The Kiwami Project (極プロジェクト, Kiwami Purojekuto, lit. "Extreme Project") was an expedition team sent out by the Institute of Space Engineering Technology to explore the planet Mars. However upon returning, the general public were unaware that the entire crew (save for Shinobu Katsuragi) had been individually possessed by aliens known as the Blood Tribe, who have been silently working behind the scenes to ignite a war and eventually cause the destruction of the Earth.
