This article is about a Rider in Kamen Rider 555. |
Masato Kusaka (草加 雅人, Kusaka Masato) was a member of Ryusei School who was capable of wearing the Kaixa Gear without disintegrating afterwards and the Gear's primary wearer as Kamen Rider Kaixa (仮面ライダーカイザ, Kamen Raidā Kaiza, Masked Rider Kaixa).
History
Kamen Rider Faiz
Ever since being killed and revived by the Dragon Orphnoch, Kusaka had a history with Orphnochs which fueled his hatred for them. While originally acting friendly towards Takumi Inui, he eventually showed his true colors and his motives were revealed.
Kusaka is the only one to have worn all three of the Kamen Rider belts (Faiz, Kaixa and Delta). He wore the Faiz Gear to trick Yuji Kiba. He wore the Delta Gear to battle the Beetle Orphnochs (Rhinoceros and Stag).
Kusaka had a great deal more Orphnoch DNA implanted into him, allowing him to use the Kaixa gear safely for a time, but near the end of the series, it began to wear off, and using the Kaixa Gear was becoming increasingly harmful to him. In the end, his neck was snapped by Yuji Kiba, who claimed the Kaixa Gear as his own towards the end of the series and dies after all of his Orphnoch DNA ran out causing himself to disintegrate into dust with Takumi and the others being unaware of his death until later when his picture of a young Mari was found. Despite disliking Kusaka's attitude, Takumi showed sorrow for him, understanding that he was in a sense, also a victim of misfortune.

Desperately reaching for the Kaixa Gear, he couldn't move anymore due to his burns and injuries. Faiz went to his side with Kusaka complaining on why Faiz survived while he had someone to protect. Crying out for life, he disintegrated.

Personality
- "Those who don't learn to like me... are just getting in my way!"
- ―Kusaka reveals his dark side towards Takumi[src]
Kusaka is a highly troubled person. Having been forced to live in an orphanage where he was constantly bullied by others, alongside Smart Brain's cruel actions had caused Kusaka to develop a psychotic personality of sorts. Holding an intense hatred towards Orphnochs, he became convinced that they would eventually all become threats to humanity, thus making it his mission to be their executioner.
In general, Kusaka acts politely towards everyone, except for Takumi. This, however, is a facade to hide his true nature as a self-serving, spiteful, vindictive, and skilled manipulator who has no qualms of driving a wedge between Takumi and those around him like Kiba so he can have Mari for himself. This is to the extent of putting Takumi in potentially life-threatening situations at times, not caring whether he caused a person to die.
Kusaka will join any physical routine for testing his strength and often to lap his palms before and after exercising. The reason for this habit is due to being traumatized on the night when he and his fellow students were attacked by Smart Brain, where he had his hands covered with Mari's blood before being killed himself.
Despite his very cruel attitude towards Orphnochs, Kusaka is shown capable of some care for others, if moderately in a twisted manner of sorts. Outright stating that he sees Mari as the mother he had always longed for since childhood, Kusaka is very protective of her, being vindictive against those who harm her.
Aside from Mari, Kusaka displays a level of kindness towards Keitaro and his fellow Ryusei students, due to the time he has spent with them. Furthermore, even after knowing of Hanagata's identity as the Goat Orphnoch, Kusaka clearly felt conflicted at killing the man that he sees as his father, as well as being saddened when he actually did die.
While far from a noble figure, Kusaka did have some morals, at least in regards to his role as a protector of humanity. Alongside his actions as Kaixa, he begrudgingly allowed Takumi and other ally Orphnochs to fight alongside him, if showing little regard to their safety. Another notable aspect is his concern for fellow humans, telling nearby bystanders to run whenever fighting an Orphnoch.
Tragically, Kusaka's complete inability to overcome his painful past becomes his fatal flaw, slowly causing him to slowly destroy his body from using the Kaixa Gear, before getting murdered by his sworn foes.
Fighting Style
Training himself to fight against the Orphnoch force, Kusaka became a highly athletic individual, acting as team captain for the tennis club, fencing club, and horseback riding club of his university. Though capable as both a long-ranged fighter and short-ranged fighter, Kusaka is shown to prefer close-quarter combat, unless piloting his Side Basshar.

