him being at Level 50. While Para-DX continues to aid Genm in collecting Bugster data and the Rider Gashats, his primary objective is to "play" with Ex-Aid more.
However, Parado's partnership with Kuroto would falter after killing Burgermon and Motors out of malice. Kamen Rider Para-DX would defeat Genm in a humiliating manner after Kuroto claimed that Bugsters were nothing but pawns in his master plan. Enraged by this defiance, Kuroto loudly revealed Emu's true nature as Patient Zero of the Bugster Virus, hoping to make Emu disappear before Parado could fight Emu. While Parado lifts him by his jacket, he promptly lets go of Kuroto and vanished elsewhere, not returning until Emu's virus subsided and personality restored to normal.
Despite their previous encounter, Parado would continue to see Kuroto again to check up on progress with Kamen Rider Chronicle, while fighting Kamen Riders Brave and Snipe as the pair have advanced to Level 50, matching Para-DX in evenly terms. After Ex-Aid had advanced to Level 99 with Maximum Mighty X, Parado tries to convince Emu to take Kuroto's life. While Emu opted to spare him by stripping him of his powers, Parado took matters to his own hands by killing Kuroto with a lethal dose of Dangerous Zombie's data, while taking over Kamen Rider Chronicle from now on.
Kamen Rider Chronicle[]
Parado would eventually complie the Bugster data contained in the Gashacon Bugvisor to revive all of them, including Graphite. After the Loverica Bugster infiltrated Genm Corp. and brainwashed Poppy Pipopapo, Parado was able to complete Kamen Rider Chronicle. He welcomed Emu to the ultimate game and transformed into Para-DX to kill any Ride-Player that came his way. He revealed to Emu his hatred towards humanity, and Kamen Rider Chronicle was simply a means to wipe out humankind. While Ex-Aid eventually restored Poppy back to normal, Parado asserted that she is an ally of the Bugsters but was disappointed after Emu promised to play DoReMiFa Beat with her.
- "I'll change the Bugsters' fate!"
- ―Para-DX emulates Ex-Aid during their face-off.[src]
Parado took matters into his own hands by possessing Emu's body. After separating, he attempts to use the Gamer Driver, but couldn't as the belt was invented for human use. After dragging Emu outside, Parado reveals his true origins as Emu's Bugster. He transforms into Mighty Brothers XX, assuming Ex-Aid Level XX R. Parado also revealed how he saved Emu's life from the moment his infection flared up. While Emu was motivated to fight Parado, his reprogramming attack allowed Parado able to use the Gamer Driver and evolve into Para-DX Level 99. While Parado continued to control Emu, this was stopped upon the surprise return of Kamen Rider Genm, using the power of Level 0 to negate Parado's abilities.
As Parado rallied the high-tier Bugsters against the Kamen Riders, both sides find themselves facing against Kuroto's father Masamune Dan who reveals himself to be the true mastermind of Rider Chronicle and transforms into Kamen Rider Cronus. Because of his exploitation in the use of Pause, Cronus showcased his ability to permamently kill Bugsters as Lovelica and Salty were among of his victims. This cause Parado began to fear the prospect that Bugsters are not as immortal as they believe to be.
To counteract Cronus, Emu would evolve into Hyper Muteki, but had to reinfect himself with Parado's virus to access the Gashat. This also painted a target onto Parado's back as Masamune became determined to eliminate Parado to remove Emu's transformation. Although Emu would destroy Parado in a fateful battle, he would later be revived so Parado could realize the true importance of life. Parado, with a newfound resolve, finally joins forces with Emu. While he failed to convince Graphite to join with him, his friend's sacrifice allowed the Kamen Riders advanced to the final stage of Rider Chronicle, preparing to confront the last boss Gamedeus.
The Gamedeus Pandemic[]
With Gamedeus and his Bugster Virus pandemic spreading rapidly, Ex-Aid and Para-DX fought against him while the other doctors stayed behind to take care of the patients. Although the Doctor Mighty XX Gashat developed by Kiriya and Kuroto managed to weaken him, Masamune barged in to absorbed the Bugster into his own body at the last minute. This resulted in the fusion known as Gamedeus Cronus. Despite having a place with CR, Parado still felt guilty and blamed himself for causing Kamen Rider Chronicle in the first place.
