Mackenyu Maeda (前田真剣佑 Maeda Makkenyu), currently known under the stage name Mackenyu Arata (新田 真剣佑 Arata Makken'yū), is a Japanese-American actor and model affiliated with Top Coat Entertainment. He portrayed Eiji Tomari in Kamen Rider Drive: Surprise Future.
Mackenryu was born in the Los Angeles area to famous actor Sonny Chiba. As a child he took gymnastics, swimming, and piano lessons. He also practiced karate and won a competition.
In 2014, he relocated to Japan to pursue his acting career.
In 2017, he was cast in the American film Pacific Rim: Uprising.
- His father is actor Sonny Chiba. His uncle Jirō Chiba, portrayed Kazuya Taki in the original Kamen Rider series.
- Mackenryu chose Arata as his stage surname after starring as Arata Wataya in the live-action film adaptation of the manga series Chihayafuru. Taking inspiration from his character and with the permission of the manga's original author, he changed his stage name.
- Mackenryu is fluent in both English and Japanese. English was his first language, and learned Japanese from speaking it at home.
