This article is about a/an rider in Kamen Rider Kiva.

Masao Kurenai (紅 正夫 Kurenai Masao) is the second Kamen Rider Kiva (仮面ライダーキバ Kamen Raidā Kiba, Masked Rider Kiva)[1][2][3], is a Kamen Rider appearing at the finale of Kamen Rider Kiva.

Character History

He is the son of Wataru Kurenai, resembling Otoya Kurenai. Coming from 2031, 22 years in the future, he comes back in time to ask his father's help to fight the Neo-Fangire (ネオファンガイア Neo Fangaia) menace that are making their way into the present.

Personality

A seemingly free-spirited character with a cheerful personality, Masao acts rather like a carefree teenager compared to his (initially) rather quiet and shy father. His personality somewhat resembles his grandfather Otoya.

Family

  • Wataru Kurenai - Father/Kamen Rider Kiva
  • Unknown - Mother
  • Taiga Nobori - Half-Uncle/Kamen Rider Saga/Kamen Rider Dark Kiva
  • Otoya Kurenai - Grandfather/Kamen Rider Proto-Ixa (later Kamen Rider Dark Kiva)
  • Maya - Grandmother/Pearlshell Fangire

Video Game appearances

Kamen Rider Battle: Ganbarizing

Masao makes his video game debut in Kamen Rider Battle: Ganbarizing as part of the expansion set Best Match 4, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Kamen Rider Kiva. Kouhei Takeda reprises his role in this game.

Forms

Through the orange colored Kivat-bat the 4th and the Kiva Belt, Masao assumes a Kiva Form identical to his father's. It is plausible that he can use the powers of the Wolfen, Merman and Franken like his father as he seems to have the Fuestles for them. In theory, if Masao had a way to assume an Emperor Form, the color of the suit would mainly be orange to match Kivat-bat the 4th.

  • Ability parameters
  • Rider height: 200 cm.
  • Rider weight: 98 kg.
    • Punching power: 6 tons
    • Normal kicking power: 8 tons
      • Darkness Moon Break: 30 tons
    • Maximum jump height: 85 meters

Kiva Form (キバフォーム Kiba Fōmu) is Kiva's default form, accessed through a bite from Kivat, who`s status determines Kiva's ability in a battle. He is also able to see in the dark with his visor called the Omnilens (オムニレンズ Omunirenzu). In this form, Kiva can use any of the Fuestles, with the Wake Up Fuestle to open up the Catena Chains on his left leg known as the Hell's Gate (ヘルズゲート Heruzu Gēto) made of Lucifer Metal (ルシファーメタル Rushifā Metaru) so Kiva can use his Darkness Moon Break (ダークネスムーンブレイク Dākunesu Mūn Bureiku) attack. The kick has an impact of 30,000 kg., enough to leave a crater in the shape of a bat's wings (Kiva's insignia) on any surface upon contact; the glass body of a Fangire shatters almost instantly.

Kiva can also perform a stronger variation of the Darkness Moon Break when engulfed in Castle Doran's fire. When the Darkness Moon Break is performed, day turns into night and a crescent moon appears in the sky.

Equipment

Kivat Belt

His Kivat Belt also known as Kivat-bat the 4th is a belt that is very much the same as the other incarnations of Kiva. The belt carries the same number of Fuestles as the original Kivat Belt.

Behind the Scenes

Portrayal

Masao Kurenai is portrayed by Kouhei Takeda, who previously portrayed as Otoya Kurenai and later Kazumi Sawatari in Build.

Notes

  • Since Masao is the son of Wataru and the nephew of Taiga, that would technically make him the prince of Fangires.
  • Masao shares some similarities with Kotaro Nogami.
    • They are the new version of the main Rider.
    • They are descendants of the main Rider.
    • Their rider forms are recolors of their father’s (grandfather in Kotaro's case) primary rider forms (Sword Form and Kiva).
  • His appearance is a deliberate homage to Marty McFly, the main hero of the Back to the Future film franchise.
