This article is about a Rider in Kamen Rider Gotchard. |
Minato (ミナト ) is a teacher at Furasu High School and the Alchemist Academy. He temporarily was the fourth Kamen Rider Dread (仮面ライダードレッド, Kamen Raidā Doreddo).
History
Background
Minato was born in 1989[2].
Ten years ago, Minato was a student of the Alchemist Academy where he was acquainted with Daiki Suzuya and Kyoka Edami. He also had an amicable relationship with Glion, a high-ranking member of the academy.
However, Glion decided to betray the Alchemist Academy to pursue his dark ambition, which is to open the Door of Darkness. Minato was warned by Suzuya about his betrayal, thanks to Fuga Kudo informing the latter during an assault from the Three Dark Sisters and various Malgams. Glion at first acted innocent and said that the real traitor was Fuga instead, asking Minato to believe him. However, Minato chose to side with his junior and ended up using his alchemy to restraint Glion, but this act proved to be Minato's undoing.
Angered by Minato, Glion drops his innocent facade and taught him a harsh lesson by killing Suzuya using his alchemy. He then hypnotized all nearby Alchemist Academy members to kill each other, while cruelly reminding Minato that this outcome is all his fault for using alchemy against him. As a sadistic joke, Glion also purposely decided to not erase his memory for this event, which left a long lasting trauma on the young Minato. Even in the present day, he still holds himself responsible on the death of Suzuya and many more.

Personality
In his guise as Furasu High School’s History Teacher, Minato presented himself as a laid-back and somehow unserious teacher to his students.
However, as the current instructor of Alchemist Academy, Minato is a stern and no-nonsense teacher who highly upholds the rules of said Academy, and as such hardly tolerates anything that could disrupt the balance of the world. He can also be rather ruthless at times, as shown when he erased the memory of Boruto Namarizaki, not caring about the latter’s heritage or presumed status.
Despite his upbringing, Minato shares the same mindset with Houtaro about the future possibilities of Chemies in general. That being said, he didn't let Houtaro go unpunished whenever he breaks the rules. Additionally, he does harbor fear towards the destructive possibilities of Chemies as Malgams, leading him to work undercover with Glion. The aforementioned ruthlessness of his also manifested once he became the fourth user of the Dreadriver, as shown when he intimidated the Alchemist Academy students to give up their Ride Chemy Cards and Alchemist Rings (although this later turned out to be a facade). He even defeated Supana, confiscating the latter's Ride Chemy Cards to make him unable to transform into Valvarad with his Valvarusher ever again.
It's later revealed that Minato deeply cares about his comrades, even when he was fighting Houtaro and his friends/students as Dread. His failure to save Suzuya and various Alchemist Academy members from Glion left a long lasting trauma on his psyche, which drove him to side with the evil mastermind and the Three Dark Sisters. Despite this, he has secretly decided to fight Glion alone, while attempting to spare Houtaro and his friends/students from suffering the same fate Suzuya and many others met.
Kamen Rider Dread
- "Dread, Zeroshiki."
- ―Dread Type Zero transformation announcement[src]
- Rider Height: 210.9 cm
- Rider Weight: 124.4 kg
- Ability Parameters[3]
- Punching Power: 14.2 t
- Kicking Power: 18.4 t
- Maximum Jump Height: 15.7 m
- Maximum Running Speed: 100 m per 6.1 sec.
Type Zero (零式, Zeroshiki) is Kamen Rider Dread's default form accessed by using the Repli-Steamliner Repli Chemy Card in the Dreadriver.
As the antithesis of Gotchard, Dread sacrifices his Replichemies to use their powers. He has higher punching power, kicking power, and running speed, but a lower jump height. In addition, he is easily able to single-handedly defeat Valvarad. As Dread, Minato is proven to be a master in hand to hand combat like Clotho, and unlike the latter, he uses more efficient strikes.
Dread Type Zero consists of the following parts:
- Dread Mask (ドレッドマスク, Doreddo Masuku): The helmet.
- Wisdom Lamp (ウィズダムランプ, Wizudamu Ranpu): The beacon of wisdom. By accumulating the knowledge possessed by the user and the Replichemy and turning it into a collective intelligence, its intelligence increases with each transformation and transmutation.
- Maat Signal (マアトシグナル, Maato Shigunaru): The tuner device. It maximizes the destructive power by adjusting the transmutation state from time to time.
- Dread Horus (ドレッドホルス, Doreddo Horusu): The compound eyes. The application of various Replichemy powers to human vision changes its characteristics in various ways. Different abilities can be used simultaneously on the left and right side.
- Irogane Skull (イロガネスカル, Irogane Sukaru): The skull. The extremely strong skeleton forged from Repli-Steamliner has an ultra-pressure-resistant structure, and will not be shaken by any attack.
