History
Background
Immediately after creation, Neon runs to safety into her father's arms.
Akari Kurama (鞍馬 あかり, Kurama Akari)[4] was the eight-year-old daughter of Kousei and Irumi Kurama who was kidnapped and murdered for ransom by Kazuo Numabukuro. Wanting to bring his daughter back, Kousei Kurama made a wish with the Goddess of Genesis and remade the world. Memories of Akari were replaced by Neon entirely, with the kidnapping incident being altered so that "Neon" had survived instead.
As a result of the kidnapping, Irumi assigned both Ben and John as Neon's bodyguards. However her mother's overprotective nature had evolved into abuse and control, causing Neon to grow weary of a rich lifestyle and desire for a normal life with people who will love her unconditionally. As such she began live-streaming her various home escape attempts in her own show titled Neon TV (祢音TV, Neon Tī Bui), which granted her a sizable fanbase.
Daybreak/Encounter Arc
Neon and Keiwa meet Ace Ukiyo.
While filiming in the city for her streams, Neon was trapped in the Jyamar Area and was attacked by the Wasou Jyamato. While running away for safety, she ran into Keiwa Sakurai for the first time, and they were saved by Takeshi Goutokuji, who was later instantly killed by the Slug Fortress Jyamato. Neon falls over the side of the building, but Ace Ukiyo swoops in on his bike to catch her. He encouraged the two that he would save the world. Neon and Keiwa watched Ace transform into Kamen Rider Geats, defeating the Jyamato horde to return the world back to normal.
Kamen Rider Na-Go teams up with Mary.
As the next edition of the DGP began, Neon was invited by Tsumuri to join the Desire Grand Prix, which restored her memories of meeting Ace and Keiwa. She decided to enter the competition to achieve his wish to find a suitable partner. At the Desire Temple, she spoke about her dreams of leaving the rich lifestyle and how she was willing to risk her life to achieve it. That put her in the crosshairs of Kanato Sumida, who singled Neon out and attempted to harm her during the second round.
Na-Go assuming HammerBoost Form.
Although Neon was infected by a zombie bite, she was further disheartened after learning her mother deleted all her videos and decided to runaway from home again. While she nearly lost the will to fight, Ace and Keiwa encouraged her to never stop fighting. Thus, Neon bravely finished the second round and cured both herself and Kanato, with the latter having been eliminated. During the Concentration game, Ace was paired with Neon. Ace found the secret to beating the Trump Jyamato and trains Neon to practice against virtual Jyamato. Together, the two were able to score the first points of the round.
Na-Go and Buffa in the final round.
During the final round, the players are forced to battle the Saboten Knight Jyamato, a final boss that annihilated every player in a previous tournament. Despite the efforts from the other Riders, the Jyamato proved to be resilient and Keiwa was eliminated after substaining too much damage. Neon fought with Michinaga Azuma to take on the Saboten Knight Jyamato. She tries to attack using her Propeller Buckle, but is unable to get close enough. Neon watches as Ace arriving to defeat the final boss using the Monster Buckle. Neon expressed disappointment in her loss but is encouraged by Ace to never forget her ideals so her wish could come true someday.
Conspiracy Arc
Na-Go returns!
With the world having reset, Neon lost her memories of the game as well as her desire for true love and escapism, and returned to being obedient to her mother. One day, she was visited by Tsumuri and was encouraged by her father to rejoin the Desire Grand Prix. Mid-way into the Pirate Game, she defeated the horde of Jyamato with her new Beat Form. Her sudden entry into the game intrigued Ace, who questioned the Desire Grand Prix's intentions for doing so.
With Niramu's help, Neon exposes Girori for his abuse of authority.
Neon then confronted her father on why and how he knew about the Desire Grand Prix, while escaping from home again, later discovering from both her bodyguards that their family corporation is a major stakeholder for the DGP. Although Neon and Keiwa attempted the final round on their own, Michinaga's death as well as Ace's elimination had them discouraged, to which Ace's unexpected return forced Girori to have all the Riders attack Ace in a "fox hunt." Realizing that the Game Master's intent was malicious, Neon secured a meeting with Niramu, who then proceeded to terminate Girori on the spot. Niramu congratulates the remaining riders, as Desire Grand Prix enter it's newest round.
