This article is about a Rider in Kamen Rider Geats. |
- "You could change the world if you put your heart into it."
- ―Kekera's encouraging words to Keiwa.[src]
Kekera (ケケラ ) is an audience member of the Desire Grand Prix and Keiwa Sakurai's supporter who transforms into Kamen Rider Kekera (仮面ライダーケケラ, Kamen Raidā Kekera).
Later on, he is given a Black Raise Riser Card from Zitt to become Premium Kekera (プレミアムケケラ, Puremiamu Kekera).
History
Background
Kekera was born sometime in the distant future and became an audience member of the Desire Grand Prix, having acquired a Laser Raise Riser in the process. He began supporting Keiwa Sakurai while taking the form of a frog statue that amplified his voice, and supplied the Boost Buckle to the young man multiple times.
Divergence Arc
Kekera, in his frog form, made his first on-screen appearance during the Jyamar Ball game where he provided Keiwa access to the Command Jet Buckle via secret mission. When he invited Keiwa to his audience room to talk to him personally he has showed his disappointment in Keiwa for not utilizing the Boost Buckle he provided him in previous games.
Later, Kekera made a physical appearance alongside Kyuun and Ziin to fight against Beroba, though they were unsuccessful in retrieving the stolen Vision Driver.
Lamentation Arc
to be added
Yearning Arc
Kekera made yet another physical appearance in his human form, appearing at the site of Chirami's demise and picking up the dropped Vision Driver. Afterwards, he approached Beroba and made a deal with her to resurrect Keiwa Sakurai with the Vision drivers. In return, Kekera would use Keiwa as a display of misery for Beroba's enjoyment, to which Beroba agreed. Kekera later appeared before Keiwa's sister Sara, telling her to join the Desire Royale to protect the recently resurrected Keiwa, to which she agreed, and joined the Desire Royale as Kamen Rider Hakubi.
Later, Kekera and Beroba approached Archimedel with yet another deal- to target and eliminate Sara, and they would resurrect all of the dead Jyamato. Archimedel agreed, but was later killed by Geats and Buffa, much to Kekera and Beroba's disappointment. More news followed when Ziin approached the two and informed them of the Grand End's approach, to which Kekera entered another bargain, with him and Beroba giving up their Vision Driver's to Ziin after they had made a final wish to the Goddess. Kekera later spectated Tycoon and Buffa's battle, commenting that Keiwa should show him a good time.
Genesis Arc
After the world was remade by Geats becoming the new God of Genesis, he begins to take more steps to turn Keiwa into his ideal Rider, working with Daichi to make this a reality. He aids in Daichi's plans to get Sara killed in order to turn Keiwa into his ideal Rider. Once Keiwa is consumed with vengeance and obtained Bujin Sword Raise Buckle from Tsumuri, Kekera continues to watch as his masterpiece is slowly become exactly what he envisioned as the True Kamen Rider. While Daichi was battling Keiwa, Daichi pleads to him to help him but Kekera stays out of the fight, saying he is more entertained than before, and that Daichi sacrifice will finalize the step of Keiwa growth. However, before Keiwa can finish off Daichi, Ace intervenes and saves him. This causes Kekera to be irritated that the show was ruined just as it was getting good.
After Keiwa gets his wish, he sees opportunity as Keiwa lost his whole family again from Gang Riders Killing Spree and gaslight him to get Keiwa to continue to be his dark hero who fights for his entertainment, convincing him to continue to fight for Zitt to get his wish to see his family revived. He done this by appointing Keiwa as the Leader of Gang Riders after the latter defeats Kirito Asari. As events unfold though, Kekera decides to get more involved and aides Beroba in getting access to Daichi's Tree of Knowledge. He watches from the sidelines as Beroba is defeated by Michinaga and attempts to go in and finish him, but Keiwa shoves him out of the way and protects Michinaga. He asks Keiwa about his previous path, only for Keiwa to tell him that his image of him was just his manipulation and he won't be strung along by his words anymore. Annoyed by the sudden face-heel turn, Kekera promises that Keiwa will get a "bad end" that he deserves for ruining his fun.
Thus, Kekera finally employed his endgame plan to humiliate Keiwa, and disown his status as a Kamen Rider in front of the public. After making a wish to Black Tsumuri to turn every Kamen Rider excluding Keiwa into objects, thus rendering them unable to become Kamen Riders, he confronted Keiwa and Sara, and transformed into Premium Kekera. This prompted Daichi to transform into the Marrella Jyamato to save Sara, although he ended up defeated by Kekera. Kekera then teleported both Daichi and Keiwa to a warehouse for the next phase of his game.
There, Kekera held three people hostage, at mercy from several caged Pawn Jyamatos, and introduced Keiwa in a somehow humiliating manner to the civilians. Predictably, Keiwa transformed into Tycoon Ninja Form to save the hostages, only to be held at bay by Kekera using his special territory, which comprised of several bubbles each containing an explosive force. Kekera easily defeats Keiwa and mocked him to write his wish to save the hostages into a Desire Card, justifying his actions by exclaiming that sacrificing people happiness is fine as long as Keiwa wish get fulfilled. Keiwa refuses to do so, claiming that he's done sacrificing other people happiness for his own. Kekera then continues to mock Keiwa that he alone cannot save the world as he revealed the Jyamatos whose finally freed from their cage and about to consume the hostages. Fortunately, Daichi use his Jyamato authority to control the Pawn Jyamatos to free the hostages instead.
