This article is about a set of transformational implements in Kamen Rider OOO. |
O Medals (オーメダル, Ō Medaru), commonly referred to as simply Medals (メダル, Medaru), are the special coin-like, collectible devices featured in Kamen Rider OOO.
There are two different types of O Medals:
- Core Medals (コアメダル, Koa Medaru)
- Cell Medals (セルメダル, Seru Medaru)
History[]
Five types of 50 (five sets of 10) models were created by human alchemists 800 years ago as a means to create artificial life, drawing from characteristics of different animals. One medal from each set was taken in order to create a "desire" in the other nine, which ultimately manifested their own consciousness, creating the Greeed.
In modern times, a sixth set known as the Purple Core Medals were created from the antithesis of desire. In the near future, state-of-the-art technology was used to created the Super Core Medals, which seemingly surpass previous Core Medals in power. It is also notable that Foundation X somehow managed to turn Kamen Riders themselves into Core Medals.
In the series finale, only 53 Core Medals remained after Eiji and Maki permanently killed several of the Greeed. However, all Core Medals except for one Core were thought to be destroyed when Eiji was able to defeat the Kyouryu Greeed, with the Greeed absorbing all but one of the Core Medals, along with the Core Sarcophagus Uncontrollable. The influx of power caused a black hole-like collapse of the Purple Core Medals' power, with seven of the Purple Cores seen shattering as they approached the event horizon, disappearing forever. That one Core Medal that was left was the half-split Taka Medal which formerly contained Ankh's consciousness, with Eiji now carrying it with him on his journey while finding a way to fix the medal and revive him. However, in the events of Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Fourze & OOO: Movie War Mega Max, it was eventually revealed that the black hole was not a gateway to destruction, but a time portal, which had sent all of the Core Medals, as well as the Cell Medals, to where the Core Sarcophagus Uncontrollable had gathered, including what could possibly be the remains of the Kyouryu Greeed's consciousness, 40 years into the future. There, they merged into the body of Michal Minato. The overwhelming amount of Cell Medals and Core Medals allowed the newly created medals of Kamen Rider Poseidon to form into a Greeed with a will all of its own.
There were also the King's Core Medals (王が持っていたコアメダル, Ō ga Tsukatteita Koa Medaru), which were originally part of the Core Medal sets that were composed from Ankh, Kazari, and Uva's. Being the only tenth Core Medal separated from the rest of their respective sets instead of being destroyed, the King used them to become Kamen Rider OOO eight centuries ago. They were originally in Kougami's possession until he gives them to Eiji to become the true Kamen Rider OOO. These special Cores were first mentioned in a Foundation X report during the antepenultimate episode of Kamen Rider W, referred to as the King Medal (at the time, it was believed there was only one King Core) which are said to have more power than even the True Gaia Memory. However, prior to the final battle, the King's Core Medals shattered due to the power of the purple Core Medals and the massive amount of Cell Medals in Eiji's body.
After Mega Max, Eiji now has one copy of each Core Medal of the five desire-based Medals. However, the events of Super Hero Taisen had shown that Eiji has regained the Purple Cores, with only seven of the Core Medals being explicitly been shown destroyed in the finale and was never seen/used in Mega Max. Also, Eiji was seen to have two more copies of the Taka, Tora, and Batta Medals to allow Gokai Red, Yellow, and Green to assume his Tajadol, Latorartar, and Gatakiriba Full Combo forms. In Ultimatum, Eiji uses the orange Core Medals, bringing his total count of Medals to 28.
The O Medals, along with the other Rider Powers, were stolen from OOO by Amadum in the world within the Magic Stone, who explained that they were already his due to the Riders' powers being from the same source as evil. However, the power was soon returned thanks to the appearance of Kamen Rider Gaim, with the return of the Medals immediately transforming OOO into Super Tatoba Combo. [Neverending Story]
For some reason, when Eiji reappears again in Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Riders, he does not have any of his Core Medals with him, and has to rely on Foundation X's artificial Core Medals to transform. He similarly requires artificial Core Medals made from the Zeus Dopant’s Core Energy to transform during the events of KAMEN RIDER: memory of heroez.
Core Medals[]
Overview[]
Core Medals (コアメダル, Koa Medaru) are multi-colored O Medals which allows Kamen Rider OOO to transform into any combination of his various forms.