Kusaka transformed into Faiz and attacked Yuji Kiba to trick him into thinking Takumi was attacking him, and subsequently to trick Takumi into thinking that Kiba had stolen the Faiz Gear.
Once transformation is completed, the Faiz Armor has several key features in its design to offer protection to the user. Like all Rider gears, the Faiz armor manifests when the Faiz Driver generates Photon Blood, a glowing substance generates the soft Sol Foam suit, Sol Metal armor, and Fullmetal Lung chest armor via traveling through the red Photon Streams that ends at the Photon Terminals at the gauntlets and Power Anklet greaves, the right Anklet having a Energy Holster that the Faiz Pointer can be connected to. The helmet is unique due to its Global Feeler antenna to link up to Smart Brain's networks and Ultimate Finder visor that gives Faiz incredible vision to see in darkness, giving the illusion of a glowing eye, and a limited amount of x-ray vision.
Kamen Rider Faiz's finishing attack is called the Crimson Smash (クリムゾンスマッシュ, Kurimuzon Sumasshu), in which the Faiz Pointer (when mounted on the right leg) generates a crimson energy drill that Faiz uses to kick through an enemy.
Kamen Rider Faiz is composed of the following parts:
- Black Shell Met (ブラックシェルメット, Burakku Sheru Metto) - The head. It is a reinforced helmet developed by Smart Brain, and has a thin shell layer made out of Sol Metal (ソルメタル, Soru Metaru), a supermetal with hardness close to a diamond. An impact absorption bag is installed inside.
- Global Feelers (グローバルフィーラー, Gurōbaru Fīrā) - The antennae. They commuicate with the artificial satellites Eagle Sat (イーグルサット, Īguru Satto) and Hawk Eye (ホークアイ, Hōku Ai) that support Kamen Rider Faiz's systems. They can collect information as well as download new programs.
- Extreme Nose (エクストリームノーズ, Ekusutorīmu Nōzu) - An olfactory organ that artificially creates a sense of smell one million times more potent that humans'. While its sensitivity can be freely adjusted, it typically has the same olfactory powers as a dog.
- Satellite Signal (サテライトシグナル, Sateraito Shigunaru) - The green signal on the face. It blinks mainly when communicating with satellites and when tracking an enemy. A green gauge means stable supply, a blinking green light indicates access, a blinking red light indicates access error, and a red light is flashed when communication is not possible.
- Ultimate Finder (アルティメットファインダー, Arutimetto Faindā) - The visor. It has an ultra-sensitive camera that converts images into electrical signals and conveys them to he wearer. It also has a scope function that allows daylight vision even in the darkness, and an X-ray camera function that allows seeing through objects.
- Photon Terminal (フォトンターミナル, Foton Tāminaru) - The strip running vertically down the middle of the face. It is a junction ballast that connects photon streams. The Photon Blood flowing within the three terminals emits too much energy, so this equipment applies resistance so that the suit itself does not self-destruct, and it supplies power to the whole body in a stable manner. There is another Photon Terminal located on the back.
- Pin Falls Sonar (ピンフォールズソナー, Pin Fōruzu Sonā) - Extremely sensitive audio devices that can hear a needle fall from 5km away. The sensitivity can be freely changed according to the wearer's will.
- Extreme Regulator (エクストリームレギュレーター, Ekusutorīmu Regyurētā) - The mouthpiece. It is an oxygen supply device for the wearer. It enables activities in harsh environment where there is extremely little oxygen such as water or toxic gases.
- Neck Shield (ネックシールド, Nekku Shīrudo) - The neck. it is made out of Sol Metal 315 (ソルメタル315, Soru Metaru 315), a special type of Sol Metal that combines hardness and softness. There are countless capillary cables running inside it that protects the neck from external shocks. The cables also serve to transmit information between the suit and the Black Shell Met.
- Full Metal Lung (フルメタルラング, Furu Metaru Rangu) - The chest armor. It has a structure in which two shock absorbing bags are sandwiched between four layers of Sol Metal, allowing the heavy armor to repel tank fire. An oxygen tank is built in.
- Sol Foam (ソルフォーム, Soru Fōmu) - The reinforced bodysuit. It is knitted with ultrafine metal threads of Sol Metal 315 that combines hardness and softness. Additionally, the surface is coated with silver coating.
- Spin Pad (スピンパッド, Supin Paddo) - Protective pads located on the back. They protect the spine and the Photon Stream from any impacts from behind. If need be, it becomes an airbag.
- Spin Connector (スピンコネクタ, Supin Konekuta) - The back of the Faiz Driver connects to the wearer's spine via an myriad of capillary cables. There is no pain during connection due to the usage of ultrafine needles.
- Photon Stream (フォトンストリーム, Foton Sutorīmu) - The red lines running all over the body. It is an energy flow path that contains the fluid energy Photon Blood (フォトンブラッド, Foton Buraddo), which is red for Faiz. Every suit developed by Smart Brain has Photon Blood, each one with a different color.
- Power Fingers (パワーフィンガー, Pawā Fingā) - The fingers. They have enough strength to break a 30cm steel plate yet are delicate enough to operate the Faiz Phone.
- Metal Intercooler (メタルインタークーラー, Metaru Intākūrā) - Grey metal plates installed at the back of the head, shoulders and back sections. They are heat dissipation units that release excess heat emitted by the Photon Blood. As most of the electronics are located in the helmet, a large Metal Intercooler is placed at the back of it.
- Knee Folders (ニーフォルダー, Nī Forudā) - The knees. They are made out of Sol Metal 228 (ソルメタル228, Soru Metaru 228), which is even harder than regular Sol Metal. It consists of two metal boards and one shock absorber. Due to its hardness, they can be used as striking weapons.
- Flex Bellows (フレックスベロウズ, Furekkusu Berouzu) - The lower legs. They are bellows (air bag devices) for shock absorption.
- Energy Holster (エナジーホルスター, Enajī Horusutā) - A holster on the lower right leg. It is an energy amplification terminal that is used to mount the Faiz Pointer whenever Faiz wishes to execute the Crimson Smash Rider Kick attack.
- Power Anklets (パワーアンクレット, Pawā Ankuretto) - The ankle armor. They are control terminals that concentrates power onto the legs when kicking. In addition, the Flex Bellows that surrounds the calf absorbs the intense impact when kicking.