After Poppy sacrificed herself to spread the Gamedeus vaccine, Parado decided to joining the battle between Super Gamedeus and the Level 1 Kamen Riders. Para-DX used the Doctor Mighty XX Gashat to hold Super Gamedeus off until Emu and the other Riders separated Masamune. After it was just Parado and Gamedeus, the two Bugsters would vanish as Parado hoped that this act would make up for even a little of what he had done before, thanking Emu for the short ride. Emu ran over to him as his Bugster faded away, with the last speck of him disappearing in Emu's hand.
As all hope seemed lost, Emu miraculously regained his infection, allowing him and the remaining Riders defeated Cronus once and for all. Back at CR, Kuroto Dan, having managed to restore Poppy from a fragment she had left in his hand, revealed to Emu that he reinfected himself with Parado's virus from the spec in his hand. Sure enough, Parado materialized from within Emu immediately after, surprised and happy to be alive.
Kamen Rider Ex-Aid: True Ending[]
Set after the Kamen Riders defeated Kamen Rider Cronus, a new outbreak of the Bugster virus occurs one rainy day as Kamen Rider Fuma and his Ninja Players attack the city. While Kuroto Dan tries to protect Emu as he uses power of Mighty Creator VRX to free the people trapped inside the Game World, Parado accompanies Kuroto while he disguises himself as Emu to draw the Ninja Gamers away from him. He later fights alongside Genm as Para-DX.
While confronting Kagenari Nagumo about his actions, the true threat arises when Johnny Makishima reveals himself as the "true last boss" and transforms into Gamedeus Machina. Parado and Kuroto were absorbed into Gamedeus Machina's body for the duration of his activities. After being expelled, Ex-Aid Muteki Gamer manages to vanquish Gamedeus Machina, and peace has finally returned.
One year later, Parado and Emu as the Double Action Gamers Level XX against a group of Bugsters. Suddenly, they encounter Kamen Rider Build defeating the Bugster Viruses assuming the GorillaMond Form. With Build declaring he's going to take Ex-Aid's powers, Parado rushed in to protect his friend, but Build manages to get past him and takes away Emu's powers using a Fullbottle. As the two stood confused over what had happened, Build takes his leave.
Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Riders[]
After Kamen Rider Build robbed Emu of his ability to transform into Ex-Aid, Parado follows him to the portal to his reality to get Emu's powers back but ended up stuck in Build's world for over two years. After confronting Sento Kiryu, he claims to have no recollection of the events. When Soichi Isurugi arrived to mediate the situation, Parado took the Doctor and Game Fullbottles and was able to hear Emu's voice. While Parado thought it has been two years since he last saw Emu, it was a whole week in his original world due to the different time flows.
Parado would continue to accompany Sento Kiryu as they solve the mystery of the Enigma's creator, Kaisei Mogami. Upon further investigation of Mogami, Parado and Sento would learn he was a researcher studying parallel worlds and the Bugster Virus. He also learned that Takumi Katsuragi worked very close to him and operated in Ex-Aid's world as Build, seeking to collect Ex-Aid's powers to stop Mogami's nefarious agenda.
Parado would remain in contact with Emu Hojo and Ryuga Banjo in Ex-Aid's world, while he and Sento confront Mogami as they learn of his intentions of smashing their two Earths with his alternate doppelgänger, Right Kaiser. As the two Earths were vast approaching, Parado rode with Sento down towards Ex-Aid's worlds and reunites with Emu. Parado merges with Emu once again in order to transform into Ex-Aid. After the final battle as well Build and Cross-Z's departure to their homeworld, Emu and Parado are joined by their friends of the CR.
Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Trilogy: Another Ending[]
Two years after the Enigma crisis, Parado lies down bored on the Seito University Hospital rooftop having nothing to do and is scolded by Asuna Kirino for slacking off. He is approached by Saiko Yaotome to help assist her in the Bugster regenerative medicine but is suddenly absorbed into a Bugvisor in her possession. Parado is discovered Saiko has been working with Kuroto Dan and had revived Masamune Dan. They were able to separate a Bugster from Masamune's body, creating a dark doppelgänger of Parado that can transform into Kamen Rider Another Para-DX. Parado join forces with Poppy Pipopapo to combat Another Para-DX and a Genomes duplicate created by Saiko. After a victory by the Bugster Riders, Kuroto reveals himself and immediately turned on Saiko, even taking Black Parado's data just to devour it.
When Kuroto Dan unveiled Zombie Chronicle to the public, Parado and Poppy worked together to protect the civilians from the hordes of Genms causing mayhem around the streets.
