Kamen Rider: Climax Scramble Zi-O (仮面ライダークライマックススクランブルジオウ, Kamen Raidā Kuraimakkusu Sukuranburu Jiō), known internationally as Kamen Rider Climax Scramble, is a Japanese fighting game developed by Lancarse and Bandai Namco Entertainment exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. Serving as the sequel to Kamen Rider: Climax Fighters, it is the second installment of the Climax Fighters reboot and the seventh overall installment of the Kamen Rider: Climax series. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the franchise, the game features all the Riders within the Heisei-era that ended with Zi-O as playable characters.

Along with the original Japanese release, an English localization of the game was released to several Asian countries with English subtitles. A Korean localization published by Daewon Media in South Korea was released coupled with a Korean-dub. A Chinese localization was also released in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Story[]

A mysterious ring of 270 diameters appeared in the sky, and both Kamen Rider Zi-O Sougo Tokiwa and Kamen Rider Geiz Geiz Myokoin head to investigate.

Chapter 1 Reunion with the Genius Physicist[]

Episode 1[]

Zi-O and Geiz reached the edge of the ring, while Zi-O is laid back about the investigation, Geiz still remains on guard. They find a spacetime rift, and Kamen Rider Build Sento Kiryu exists. Build attacks them and is defeated, Zi-O is shocked that Build is attacking them while Geiz is doubting if he's really Build. Build confirms he's the real deal, and while Zi-O is talking to Geiz, Build escapes into thin air. Zi-O is certain that if he's after them they will meet again, with Geiz correcting him that they won't be "meeting him again" but "getting attacked by him again."

Episode 2[]

Zi-O tells Geiz that they should go back, and that he's very hungry. Geiz replies that he's going to check things out, and that Zi-O can back first if he wants. Zi-O leaves which left Geiz in disbelief, Zi-O quickly returns which shocks Geiz. Zi-O tells Geiz he wanted to go back but ran into trouble, Kamen Rider Cross-Z Ryuga Banjo arrives which again shocks Geiz. Zi-O tells Geiz that he is also after them, and they are then attacked by Cross-Z. After defeating him Cross-Z states that he'll need to work with Build to beat them, he also revealed that both Build and him are from a different time. Cross-Z retreats vowing to come back with Build and defeat them. Geiz reminds Zi-O that Cross-Z will be with Build so it will be a 2-on-2 battle, this makes Zi-O excited for the tag match which he is actually starting to enjoy all this fighting.

Secret[]

Zi-O asks Geiz why they are so far out, and why they aren't investigating the ring. Geiz tells Zi-O that he can't stand to watch Zi-O fight so recklessly, so they are going to have special training before they continue the investigation. Zi-O is surprised with the special training and starts joking around, with Geiz saying that he doesn't want himself to get hindered by Zi-O. Zi-O is exhausted after the special training, Geiz says that Zi-O seems dissatisfied and can just stay here to watch over the spacetime rift. Zi-O states that he's not dissatisfied, he's tired, with Geiz telling him he still has a long way to go. Zi-O jokingly tells Geiz that he's acting like an old man, with Geiz replying angrily that it's for his own good.

Episode 3[]

Zi-O and Geiz re-encounter Build and Cross-Z, with Cross-Z telling Zi-O he should resign himself to fighting them. Zi-O asks Geiz why they won't call them by their names, with Geiz thinking there's definitely something fishy going on. Build tells them they were sent to this time to defeat them, and they he can't confirm or deny their suspicions. Cross-Z tells Build to form a tag-team with him so that they could defeat them, after being defeated Build and Z-Cross let out screams as black light flows from them and into the ground. After introducing themselves Geiz asks if they remember attacking them with Build replying that he can't remember anything, Cross-Z can't remember anything either though he does recall seeing a black light when he was right outside Nascita, Build also recalls this light but says it was white. They deduce that the shadow is the culprit which sent them through time after them, Sento and Ryuga are surprised to find out that they've time traveled. Build wonders why this happened with all the time travel, the shadow, and why their memories were manipulated, while Cross-Z is disappointed to find out he only time traveled a year into the future. Zi-O suggest that Geiz take them back to 2017 with his Time Mazine, which gets Build excited at the idea of studying it. Geiz refuses with all that's happening in this time they have more important thing to do, Build agrees to stay a while and Cross-Z angrily calls Build a "mad scientist".

Chapter 2 Kings, Riders, and Ghosts[]

Episode 4[]

Zi-O tells Geiz that Build and Cross-Z were going to take a look at their hideout, Geiz thinks different people will be there due to a time paradox. Following the Ring they encounter another rider, Kamen Rider OOO Eiji Hino. After defeating 000 he retreats telling them things will be different next time, Zi-O confirms that like Build and Z-Cross he's on a mission to defeat them. Geiz wonders what is going on with Zi-O asking Geiz if 000 also traveled from the past, Geiz says it's too soon to tell, and they will have a chance next time they fight.