Kamen Rider Delta's finishing attack is called the Lucifer's Hammer (ルシファーズハンマー, Rushifāzu hanmā) this finisher is execute when the Photon Stream is shot from the Delta Mover and when it connects, it stuns the adversary, in which the Rider executes either a bicycle kick or a front dropkick into the stream, causing the enemies's destruction.
The Delta Armor has several key features in its design. Unlike the Gear, the armor only exists after the wearer transforms.
- Photon Blood - A glowing substance that provides all of the Rider’s powers and generates all of the physical features of the armor. The Photon Blood is generated from the Delta Driver.
- Sol Foam/Metal - Soft parts of the armor are made of Sol Foam, and the hard parts are made of Sol Metal 228. This substance is generated by the Delta Driver to form complex machinery that is powered by Photon Blood. If the Foam or Metal are damaged, the armor switches off and resets itself.
- Ultimate Finder (アルティメットファインダー, Arutimetto Faindā) - The large eyepieces of the Rider give them 180 degrees anterior field of view. They also allow the wearer to have night vision and X-ray vision.
- Global Feeler: The antenna on the Rider’s head can be used to communicate with the Smart Brain Satellite and the Smart Brain computer network.
- Demon's Slate (デモンズ・スレート ) - A strengthening device located directly on the triangle part of the chestplate. It forcibly raises the frequency of the gamma brain waves to increase the wearer's fighting instincts. However, it can change the wearer's personality and cause mental breakdown over prolonged usage.
- Full Metal Lung (フルメタルラング, Furu Metaru Rangu) - The vest armor of the Rider provides the most protection, being able to withstand Anti-tank weaponry. There is also an oxygen tank attached that can provide up to three hours of oxygen.
- Photon Stream (フォトンストリーム, Foton Sutorīmu) - The path that the Photon Blood travels through the Rider’s armor. In Delta, this path is blue when transforming, white after transformation.
- Photon Terminal (フォトンターミナル, Foton Tāminaru) - Where the Photon Streams connect with the gauntlets and greaves. It is twice as strong as Kamen Rider Faiz and Kamen Rider Kaixa's. It has three terminals connected that emit a lot of energy, so this equipment has resistors along the stream so that the suit itself does not self-destruct, and it supplies power to the whole body in a stable manner. There is another Photon Terminal located on the back.
- Power Anklets (パワーアンクレット, Pawā Ankuretto) - The ankle armor.
- Flex Bellows (フレックスベロウズ, Furekkusu Berouzu) - They surround the calves as a shock absorbing air bag to protect the legs from the intense impact when kicking or from falling.
- Photon Muzzle (フォトンマズル ) - They are control terminals that releases concentrated Photon Blood onto the sole of the foot when kicking. The opening is in the shape of the letter "Δ".

Memes
- A recurring element in Kamen Rider 555 involves various scenes where Masato Kusaka displays a disturbing smile, revealing his sinister nature. This has been coined by fans and Kohei Murakami as the Kusaka Smile (草加スマイル, Kusaka Sumairu). The character would continue to perform this smile across various post-555 content such as Zi-O episode 6.5 and Kamen Rider 555 20th: Paradise Regained.
- According to Murakami himself, the Kusaka Smile was inspired by Jack Nicholson's performance in The Shining.[10]
- A meme holiday many Kamen Rider fans on the internet partake in is called "Kaixa Day", which takes place on September 13 (A play on the Kaixa Phone's transformation keycode [9-1-3]). The fans partake in a celebration of what an "irredeemable jerk" Kusaka is and do various posts on forums that make fun of or celebrate the character.[11]
- To commemorate the said day, on September 13, 2015, Kusaka's actor Kohei Murakami appeared as a guest in a Kamen Rider outdoor stageshow to show off his transformation pose dedicated to his fans.

Conception
Notes
- Masato Kusaka is the only character in the series to use all 3 Rider Gears at least once, becoming three different Kamen Riders.
- The original plan was for Kusaka to meet his demise in the final arc. Actor Kohei Murakami consulted with writer Toshiki Inoue about his character's fate. When Inoue asked whom he wouldn't want Kusaka to be killed by, Murakami chose "Kiba," resulting in the character's demise at his hands. Murakami later admitted regret for his honesty, feeling he should have suggested either Takumi or a dramatic showdown against Hanagata and Kitazaki instead.[12][13]