Divergence Arc
Neon has moved to live in Desire Temple along with other Riders upon the request of the new Game Master, Chirami. Unknown to the rest of the Riders, Neon was chosen to be the Desastar and as per the rules, was forced to complete the Desastar prompt card missions. Throughout the games, while keeping her identity hidden as the Desastar will be voted out at the end of each game rounds, Neon stayed silent as Keiwa was suspected by Daichi Isuzu, though later Neon vouched for Keiwa against Sae, eventually getting Daichi eliminated following the other Riders' support for Keiwa. As the Timebomb Game began, Neon helped Keiwa save Sara, though she also threw a bomb behind Ace and Keiwa as per Desastar rules. Later Sae's family became the second target of the bombs. Sae ultimately discovered Neon's identity as she found the Desastar prompt card in her room, where Chirami put on purpose. However seeing that Neon did not sacrifice her own familial ideals and love which saved Sae's family, Sae volunteered herself for elimination and encouraged Neon to find her own love. As her last Desastar mission revealed that her wish will never come true permanently if she got exposed, she failed in trying to hide her identity as she became too obvious in her plans. Before she got voted out however, due to Beroba stealing Chirami's Vision Driver, this round of the Desire Grand Prix became indefinitely suspended. Neon later visits Kyunn's room, only found her support being absent and only leaves a letter and Feverslot Buckle for her, Neon later returns to the town to fight when Beroba announces the begin of Jyamato Grand Prix.

Later, Neon was approached by Kyuun and deduces that he was the one who was writing the letters to her. However because his true self was very much not like the encouraging person portrayed in the letters, she left him disappointed. Later, Neon is approached by Ace, who asked her about the circumstances regarding her kidnapping 11 years ago. During their conversation, the Jyamato Grand Prix resumed with Neon set to fight in the next round, but Ace took her place instead. In the midst of the fight, Beroba revealed Kousei's secret regarding Neon, which caused all of Neon's fans to turn against her. Yearning Arc
With Michinaga's victory as the new Jyamashin, it reset the world and Neon was returned to her normal life without her memories. However she was approached by Beroba, who returned Neon her gear and restored her memories with the intent to see her suffer. Kyuun arrived to comfort Neon and offered to bring her to the future one day. Despite his suggestion to Neon warning her of the dangers in doing so, Neon persisted in joining the Desire Royale in order to bring forth a world where no one remembers who she was.
Upon entering, Neon was surprised to see that Sara had joined up as a Rider, learning that it was done to spare Keiwa from fighting ever again. However as Neon later discovered, Keiwa had already recovered his memories and asked Neon to keep his participation a secret from Sara. Afterwards, Daichi approached both Neon and Sara with a plan to recover a large number of ID Cores as per the rules of the next Desire Royale. However as the two follow his plans, they find Ace who had told the two that Daichi had fooled them.
When the Jamato target Sara on Kekera and Beroba's orders, Neon helps Keiwa protect her long enough for the three of them to escape. Neon later learns from Kyuun that no matter who wins the Desire Royale, the administrators have no intention of granting the winner's wish. Neon informs Keiwa and Sara of this shortly before Michinaga ambushes them. In an effort to shield Sara from Michinaga's killing blow, Neon absorbs the blow and is forced out of transformation along with Sara. Despite her pleas, Michinaga destroys both their ID cores in one fist, eliminating both girls from the game.
Genesis Arc
Due to Ace's powers, Neon's memories relating to the DGP were restored despite her Core ID destroyed. Once again escaping from home, she successfully move to a new house with the aid of Sara, starting to live alone. When she saw Jyamato appears on the streets, Neon saves the civilians despite her losing the ability to transform, only having herself to be saved by Ace. She later went to back to Kurama's house, upon knowing Kousei being arrested, refusing her mother's request to stay again. After Sara dies, she felt guilty for being unable to save her and the infected civilians, due to her not having Rider powers, and later went to the prison in hopes that Kousei can make her a Rider again, while expressing her pity towards her father for losing the feeling to love.
After Keiwa recreates the world, Neon saves Kousei from Turbon, one of the revived Riders, while claiming that Kousei doesn't lose his ability to love if he still clings to Akari's memories. Later Neon was once again targeted by Beroba, who uses Kazuo Numabukuro, another one of the revived Riders, to kidnap her to the place where Akari was kidnapped 11 years ago. Beroba mocks her for being only a replication of Akari, claiming no one would come to save her. But Kousei, with his newly found resolve and powers thanks to Neon's actions, becomes Kamen Rider Gyago and comes to rescue her. Despite Neon successfully untying herself, she cannot react to the fatal blow from Beroba, only for Kousei to take the blow for her and defeating Kazuo, causing Beroba takes her leave. Kousei falls down and detransform, seeing a vision of Akari, holding Neon into his arms and faints. In the hospital, Irumi rushes and holds Neon in her arms, expressing her sincere feelings treating Neon as her real daughter. After the conversation between the family, Neon finally feels the true love she longed for. Accepting her family again, Neon is given her father's ID Core and confronts Beroba again, who attacks the hospital. Neon inserts the Core ID into the Driver, despite it not reacting. With Neon's resolve to protect her family, Ace lends some of his powers to turn the Gya-Go ID Core into the Na-Go ID Core, allowing her to finally transform into Kamen Rider Na-Go Fantasy Form. With her newfound powers, Neon defeats Beroba and rejoins Ace's DGP.
