This article is about a Rider in Kamen Rider Geats. |
Morio Koganeya (小金屋 森魚, Koganeya Morio) was a former casino dealer who participated in the Desire Grand Prix as Kamen Rider Mary (仮面ライダーメリー, Kamen Raidā Merī).
History
Background
Morio Koganeya used to be a dealer at an illegal casino and was on the run from the authorities. Though he ended up joining the Desire Grand Prix, the police believed he fled overseas with his earnings.
Encounter Arc
As the next edition of the DGP began, Morio was invited by Tsumuri to join the Desire Grand Prix. In the Treasure Hunting mission, Morio approached Neon Kurama and offered to team up. He was able to get a Shield Buckle and was permitted to progress towards the next round. During the Zombie Hunting mission, Morio would resort to fighting zombies with only a Raise Shield.
Noticing that Keiwa Sakurai had a high ranking despite having a weak weapon, Morio learned how the former was focused on getting people to safety. When the Zombie Hunting mission progressed, Morio intentionally led the zombies toward some civilians to both rescue and receive points. But after he finishes them off, Kanato Sumida appears and bites him. Fortunately, Neon was able to finish the second round and Morio was cured before the zombification could take hold.
During the Concentration game, the players would pair up to defeat the Trump Jyamato. Morio had to team up with a silent DGP employee who would remain transformed as Kamen Rider PunkJack. He received a Chain Array Buckle, but Morio gave him his Shield Buckle instead after sensing that PunkJack wanted it. Despite trying to fight as a team, Morio was fed up with PunkJack not cooperating. Girori advised Morio to purchase a special ticket that would enable him to exchange partners, which he would use to switch with Michinaga, leaving Keiwa with PunkJack.
Morio then bragged about being able to feel the print on a card, likely having cheated in drawing Michinaga as his partner. The other players grew to scoff at Morio after learning his previous crimes, especially after he swiped Keiwa's Boost Buckle. As the round nearly concluded, Michinaga purchased another ticket to switch back to their original partners. This resulted in Mary and PunkJack to be in last place. Morio vowed that he will get his revenge the next time they all meet before being eliminated; however, Ace told the others not to mind him since he will not be given another chance.
Aftermath
Afterwards, he is never seen again, save for a small cameo in the final episode, where his name is on one of the wishing plaques.
Personality
Morio is an individual who acts solely out of convenience. It is hinted that his desire may be luxurious in nature, as money was the first thing he brought up when discussing the various wishes that the Desire Grand Prix could possibly grant to its winner.
Despite his friendly and generally laid-back demeanor, Morio will only choose to get close to individuals and attempt to butter them up if he deems them interesting for the time being. However, once they have exhausted their usefulness towards him, he will immediately become standoffish towards them. Additionally, he will resort to cheap tactics to try and gain the upper hand in the game as long as they are not against the rules, such as sneakily luring Jyamato towards ordinary civilians so that he can "rescue" them and gain more points, or offering to trade partners with other players in double-team matches so that he can place himself in a more advantageous position, as well as stealing other players' items. He is even capable of hurting his teammates just by fulfilling his objective.
Eventually, it's revealed that he's a crook who once worked at an illegal casino, which explains that overall he's a two-faced individual who's only concerned of saving his own skin, including fleeing from the country to escape investigation. As the truth about his background got revealed, his friendly facade slowly cracks over time, with others starting to notice the contradictions in his facade, such as telling Michinaga to not give Keiwa advice right after giving advice to him, exposing himself as the one who stole the Boost Buckle. After his elimination, the facade fully crumbles with him lashing out at the other players, vowing to crush them.

Relationships
Desire Grand Prix Participants
- Neon Kurama/Kamen Rider Na-Go: After Kanato Sumida rejected her offer to team up, Morio came up to her instead to team up with her for the game. In the second round, however, once Neon was revealed to have been bitten by a Zombie Jyamato, Morio turned cold towards her, dragging her out and throwing her aside when the other players decided to isolate the zombified players.
- Keiwa Sakurai/Kamen Rider Tycoon: While the two have met, they only first interacted when Morio asked how Keiwa managed to score points with his Raise Arrow, to which Keiwa responded that he saved a few civilians instead of fighting. Apart from that, Morio otherwise disregarded Keiwa throughout the game, perceiving him as one of the weaker players.
- Kanato Sumida/Kamen Rider Da·Paan: Morio asked if Kanato wanted to trade the latter's recently collected Magnum Buckle in exchange for his Shield Buckle, only for Kanato to coldly deny his offer.
- Win Hareruya/Kamen Rider PunkJack: While the two were paired up for the third round, Morio was frustrated with PunkJack's seemingly single-minded attitude, and the two were not able to work together coherently. This would lead to Morio taking up the idea of using the special VIP ticket to become Buffa's new partner and pair Tycoon up with PunkJack instead.
- Michinaga Azuma/Kamen Rider Buffa: Morio switched partners with Buffa in order to take advantage on his victory in the Grand Prix. However, Michinaga turned on him when using the Boost Buckle.
Behind the Scenes
Portrayal
Morio Koganeya is portrayed by Koji Abe (あべ こうじ, Abe Kōji). As Kamen Rider Mary, his suit actor is Takuma Komori (小森 拓真, Komori Takuma).
Etymology
- Mary's name could be based on the titular character from the "Mary Had A Little Lamb" nursery rhyme.
Notes
- Prior to his elimination, it remains unknown what Morio's desire was that he written in the Desire Card had he won the Desire Grand Prix.
- He is the only Rider in the series whose helmet has full-on fur, with the rest featuring bare and smooth surfaces (though Buffa does have hair-like strands behind his helmet). This is especially prominent with Kamen Riders Letter, Hakubi, Brali, and Turbon, who reuse the same helmet base but without the fur.