Each set of Core Medals comes in a specific color and animal type. Red Core Medals have bird powers; yellow Core Medals have big cat powers; green Core Medals have insect powers; silver Core Medals have heavy mammal powers; blue Core Medals have marine animal powers; purple Core Medals have dinosaur powers; and orange Core Medals have reptilian powers. There are 70 Core Medals total from the series, each three from a Greeed divided in three groupings for the use of OOO: Head, Arms (Torso), and Legs. They have either one, two, or three horizontal bars on their backs, respectively, to indicate which corresponding OOO Driver slot they are compatible with.
Design[]
A Core Medal consists of the following parts:
- Ouroborosolite (ウロボロソライト, Uroborosoraito) - A special type of ore that the Core Medal is composed of. Its name is derived from the ring of Ouroboros (ウロボロスの輪, Uroborosu no wa) which symbolizes 'infinity'. Although it is an ore mixed with some trace minerals, the acquisition route at that time was not recorded, and the existence of a vein has not been reported in modern times, making it a phantom ore. It is said to originally be a colorless and transparent ore, but the hue has changed slightly.
- Superior Face (スペリオルフェイス, Superioru Feisu) - The animal engraving. It is a relief-like design that correspond to the power hidden within the Ouroborosolite. that Since no traces of artificial processing can be seen, it is speculated that it may be due to the characteristics of Ouroborosolite itself rather than due to human hands.
- Gold Circlet (ゴルドサークレット, Gorudo Sākuretto) - The golden ring. It is a protective ring that protects Ouroborosolite from erosion and physical destruction.
- Crown Ornament (クラウンオーナメント, Kuraun Ōnamento) - The line engravings on the outer surface of the Gold Circlet. It is a kind of shock absorption mechanism that prevents the Golden Circelt and the Ouroborosolite from being destroyed by the repulsive force of the Core Medal's enclosed power.
- Rivet Stone (リベットストーン, Ribetto Sutōn) - Two stones on the top and bottom of the Medal. They are emergency power outlets for the power enclosed in a Medal. In the event of a runaway of power that cannot be absorbed by the Crown Ornament, it plays the role of a safety valve to diffuse energy and radiate it outside. (In the DX toys, the Rivet Stones are the screws holding a Core Medal together.)
- Turnface Sign (ターンフェイスサイン, Tānfeisu Sain) - Lines engraved at the back of the Core Medal. There are various Superior Faces on the surfaces of Core Medals, but one to three line reliefs are engraved in the center at the back. (In the DX toys, the Turnface Signs are stripes that correspond a Medal to a respective slot on the OOO Driver.)

In Tajadol Combo, the Taka Head becomes the Taka Head Brave (タカヘッド・ブレイブ, Taka Heddo Bureibu). It was the first Core Medal to be seen in the series. After Ankh's sacrifice, only one of these remained before it cracked and later broke into two halves while the last intact copy was sucked into a black hole. Following the loss of all the other Core Medals to the black hole, this is the only Core Medal to still exist in some form in present day, the broken halves taken by Eiji on his travels. The Dinosaur Group Core Medals (恐竜系コアメダル, Kyōryū-kei Koa Medaru) are a sixth set of purple medals which were formed from the antithesis of desire and had the potential to shatter Core Medals with ease. Five of these Medals entered Eiji's body when they sensed his lack of desire, having a profound effect on him by allowing him to sense a Yummy and appearing on the OOO Driver on their whim, but they also entered Maki due to his wish for the end of the world. Fully willing to succumb to the Greeed growing inside him, the five cores turned Maki into the Kyouryu Greeed. When Maki took two of his own medals and gave them to Eiji, he himself became a Greeed, unable to resist seven cores. After the death of the Kyouryu Greeed, seven of the purple medals were shattered when they entered the event horizon of the black hole that was caused when OOO defeated the Kyouryu Greeed while the remaining three were sent with the other Core Medals that were sucked up by the black hole's pull. When Eiji was thrown back in time, he met Yoshimune himself. Realizing that they are a source of power for Eiji, Yoshimune gives them to Eiji as a gift, allowing him to use reptilian powers. There are six of these- two complete sets, one from the past given to Eiji, and one with Gara locked with him in his castle up to present time. It is unknown if the two sets are the exact same or separate sets. Eiji kept the medals after the battle with Gara, but did not use them again until years later, in the battle with the Akumaizers. A full set can allow Eiji to transform into the Burakawani Combo, granting him the ability to quickly heal his injuries with a substance called Soma Venom (ソーマ・ヴェノム, Sōma Venomu), as well as use the Burahngi to execute the Cappello Brush (カぺロブラッシュ, Kapero Burasshu), where he summons a giant hooded cobra from the Cobra Head's "ponytail" to attack enemies.