Other Events[]
Kamen Rider × Super Sentai: Chou Super Hero Taisen[]
Parado fights alongside Taiga Hanaya after observing what was going on. As Kamen Rider Para-DX, Parado joined in the Chou Shocker Taisen, fighting in a temporary alliance with his Rider adversaries as well as the Sentai Rangers against the army of Shocker from the Game World.
Personality[]
- "Fate is like a puzzle game."
- ―Parado's belief of what fate is[src]
No one can read his mind from his innocent smile. He has a great obsession with games and is often seen playing on handheld consoles. And true to his obsession, Parado treats all matters like one and operates in a more relaxed and playful manner, unlike the more brash Graphite. As such, he take joy in observing events unfolding before him, and acts more of a general oversight role, while Graphite tends to take care of the fieldwork. However, despite his usual cheerful attitude, Parado can be serious enough, to the point that Graphite himself can't help but obey him. However, unlike Graphite, who is loyal to the Bugster race, Parado didn't hesitate to trick and use his comrade to collect more data from the fights with the Kamen Riders, but as a part of his former collusion with Kuroto Dan. He didn't even seem to be sad or remorseful when Graphite is killed just because of his plan. Since the latter had already reach his perfected form, Parado can just simply revive him again, which he eventually does.
Despite his fun-loving, playful behavior, Parado can be provoked if anyone interrupts him while he is having fun fighting, as shown when the Revol Bugster shoots him from behind; he responds to this by quickly destroying Revol, much to Kuroto's dismay.[The Paradox of Defeating M] However, he won't kill any Bugsters that don't attack him at all, nor provoke him, such as Graphite and Burgermon. After seeing Kuroto destroying both Burgermon and Motors (when the latter is used as a tool), this would eventually drive a wedge between their partnership. He is revealed to have a code of honor among the rules of gaming and his own species, such as his dislike of unfairness. Examples of this are like how Kuroto treated the Parado and the Bugster species as nothing more than expendable tools just for his own ambition, and was also deeply shocked when Lovelica is killed permanently by Cronus. Eventually, having lost his patience with Kuroto and his hubris, Parado murders him with no shred of mercy, all while promising to finish Kamen Rider Chronicle in his own way.
After completing Kamen Rider Chronicle, Parado reveals his contempt towards humanity for their arrogance, which stems from Kuroto's treatment towards using his kind as pawns. His plan for Kamen Rider Chronicle was a large contradiction from Kuroto; while the former CEO wants to use the game as a means to resurrect others (specifically his mother), Parado uses the game as a means to wipe out humanity. Parado also shows his more violent side to "play" with Emu, and even attempted to kill Poppy since she allied herself on the side of humanity.
However, upon Masamune's reveal as Cronus and killing Lovelica permanently, Parado started to show a sign of fear against him. This fear was amplified after the deranged CEO killed Salty permanently by using Kamen Rider Chronicle's Master Gashat. The trauma and fear was so great that Parado was even cowering in a fetal position after Masamune reminded the Bugsters that he could kill them at any time for their disobedience, showing an immense fear of truly dying. However, after a pep talk from Graphite about his initial objective (to "play" against Emu) and witnessing Emu's near-successful plan in dealing with Cronus, Parado regained his confidence once more, stating that his heart is burning once again, but only because he knew his weakness.
It is later revealed that Parado is blinded of the fear of dying and knows no other emotion rather than having fun. When Cronus' power showed how strong he is (even without Pause), Parado finally broke down. His breakdown was also shown when Emu found and seemingly killed him. After he realized all of his sins, he decided to seek redemption.
While a redeemed individual, Parado still does not discard his friendship to his kind. Since he is now on the side of humanity, he attempted reasoning with Graphite to stop eradicating humanity. As humanity's newest savior, he also showed his newfound combat affinity with Emu which was able to pressure even Cronus.
Powers[]
- Bugster Physiology: As a Bugster, Parado possesses all of the various superhuman attributes common among the Bugsters.
- Teleportation: Just like any Bugsters, Parado has shown the ability to teleport himself, but with a coloring glitch-like effect.
- Forcefield Generation: Even in his civilian form, Parado was able to protect Kuroto from Lazer Chambara Bike Gamer Level 3's Giri Giri Critical Finish, without any ill effect. It is a possible foreshadowing of one of his abilities in Puzzle Gamer or Perfect Knock Out Gamer.
- Possession: Like other high level imperfect Bugsters, he can take control of the body of his host, Emu Hojo.
- Regeneration: Due to Parado being born from Emu's DNA, he can fully restore himself by possessing Emu. When Parado is destroyed, even the smallest fragment of his data alone is enough to regenerate his full existence, if absorbed by Emu in time before completely fading away.