When Neon goes out shopping with Irumi to celeberate their reconcile, Kanato, who regains the Driver and Da·Paan ID Core, sudden appears and attacks them, though Na-Go successfully suppressed Da·Paan BeatMagnum Form through the powers of Fantasy Buckle, Irumi was hurt by a gun shot from Da·Paan. Later, Neon was forced to witness the duel between Ace and Keiwa, after Michinaga fails to stop Keiwa's rampage to take over the Gang Riders.
After Ace reverts the world towards the original state after Grand End, Neon and Michinaga discovers the disappearance of Ace and Keiwa, alongside the existence of Gang Riders, the two then rushes to save Daichi in order to have him to save Sara, but only to find the tree of knowledge created by him being stolen by Beroba and Kekera, after Beroba was being defeated by Michinaga, Neon witnessed Sara to released from the tree by the aid of Daichi.
When Kekera make the wish to make the world to allow the only existing Kamen Rider to be Tycoon, Neon was forcibily changed into a cat puppet, until Kekera has been defeated by Tycoon himself, reverting her back to normal. After Suel begins the End of Desire Grand Prix, Neon discuss with Kousei to make use of their identity as a former sponsor of DGP to tackle Suel by dealing with the VIP audience who wished for bad end. When Suel as Regad Omega tries to use his ability against Ace, Neon and Kousei counters his powers by sending the VIP audience back to future who prioritized their own lives over the entertainment. However, she was later being shocked by the death of Ace when she returns to the town to stop the End Riders to fight. She then have a tough fight against Regad Omega despite having Tycoon and Buffa's aid, and even having her rider powers being erased by Regad Omega's time rewinding ability, but thanks to Ace's return as a god, Neon's powers as Na-go recovers again and the Riders has defeated Suel.

Kamen Rider Na-Go is a playable character in Kamen Rider Battle: Ganba Legends. Multiple different forms of hers are avaliable through different cards. Neon makes an appearance in her civilian form in Event cards.
Personality
Neon is happy and cheerful while on camera of her own live-streamed show Neon TV. Unlike most rich people such as her mother, Neon desires a much more mundane life. This mostly stems from the fact that her mother, Irumi is extremely protective of her ever since Neon was kidnapped years ago to a controlling and abusive degree, which leads to her often attempting to escape her home to live her own life, and later joins the Desire Grand Prix in order to find "true love", not necessarily romantic one, but any kind of real love, shown in her being enamored with the display of affection of other families with better relationship, such as the Sakurai siblings or the Ganaha family. When eliminated from the DGP, her personality changed to accepting her mother's choices instead of defying them, though she's still subtly upset about obeying those.
Neon has a certain level of innocence due to her sheltered life that can lead to her being tricked, as such she gets emotionally upset often, albeit she can regain her spirit to keep going. An example is giving up hope on ever winning after she was bitten by a zombie, but with help from Keiwa and Ace, she manages to continue fighting. Later, she temporary lost her resolve to fight after Beroba reveals that she's a creation wished by Kousei Kurama to replace Akari Kurama, getting mercilessly mocked by her future fans as a result, and was almost killed if it weren't for Kyuun's interference. Despite regaining her resolve to fight, Neon still has self-loathing, viewing herself as someone who's not supposed to exist and blaming herself for leading her fans on, changing her desire to having the world forget about her, while feeling out of place in the world to be conflicted about living in the future with Kyuun or staying in the present.
Throughout her journey, she has already feeling and experiencing "true love", such as other Desire Grand Prix players who view her as a friend like Ace, Keiwa, and Sae, her supporter like Kyuun, and Sara Sakurai, an avid fan of her since the very beginning who later becomes a sister-like figure, but Neon doesn't realize or recognize that because of how long she hadn't been outright told it before, and her origins further makes her think she not capable of being loved. This continues when her parents try to make amends for her, insisting that she's not their actual daughter. Neon herself also demonstrates a great capacity of "true love" for others as well, often being kind and caring to others, such as aiding other players like Ittetsu Tanba and Michinaga in the DGP, and actively saving civilians throughout the game, which she continues to do when her actions won't get rewarded like fighting in the Jyamato Grand Prix, or when she lost her ability to transform. She's also generally against underhanded actions, though her Desastar role managed to push her into desperation, as her last mission card reveals that she'd lose her wish permanently if she gets unmasked, making her temporarily more underhanded to cover her status, but also impulsive, making her easily exposed.