The Crustacean Group Core Medals (甲殻類系コアメダル, Kōkakurui-kei Koa Medaru)[1] are the black medals that were inserted into the homunculus Nobunaga. The medals caused him to turn into a Greeed-like monster the more he pursues his desires. Upon Nobunaga's death at the hands of Eiji, the Medals join with the Memory Memory and create the abomination Kamen Rider Core. Being of the nature of crustaceans/arachnids, they have powers resembling their nature.
The black Sasori (scorpion), Kani (crab), and Ebi (shrimp) Medals appear during the events of Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider OOO & W Featuring Skull: Movie War Core as the items that transform Nobunaga into the Armored Warrior Inhumanoid, and are later used to power Kamen Rider Core. Kamen Rider Core was destroyed alongside the three black Core Medals and Memory Memory by Kamen Rider OOO Tajadol Combo and Kamen Rider Double CycloneJokerGoldXtreme. While the toy Core Medals are compatible with the DX OOO Driver, they do not have a special Combo announcement. The Sasori Medal is considered a leg medal and Ebi is considered an head medal when used by OOO. However, this is reversed in the movie for the Armored Warrior Inhumanoid.

Visually, it is a palette swap of the Tora Arms. In the games and in the Televi Magazine issue, it is illustrated in the use of the Takapanba (タカパンバ ) Random Combo. Scanning Charge finishers with any combo using the Panda Medal are called the Panda Giant Storm (パンダ・ジャイアントストーム, Panda Jaianto Sutōmu), where Kamen Rider OOO does a body slam on the target, then spins the target around before performing a backbreaker to fling the target into the air.
- Kangaroo Medal (カンガルーメダル, Kangarū Medaru): The brown Kangaroo Medal was given out with the August 2011 issue of Televi-Kun magazine to go along with the Kamen Rider OOO Hyper Battle DVD. Unlike other Core Medals, the Kangaroo Medal can be used as either an Arm Medal where it arms Kamen Rider OOO with boxing gloves, called the Gangan Gloves (ガンガングローブ, Gangan Gurōbu), as in the Combo Takagaruba (タカガルバ ), or as a Leg Medal where it gives Kamen Rider OOO spring-loaded jumps and kicks while adorning him with what looks like sneakers, as in the Combo Takatoragaru (タカトラガル ). However, the Kangaroo Medal disappeared after the fight against the second Bison and Shachipanda Yummy. When used in the Ganbaride game, Takagaruba has a finishing attack called the Kangaroo Champion Puncher (カンガルー・チャンピオン・パンチャー, Kangarū Chanpion Panchā), which is similar to the finisher OOO used in the Hyper Battle DVD.

Originally existing as unused sounds within the DX OOO Driver,[2][3] these Medals were later released in the Complete Selection Modification toyline and assigned to new Combos designed by PLEX.
The Super Core Medals (スーパーコアメダル, Sūpā Koa Medaru) are the newly created medals created from technology 40 years in future in Movie War Mega Max, enabling Kamen Rider OOO to evolve from his base Tatoba Combo into Super Tatoba Combo. They are similar in design to the Core Medals; but in addition to the gold edges, they also feature a gold design of the animal they represent. Only three of Super Medals have been revealed in the movie. Michal Minato obtained three Super Core Medals from the future and gave them to Eiji, as thanks for the lesson of what it means to be a Kamen Rider. These Core Medals seem to be the most powerful ones seen so far, giving OOO the ability to stop time.

- Kujira Medal (クジラメダル, Kujira Medaru)
- Ookamiuo Medal (オオカミウオメダル, Ōkamiuo Medaru):
The Arthropod Core Medals (節足動物コアメダル, Sessokudōbutsu Koa Medaru) are the newly created medals allowing OOO to assume the Bikaso Combo. Originally the black Crustacean medals, Kougami Foundation optimized the medals and changed their order. In the Bikaso Combo, OOO is armed with a set of antenna from the Ebi Medal, a pair of armored crab pincer gloves as weapons through the use of the Kani Medal and the Sasori Medal gives OOO purple scorpion-themed boots with razor sharp pointed toes that resemble scorpion stingers. In Kamen Rider OOO 10th: Core Medal of Resurrection, these medals are used by Kamen Rider Birth in conjunction with the X Unit attachment to the Birth Driver to access the Birth X form. In the prologue OOO 10th Kamen Rider Birth: Birth X Secret Birth Story, these medal accidentally transport Shintaro Goto to an alternate world of OOO and subsequently lose their power and colors (reverting to the black versions). In Movie War Mega Max these Medals were all varying shades of sand yellow, but the CSM versions are orange (Shika), dark orange (Gazelle), and white (Ushi). The Shika Medal gives OOO a pair of antlers on his head. The Gazelle Medal empowers OOO with horn gauntlet blades on each hand as weapons and a pointed blade on both shoulders. The Ushi Medal gives OOO cow-print patterned legs with cow faces on the knees that have bull rings as decoration, it is unknown what power the Ushi Medal grants OOO.