- Hecate Blast (ヘカテブラースト, Hekate Burāsuto): The conversion furnace. Burning like a blast furnace inside the body, it produces tremendous destructive power by mixing and burning the power of Replichemies and all things as alchemical materials.
- Rider Golem (ライダゴレム, Raida Goremu): The body. It has an extremely strong skeleton and ultra-pressure-resistant structure due to the combination of the human body and the Replichemy Repli-Steamliner. It embodies the potential for all kinds of destruction by overlapping the power of many more Chemies.
- Dante Actuator (ダンテアクチュエーター, Dante Akuchuētā): The arms. The "Dante Steam Compression", which increases arm strength by filling with ultra-high-pressure steam, delivers an ultra-high-pressure punch with extraordinary grip strength and destructive energy.
- Draw Holder (ドローホルダー, Dorō Horudā): The cardholder. It can store up to 20 Replichemy cards.
- Dante Departure (ダンテデパーチャー, Dante Depāchā): The legs. The "Dante Steam Compression", which increases leg strength by filling with ultra-high-pressure steam, delivers an ultra-high-pressure kick with overwhelming driving force and destructive energy.
This form has the following finishers:
- Dreadriver finisher:
- Dread Breaking (ドレッドブレイキング, Doreddo Bureikingu): Dread concentrates lava from the Hecate Blast before transferring the lava into his leg, manifesting spikes on it, and delivering a spinning roundhouse kick that launches the enemy away.
- Blood Sacrifice (ブラッドサクリファイス, Buraddo Sakurifaisu): After Dread scans four or more Repli Chemy Cards in the Vevel Setter on the top of the Driver, and inserts the Repli Chemy Card into the Khonsu Stiller slot before pulling the Nekhbetvoke Lever, Dread performs a super attack that incorporates the Chemy's unique ability or transmute weapons.
- Repli-Madwheel: Dread creates a giant tire with spikes on the rim before launching it at the enemy.
- "Dread, Ichishiki."
- ―Dread Type One transformation announcement[src]
- Rider Height: 212.9 cm
- Rider Weight: 141.1 kg
- Ability Parameters[4]
- Punching Power: 26.1 t
- Kicking Power: 42.1 t
- Maximum Jump Height: 30.2 m
- Maximum Running Speed: 100 m per 4.6 sec.
Type One (壱式, Ichishiki) is Kamen Rider Dread's upgrade form accessed by using the Repli-Steamliner and Repli-Unicon Repli Chemy Card in the Dreadriver.
In this form, Dread's stats are increased to the point of even surpassing almost all of Fire Gotchard Steamhopper's stats. Though he still loses to Gotchard Daybreak by a couple margins. As this form utilizes the Repli-Unicon Repli Chemy Card, similar to Majade, Dread can also use unicorn-like abilities.
Dread Type One adds the following parts:
- Dread Mask (Type One) (ドレッドマスク (壱式), Doreddo Masuku Ichi-shiki): The helmet.
- Silver Obelista (シルバオベリスタ, Shiruba Oberisuta): The face armor. It controls the healing power stolen from the Repli Chemy Repli-Unicon and exhibits super-recovery abilities.
- Monoceuro (モノケウロ, Monokeuro): The enhancement armor. It controls forces and specializes in condensing destructive energy. This makes the various attacks highly refined and maximizes combat efficiency. It also functions as a shield that parries all attacks.
This form has the following finishers:
- Dreadriver finisher:
- Dread Breaking (ドレッドブレイキング, Doreddo Bureikingu): Dread charges the Bloody UC with light energy and delivers a powerful slash attack.

Behind the Scenes
Portrayal
Minato is portrayed by Rikuto Kumaki (熊木 陸斗, Kumaki Rikuto). As Kamen Rider Dread, his suit actor is Yuya Nawata (縄田 雄哉, Nawata Yūya)..
Etymology
Notes
- Kumaki based his performance off of Kakashi Hatake from Naruto[5] and tried to balance between playing the somber high-school teacher and the smart alchemist professor by adjusting his posture.[6]
- According to Kumaki in a stage greeting, the future Minato in Kamen Rider Gotchard: The Future Daybreak was captured and tortured after refusing to reveal the hideout where the future Houtaro and his friends were taking refuge, gaining a burn mark on the right side of his face. It was at this moment when Alzard decided to copy Minato's appearance to emphasize from his template.[7]
- Minato's full name was never revealed, making it unknown whether "Minato" is his given name or surname.
- Minato is seemingly a mononym as evident by the future Minato's gravestone in The Future Daybreak, as all the other gravestones uses the characters' full names.