- Acquired Human DNA: After tricking Emu (XX L) into using Maximum Mighty X's reprogramming ability, Parado obtained Emu's human DNA, which allowed him to use Kuroto's first Gamer Driver.
- Emu Hojo's Bugster Antibody: As a Bugster created from Emu Hojo, Parado can protect and maintain Emu's existence from any Bugster hazards, preventing the latter from succumbing to game disease completely. This can work both ways, meaning that Parado is also able to activate game disease symptoms within Emu whenever he needs to as well.
Weaknesses[]
- Level 0 Gashats: Bugsters in the Game Areas created from Level 0 Gashats will have their certain abilities restricted; in Parado's case, he can't possess any humans including Emu. Also, any attacks with the usage of Level 0 Gashats can effectively damage Bugsters, regardless of their level gap. Gashats like this can also "Level Down" any enemy rider, as shown in episode 31; Parado's Level dropped down to 75 as he fought Kuroto, and later dropped ever further to his original level (50) as Emu and Kuroto joined forces. This effect however, is temporary as after he canceled his transformation, his level seems to return back to normal.
- Ex-Aid Fullbottles: As the Game Fullbottle contains half of Ex-Aid's Bugster DNA powers, it allows Parado to contact Emu from the World of Build as means of telepathy by shaking it. However, Parado's Bugster physiology reacts poorly to the Fullbottle's purified Nebula Gas content, causing him to fall weak (or even unconscious) when he does this. [Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Riders]
- Aquaphobia: Due to the experience before his first revival, Parado is afraid of water and drowning even after six years.[Kamen Rider Ex-Aid: ~Mighty Novel X~]
Former Weaknesses[]
- Thanatophobia: Ever since Emu was injured in an accident in his childhood, Parado developed the fear of death through Emu's heart, though this was initially disregarded due to the immortal-like nature of Bugsters. However, ever since Parado witnessed the "death" of Bugsters (as well as experiencing it), he has succumbed to this fear again and can lose the will to fight. He would eventually overcome this after reconciling with Emu and resolving to fight on the side of good.

Perfect Knock Out Gamer Level 99 (パーフェクトノックアウトゲーマーレベル99, Pāfekuto Nokkuauto Gēmā Reberu Nainti Nain) is Para-DX's final form, achieved by utilizing the Gashat Gear Dual in the Gamer Driver. This form combines aspects of Puzzle Gamer and Fighter Gamer.
In this form, despite Para-DX's stats being slightly lower than Ex-Aid's Level 99, his amazing combat skills fill the gap, putting him on par with Ex-Aid and easily towering all the other Riders in every stat, including some Riders that have the stats of Level X.
As the form's name suggests, this form combines the physical strength of Knock Out Fighter and the defensive abilities of Perfect Puzzle, along with the ability to combine Energy Items as well.
This form does seem to have the ability to manipulate the Energy Items like Puzzle Gamer, as shown when he first fought Snipe using this form.
The main weapon of Para-DX in this form is the Gashacon Parabragun (ガシャコンパラブレイガン, Gashakon Parabureigan), which can switch between a gun and a hand axe.
Before its debut, Para-DX Level 99 was briefly seen in the new opening sequence.
At first, this form could not be accessed as Bugsters are unable to use a Gamer Driver that were specifically made for humans to use. However, by tricking Emu to use Maximum Mighty X's reprogramming ability on him, fusing their genes together while the two's genetic makeup were one through Mighty Brothers XX, Parado can now use the Driver and transform into this form at will.
By inserting the Mighty Brothers XX Gashat into the Gashacon Parabragun, Para-DX can split into both of his Level 50 forms. The Puzzle Gamer gains mannerisms similar to Emu's soft-spoken nature, while the Fighter Gamer retains Parado's regular fun-loving demeanor.

- The design of his pants are reminiscent of pixels from retro video games.
- According to producer Takahito Omori, Emu and Parado's rivalry was inspired by the one between Shinnosuke Tomari and Heart from Kamen Rider Drive.[6]
- As Parado is a Bugster born from Emu, he shares several similarities to his host:
- Parado adds "Dai" and other prefixes to his "henshin" when transforming. Moreover, his transformation post with a Gamer Driver is identical yet inverted.
- Fighter Gamer and Level 99's design, especially with the visors and "hair-spike" design shares similarities with Ex-Aid.
- According to Shouma Kai, he wanted Parado to remain a villain. As the series reached its conclusion, Parado ends up reforming and cooperates with the main characters.[7]