- Shika Medal (シカメダル, Shika Medaru, Deer Medal),
- Gazelle Medal (ガゼルメダル, Gazeru Medaru)
- Ushi Medal (ウシメダル, Ushi Medaru, Cattle Medal):
The Poisonous Creature Core Medals (毒を持つ生物コアメダル, Doku o Motsu Seibutsu Koa Medaru) are the newly created medals allowing OOO to transform into the Mukachiri Combo. The Hachi Medal arms OOO with a honeycomb-shaped shield on his left arm and a blade resembling a hornet's stinger on his right. In Movie War Mega Max, these Medals were all varying shades of forest green, but the CSM versions are purple (Mukade), yellow (Hachi) and gray (Ari). The Ari Medal is the only Medal not initially depicted in Kougami's future Medal list.

The Walrus Medal gives OOO a pair of tusks akin to those of an actual walrus, though how they're used is unknown. The Polar Bear Medal gives OOO large white and black gauntlet gloves with razor sharp clawed fingers to slash his foes with and shoulder armor. The Penguin Medal gives OOO blue, white and black leg armor that have scuba diving-like flipper boots with webbed feet, presumably granting OOO the ability to swim swiftly like a penguin.
- Seiuchi Medal (セイウチメダル, Seiuchi Medaru, Walrus Medal)
- Shirokuma Medal (シロクマメダル, Shirokuma Medaru, Polar Bear Medal)
- Penguin Medal (ペンギンメダル, Pengin Medaru)
- Yadokari Medal (ヤドカリメダル, Yadokari Medaru, Hermit Crab Medal): This Core Medal, though depicted in Kougami's future Medal list, was not assigned to a full Combo. Instead, it is used as an Arm Medal for Subspecies Forms.
- Shocker Medal (ショッカーメダル, Shokkā Medaru): The Shocker Medal is the Shocker-themed Core Medal used to create the Shocker Greeed, appearing in Let's Go Kamen Riders, created from a Cell Medal, which arms OOO with the Shocker Legs (ショッカーレッグ, Shokkā Reggu), which the appearance is similar to the Condor Legs. The Shocker Medal only appears in Let's Go Kamen Riders, as the Imagin Medal, alongside the Shocker Medal, dissolve at the end of the film after the timeline was restored. In the S.I.C. Hero Saga story Kamen Rider OOO: OOZ, the Shocker Medal is used in the creation of Shocker OOO, a Kamen Rider/Greeed hybrid where the medal is used as the Washi Head's black lenses that are used for sight instead of legs.
- Gel Shocker Medal (ゲルショッカーメダル, Geru Shokkā Medaru): The Gel Shocker Medal is the Gel Shocker-themed Core Medal used to create the Gel Shocker Greeed. After the Greeed is destroyed it is used by Shocker OOO, giving him Hebi Arms with the snake-like protrusions used to inject venom. [Kamen Rider OOO: OOZ]
- Destron Medal (デストロンメダル, Desutoron Medaru): The Destron Medal is the Destron-themed Core Medal used to create the Destron Greeed. After the Greeed is destroyed it is used by Shocker OOO, giving him the Sasori Legs, the right leg features a scorpion that can inject poison while the left leg has spikes for close range attacks. [Kamen Rider OOO: OOZ]

- Tora Medal (トラメダル, Tora Medaru): A white-colored medal created form the card of Kamen Rider Tiger.
- Batta Medal (バッタメダル, Batta Medaru): A green-colored medal created from the card of Kamen Rider 1.