Without the need of the DGP, her own love for others is what eventually allows her to achieve her wish of "true love", with it getting repaid after she saves Kousei from Kirito Asari and uplifting him despite how Kousei treated her, finally changing his and Irumi's hearts for good, inspiring them by how Neon manages to find "true love" by herself in her own compassion, while they failed their job as parents to give her one, leading them to make amends with her by moving on from Akari’s loss, with Kousei joining Ace's DGP as Gya-Go to save her from Akari's kidnapper Kazuo Numabukuro, and explicitly telling Neon that he and Irumi loves her as their own daughter. Receiving "true love" from her reformed parents makes Neon realize that she's worthy of love regardless of her origins, becoming more confident and stronger in the process, regaining her happiness and is no longer emotionally upset.

Despite knowing that Neon is the Desastar, Sae allow herself to be voted since Neon helps her save her family members during Fruit Bomb mission. Moments before she retires, Sae encouraged Neon to find her own genuine love, with Neon tearfully mourns Sae as she hold the latter's Desire Driver.
- (Kamen Rider) Kyuun: Kyuun acts as Neon's supporter, since the former wishes for Neon to be truly happy, evident by the letters used by Kyuun to convey his feelings. However, Kyuun's sharp-tongued front when meeting Neon in person rubs her in the wrong way. Neon later deduces that he is her supporter, though she gets mad at him for not revealing himself earlier and talking to her in a different manner. When Beroba reveals the truth of Neon's origins, sending her into near despair, Kyuun finally works up the courage and honesty to reveal to Neon his true feelings of wanting to support her in her journey towards finding true happiness.
Allies
- Ben & John: Neon's bodyguards who keep chasing her to bring her home. Even after Grand End is postponed, Beroba didn't cease her attempt to make Neon feel miserable, such as employing Kazuo to recreate Akari kidnapping years ago, and later attempted to attack the Hospital Kousei resides with the intent of killing him. Ultimately, thanks to her parents full support and true love, Neon find courage to transform again as Na-Go and finally defeats Beroba.
- Girori/Kamen Rider Glare: The former Game Master, who tries to get rid of Ace for good. Neon disapproves of his actions and would rather compete in the DGP fairly.
- Kanato Sumida/Kamen Rider Da·Paan: Neon asked if he wants to team up, only for Kanato to coldly reject her offer. Beroba then recruits him to kill Neon and he fires at Irumi in their battle. Neon calls out Kanato as he watches Geats & Tycoon from afar for the twisted joy & pleasure of having them both dead, that bringing others down won't make him happier. Behind the Scenes
Portrayal
Neon Kurama is portrayed by Yuna Hoshino (星乃 夢奈, Hoshino Yuna). Her child self is portrayed by Natsuki Matsuoka (松岡 夏輝, Matsuoka Natsuki), who also portrays Akari Kurama. As Kamen Rider Na-Go, her suit actress is Yuki Miyazawa (宮澤 雪, Miyazawa Yuki).
Etymology
- Reflecting her unnatural origin, Neon is likely named after neon lighting, in contrast to her predecessor Akari, whose name means "light" or "sun and moon", the natural sources of brightness. The kanji of her name literally means "the mausoleum (祢)'s sound (音)", foreshadowing her dark past.
- According to Yuya Takahashi, the meaning of Neon's full name is "a light shining in the darkness" (暗い間で輝く光, Kurai ma de kagayaku hikari).[21]
- Na-Go's name comes from the Japanese word for cat, "neko" (猫), and the onomatopoeia for a cat's meow, "nyā" (ニャー).
Notes
- According to producer Naomi Takebe, Neon was conceptualized with a "cute and adorable" demeanor, aiming to break the pace of the trend of headstrong female Riders.[22][2]
- While Kamen Rider Gya-Go's Fantasy Form uses the mouthpiece of Kamen Rider Seeker, Na-Go's version uses a repainted Boost Form mouthpiece.
- Na-Go's eyes also feature additional blue accents along the upper edges in Fantasy Form.
- For Kamen Rider Na-Go's primary form, the production crew initially contemplated with two choices: Beat Form and Fantasy Form. While Fantasy Form was initially favored, the decision shifted to Beat Form during pre-production. Ultimately, Fantasy Form was realized as Na-Go's final form.[23][24]
- Neon's transformation pose into Na-Go Fantasy Form is very similar to her father, Kousei's.
