Kamen Rider: Genealogy of Justice (仮面ライダー正義の系譜, Kamen Raidā Seigi no Keifu, Masked Rider: Justice Lineage) is a 3D action-fighting crossover video game developed by Cavia and published by Banpresto exclusively for the PlayStation 2 console. It features Kamen Riders 1, 2, V3, Black, and Agito as the main protagonists. [1]

Gameplay[]

The square and circle buttons are respectively used for punching and kicking, with the X button used to perform jumps. The triangle button is used to interact with the environment, with the L2 and R2 buttons used to evade by also moving the analog stick. The player can also deal damage when enemies surround them by using the R1 button and pressing square or circle. Finishers can only be used in Rider Form and when there is an enemy on screen. If your energy gauge is depleted, the player will revert to human form; one can also manually transform back by pressing L1 and R1 simultaneously.

The game utilizes a "Resident Evil" style format of running around in a set environment (a power-plant/Shocker's base), where the player must traverse the landscape, while picking up necessary items to open locked doors and progress through the stage. Throughout the adventure, the player will be pestered by many recognizable combatmen, and will have to defeat some of them in order to advance.

Also included in the game are driving areas, usually beginning with the Rider being chased by Shocker's motorcyclists while obstacles appear. This scene features the camera facing the Rider head on, so the obstacles will appear in front of the Rider, making it tricky to dodge.

The second area involves the Rider dodging various stationary traps, usually spikes or mines, in a traditional motorcycle game style, where the camera is viewing behind the Rider. Also included here is Kamen Rider 1's "mini game" of smashing into Red Shocker Combatmen, which utilizes the same format, though now the Rider can attack via pressing the square button to spin the Cyclone around.

Character finishers[]

Each Kamen Rider can execute a select set of finishers based on the red energy gauge's level, with Level 3 finishers being the strongest and Level 1 being standard finishers. Agito can very briefly become Burning or Shining Form to execute his Level 3 attacks depending on which attack is selected.

Due to Black having a very limited move set in his TV series, the game developers created some new attacks exclusively for the game.

Level 1:

  • Black Chop - A weaker version of Black's Rider Chop
  • King Stone Flash - A small burst of energy is released from the King Stone.
  • Black Punch - A weaker version of Black's Rider Punch, a simple straight punch.
  • Rider Kick (First version) - Black's original Rider Kick he used during the earlier episodes of his TV series.

Level 2:

  • Rider Chop
  • Rider Power Flash - Black charges power from his King Stone as several points on his body glow when he leaps into the air, he then presses down on his belt and releases an electrified burst of energy from the King Stone at close range.
  • Rider Punch
  • Rider Black Kick - Black's improved Rider Punch-Kick combo attack. Black punches the target, lands on the ground and then quickly executes his Kick.

Level 3:

  • Rider Double Chop - Black charges a larger amount of power from the King Stone, he jumps and tucks his knees to gain forward momentum as his hand glows in crackling magenta energy.  He then rapidly strikes the target with two karate chops, one vertical and one horizontal.
  • Rider Kick-Flash combo - Black Rider Kicks the target, spring boards off the enemy as energy crackles around his body and then fires a powerful Kingstone Flash energy attack at close range.
  • Rider Double Punch
  • Rider Return Kick - Black does his improved variation of his Rider Kick, then bounces off the enemy and strikes again with a second kick.

Continuity and Placement[]

Linking four Kamen Rider Series through time travel, Seigi no Keifu establishes designated time zones.

  • Kamen Rider: Takes place in November 1972, during the Double Riders' battle against Gel Shocker. After unlocking the earlier outfits for Riders 1 and 2, the player can choose to start their storyline in January 1972 instead.
  • Kamen Rider V3: Takes place in January 1974, while V3 and Riderman are fighting Destron's monsters led by General Yoroi.
  • Kamen Rider Black: Takes place in August 1988, two months following the emergence of Shadow Moon.
  • Kamen Rider Agito: Takes place in April 2004, three months following the fall of the Unknown. It should be noted, however, that there exists a dating conflict between Agito (2001-02) and its immediate predecessor Kamen Rider Kuuga (2000-01); while Agito is said to take place two years following the end of the conflict against the Unidentified Lifeforms seen in Kuuga, both series asserted their setting as matching their year of broadcast. In regards to this conflict, Seigi no Keifu would take the side of Kuuga.

After a distortion they simultaneously encounter Evil Eye, Evil Eye states that the space-time is complete and that his servants have finished building his Empire of complete darkness. Rider 1 theories that Evil Eye is the one who created the aurora and revived the monsters, with Agito questioning how they can defeat something with that much power. V3 says that the first thing to do is to defeat the enemies in front of them. Rider 1 is at first taken aback by the unsurmountable odds, with Black stating that failure is unforgivable. Chapter 6: The Final Battle[]

After the defeat of the "Four Commanders", the four Riders discuss how to destroy Evil Eye. Kamen Rider 1 is informed that they need to input codes for every era, to break the Evil Eye containment machine. The Riders then input the codes for every era.

After the Riders input the codes, Kamen Rider 1 destroys Evil Eye. Kamen Rider V3 and Kamen Rider Black see Evil Eye fade away from history from inside his container. Notes[]

  • Agito was called Kamen Rider by Semiminga and Shouichi was confused about being called a 'Kamen Rider'. This is most likely because the name is never mentioned during their series, "Agito" and "Gills" are the only names they go by, besides their civilian names.
  • Although Kamen Rider 1 represents the 1972 timeline, he is temporarily replaced by Kamen Rider 2 following Hongo's incapacitation. Gameplay-wise, the two Riders are identical in attacks. After control of Kamen Rider 1 is resumed, Rider 2 is unplayable for the remainder of the game. After beating the game once, Rider 1's "Sakurajima" costume and Rider 2's original costume are made selectable at the start of a new game, which changes their time placement from November 1972 to January of that year. Despite the fact this changes Rider 1's belt color to white, the belt will still appear red when worn by Hongo. He also continues to wear the same clothing as with his newer outfit, even though the leather jacket and jeans outfit would not be worn by him until the Gel Shocker era of the original series, which takes place long after he got his newer form.
    • This also may have been intentionally designed into the story of the game as a nod to the original series, in which Hiroshi Fujioka (Takeshi Hongo/Kamen Rider 1) would get replaced by Takeshi Sasaki (Hayato Ichimonji/Kamen Rider 2) as the lead character for a portion of the show after he was incapacitated before being given the leading role back.
  • Whether or not this game is part of the Rider series' continuities is debated among fans as it features 4 different Rider Series in a timeline and the present day takes place after the events of Kamen Rider Agito (2001).
  • Those who pre-ordered the game when it was released received a limited edition Kamen Rider 1 metal wristwatch, modeled on the Typhoon belt.