The Foundation X Created Core Medals (財団X製コアメダル, Zaidan X-sei Koa Medaru) are the artificial versions of the medals created by Foundation X. In Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Riders, they were used to create dummy versions of the Greeed. Eiji later uses some of these Medals to transform into OOO. Unlike the regular Core Medals, these Medals are silver-rimmed rather than gold. Of the Medals created by Foundation X, OOO did not use either of Gamel's or Mezool's Medals, nor did he use the other two of Kazari's Medals.
In KAMEN RIDER: memory of heroez, Zeus Dopant creates the Core Medals using Core Energy, and uses them to revive the Greeed. Eiji later uses some of these Medals to transform into OOO. Unlike the regular Core Medals, these Medals are black-rimmed rather than gold.
In Kamen Rider OOO 10th: Core Medal of Resurrection, Goda Medals (ゴーダメダル, Gōda Medaru) are artificial core medals used by Goda to transform into Kamen Rider Goda. They are later destroyed by Kamen Rider OOO Tajadol Combo Eternity.
Cell Medals[]
Overview[]
Cell Medals (セルメダル, Seru Medaru) are silver O Medals and come from the Greeed, making up their bodies and those of the Yummy. Cell Medals can feature the front side of any Core Medal (including from the special black, purple, and orange sets), usually one from the Greeed who produced it but with no needed correlation once Yummies start accumulating them; their backs feature an X, though some shots show them as having the same horizontal bars as Core Medals. These Medals are a manifestation of human desire that hold tremendous power, and can be generated by Yummies absorbing targets of human desire. While the Greeed were sealed away, the Kougami Foundation studied and gathered the Cell Medals, incorporating them in their Ridevendor, Medajaribur, and Candroid technology.
Whereas Core Medals can be used and reused without effect done on the Medals, Cell Medals only have a limited amount of energy and vanish when the energy has been depleted, usually after one use. Also unlike Cores, which can only be completely destroyed, Cell Medals can be broken, as demonstrated by Uva and Poseidon's shattering of Cell Medals to make Kuzu Yummies.
Unlike Kamen Rider OOO, who uses Core Medals, Birth uses these Cell Medals to transform, access weapons, or power a Cell Burst finisher. No specific Cell Medal is required for Kamen Rider Birth to do any particular task (though oddly, Sasori Cell Medals from the Black Medal set otherwise exclusive to Movie War Core are commonly seen being used by him to transform, even featuring in his spot in the opening theme). He also fires Cell Medals from the Birth Buster for stinging effect against Yummies.
Design[]
A Cell Medal consists of the following parts:
- Spirit Silver (スピリットシルバ, Supiritto Shiruba) - A metal that the Cell Medal is composed of. It is a type of special shape memory metal called live metal (ライブメタル, raibu metaru). Although it cannot store as much energy as Ouroborosolite, it has an excellent balance of energy storage rate and strength, and most of the Cell Medals are made of this metal.
- Higher Face (ハイヤーフェイス, Haiyā Feisu) - The animal engraving. Due to the characteristics of Spirit Silver, the design of living things corresponding to the Medal's hidden power appears in the relief.
- Silver Ornament (シルバオーナメント, Shiruba Ōnamento) - The engravings on the side of the Cell Medal. It is a kind of shock absorption mechanism that prevents the Spirit Silver from being destroyed by the repulsive force of the Cell Medal's enclosed power.
- Turnface Sign χ (ターンフェイスサイン・χ, Tānfeisusain Chi, (pronounced 'Turnface Sign Chi')) - A 'χ' shaped relief common to all Cell Medals is engraved on the back.

Notes[]
- In the series, the Core Medals uses two different series of props, with one being based on the DX toys and another that is larger for use by suit actors.
- The toy-based prop does not contain the chip that can usually be seen through the medal's plastic, while the larger props feature an opaque surface and fully enclosed gold edge.
- The Core Medals are the only Heisei Phase 2 collectibles whose final form item (the purple medals) are not physically different from the standard items that came before.
- The purple medals are also the only final form collectibles in the Phase 2 Heisei Era to be composed of multiple pieces rather than a singular item.
- Out of the 5 future medal sets, only 3 have been used by riders other than OOO.
- The Saramiuo Medals were used by Kamen Rider Poseidon in Movie War Mega Max.
- The Bikaso Medals were used by Kamen Rider Birth to access his Birth X form.
- Although the actual Mukachiri Medals were not used, a similar set of medals with the same motif, the Goda Medals, were used by Goda to transform into Kamen Rider Goda.
- The Shocker Medal, the Super Core Medals and the Goda Medals are movie form medals whose Superior Face and Rivet Stones have a gold coloration.