Keiwa, who's by now renewed his vow to Ace then transforms again into Tycoon Ninja Form and successfully put Kekera into the corner. Kekera laughed and reluctantly claimed that the current Tycoon now have the vibe of a 'True Kamen Rider', although he exclaimed that as long Keiwa had his desires, it will overtake him again. Once again, Keiwa refuses to do Kekera's bidding as he exclaimed that the way to use his power is for himself to decide and that he's done following through Kekera's hobby, then transforming into Tycoon Bujin Sword before delivering a Rider Kick to Kekera, finally defeating him.
- "Well said, Keiwa Sakurai!"
- ―Kekera before his demise.[src]
Staggering upon his defeat, Kekera warned Keiwa that he won't have the rest of his life easy as a Kamen Rider. Instead of refusing said statement, Keiwa thanked Kekera for allowing him to be a Kamen Rider in the first place, and that Kekera gives him the necessary power to uphold the world peace. Satisfied with his idol's answer, Kekera laughed and praised Keiwa one last time before he disintegrated as data, and returned to the future.
Personality
Kekera seems to be a hot-headed person, as he almost likes to shout to his supporting rider. Despite being a supporter of a different rider, Kekera can be friendly to other supporters like Ziin. Kekera seems to be supportive for Keiwa, even to the point of giving him the Boost Buckle in multiple occasions. However, he won't hesitate to call out Keiwa when his performance disappoints him, such as being when the latter overly trusted and got himself backstabbed by Daichi Isuzu. Kekera is also quite controlling of Keiwa's life and behavior, imposing his belief of an ideal hero by lecturing him frequently, giving him such advice as to stop being nice to others. Moreover, it's later revealed that Kekera has no qualms trying to manipulate Keiwa's life in order to push him toward being the hero Kekera wants.
As time goes on, it's revealed that the ideal of a hero that Kekera so forcefully pushes Keiwa to become is that of a tragic warrior who hides their pain behind a mask. Kekera also firmly believes that the happiness in the world is finite, and constantly encourages Keiwa to sacrifice others to save his family, supporting his extreme methods. Despite Kekera being responsible for much of the recent suffering in Keiwa's life, Kekera still claims that Keiwa owes him. When Keiwa renounces his recent vindictive persona and returns to his kind-hearted self, Kekera insists that his actions raised Keiwa from zero to hero. After Keiwa rejects this claim and declares he will never be manipulated by Kekera again, Kekera becomes enraged and vengeful, promising Keiwa that he will suffer, by making a game to prove his point that happiness is finite, forcing Keiwa to choose between saving his hostages or Ace Ukiyo. Keiwa manages to prove this belief wrong, through his alliance with Daichi who controls the Jyamato to free the hostages instead, saving them without the cost of petrifying Ace, which actually earns him Kekera's respect to some degree, feeling proud to duke it out with his favorite, and later telling Keiwa that the life of a Rider is not easy moments before his disintegration.
It is later revealed that Kekera's motivation into pushing and molding Keiwa into the character of his "ideal hero" is primarily for his own entertainment, showing a calculative side to his behavior. When Keiwa was killed by Michinaga Azuma, Kekera expressed his sadness and disappointment, noting his inability to laugh at the moment. Despite that him and Beroba were brief enemies beforehand, he was willing to make a deal with her to bring Keiwa back. Him and Beroba grow to be closer partners when it's revealed that both enjoy the misery of others, though in contrast to her, Kekera believes that humanity can only develop when they're pushed on brink, causing suffering to others in the name of developing them. It's demonstrated in him manipulating Keiwa's sister Sara into becoming a Rider, all to set the stage for a character redefining moment. He also has no qualms backing up people like Daichi Isuzu for his own excitement to have Keiwa beat him up later as a "proof" of his ideal hero, showing that he only views the current era's people as a source of entertainment, like other supporters.
When he shows up in his human form, Kekera tends to make exaggerated movements. Additionally, whenever someone asks who he is, Kekera just responds with him being "him" without giving any context.

Behind the Scenes
Portrayal
Kekera is portrayed by Mitsutoshi Shundo (俊藤 光利, Shundō Mitsutoshi), who previously portrayed Yukihiro Ohno in Kamen Rider W Returns: Kamen Rider Accel and Makoto Shido in Kamen Rider Amazons.
Kamen Rider Kekera is not portrayed by a traditional suit actor, but rather generated using on-screen CGI. Premium Kekera is suit-acted by Kai Kitamura (北村 海, Kitamura Kai).
Etymology
Kekera's name is derived from kerakera (ケラケラ ), a Japanese onomatopoeia for laughter.
Dub names
- In the Korean dub of Kamen Rider Geats, which aired in South Korea, Kekera is renamed Kekela (케켈라 kekella), while her Rider designation is Kamen Rider Kekela (가면라이더 케켈라 gamyeonlaideo kekella).
Notes
- Kamen Rider Kekera's CGI model is modified from Kamen Rider Shinobi's Kurogane Oogama, coincidentally matching Tycoon's ninja motif.
- Kekera is the only DGP supporter whose animal motif does not match that of the Rider he supports. However both ninjas and frogs are associated with the folktale Katakiuchi Kidan Jiraiya Monogatari, in which Jiraiya is a ninja with frog-based powers.
- Of all the four supporter Riders, Kekera has used his default Rider form the least, having only used it once, while the other supporters had transformed at least twice. Additionally, he also holds the record of being transformed into a Kamen Rider for the shortest amount of time, recorded at 26 seconds.