Episode 5[]

Zi-O tells Geiz that they should take a break with Geiz replying that they shouldn't dawdle, Zi-O tells Geiz that 000 wouldn't fight them in a shopping mall. They encounter 000 and Geiz notices that behind 000 is a space time rift like the one that was with Build. Kamen Rider Birth Akira Date arrives and helps 000 against Zi-O and Geiz, after being defeated 000 and Birth wake up with no idea where they are. 000 and Birth are shocked to see the other, Birth asks Zi-O and Geiz what happened. Zi-O asks if they remember anything, Birth was on his way to the Kougami Foundation when he saw a white shadow, while 000 remembers going to buy ice cream for Ankh when he saw a black shadow. Geiz says that it's exactly what happened to Build and ZCross-Z, 000 asks if there were others that experienced the same. It's confirmed that both affected groups went after Zi-O and Geiz, Birth couldn't remember anything and 000 remembers that after seeing the shadowy light, he felt his mind being read. Geiz confirms that Riders lose their memories after seeing the shadowy light, their memories are rewritten with ones that compel them to attack Zi-O and Geiz. Zi-O speculates that the black light that's sucked into the ground is the overwritten memories. 000 and Birth agree to help and Geiz says that he can't use his time machine since they don't want the enemy to escape. So, 000 and Birth will stay behind to deal with the enemies' coming from the rift while Zi-O and Geiz goes off to help the other mind-controlled Riders.

Secret[]

Zi-O asks 000 why he continues to be a Kamen Rider, with 000 replying that he wants to meet someone. 000 asks Zi-O why he is a Kamen Rider like Geiz even though Zi-O wants to be a king more then a Rider, Zi-O replies that he wants to make people happy and only a king can do it. When Zi-O mentioned that he's supposedly going to become a Demon Lord in the future, 000 attacks him thinking to defeat him while he can. After fighting they find out 000 was only joking around, that he can tell that Zi-O still continues being a rider even after hearing about a future where he's a Demon Lord. Geiz tells 000 that Zi-O will become the nicest demon king, 000 bids Zi-O good luck with Zi-O saying that 000 will be counted on in his royal cheer squad.

Episode 6[]

Geiz tells Zi-O that 000 and Birth are from 2010, with Zi-O saying that they'll be shocked to find out it's 2018. Geiz says that there's someone picking out Riders from the past and bringing them back to 2018 so as to defeat Zi-O and Geiz. Zi-O says he'll defeat that someone and resolve this incident before becoming a Demon Lord. Geiz tells Zi-O they've arrived since there's a rift in the sky, Zi-O says that it feels like a ghost might pop out at them in this abandoned factory. Kamen Rider Ghost Takeru Tenkuji appears shocking Zi-O, Ghost attacks them with Geiz saying he did not expect an actual ghost. After being defeated Ghost confirms he’s still there since he still feels pain, Zi-O asks Ghost if he saw the shadowy light with Geiz replying it’s no use since Ghost is still brainwashed. Ghost escapes with Zi-O attempting to go after him, Geiz tells him not to since he’ll come after them again so there’s no need to rush.

Episode 7[]

Geiz says that they should continue the investigation, and that there's a space time rift above Daitenku Temple. Ghost appears with Kamen Rider Specter Makoto Fukami, they attack Zi-O and Geiz while Ghost was having trouble with his memories. The Black Light leaves Ghost and Specter after their defeat returning them both to normal. When Ghost recognizes Daitenku Temple, Geiz figures out that their memories are not being overwritten completely. Specter says Ghost's soft spot worked in his favor this time, Ghost apologizes, and Zi-O explains what happened.

Chapter 3 Tale of the Half-Boiled Detective[]

Episode 8[]

Zi-O tells Geiz that Ghost and Specter have accepted that they're in the future, with Geiz replying that it’s understandable since they're riders. Zi-O asks Geiz why they are being targeted, with Geiz telling him it'll make sense once they find out who is sending the riders. As Zi-O tells Geiz he's right since the riders can’t remember anything, they are approached by Kamen Rider Double Shotaro Hidari & Philip. Philip tries to tell Shotaro to stop and that he’s being controlled, Geiz is not sure what is going on as Double attacks. Philip apologizes to Zi-O and Geiz, and after Geiz asks if he’s friend or foe, Philip replies that he’s both. He tells them that Shotaro, the one in control of their body, is under mind control and thinks only of defeating them. Geiz asks Philip if he understands he’s in 2018, Philip replying that it was quite sudden but also fascinating. Philip tries to hold Shotaro back so Zi-O and Geiz can escape, as they leave Philip warns them that Kamen Rider Accel Ryu Terui is also in this time.

Notes[]

  • This is the first game since Kamen Rider: Climax Heroes Fourze to have the most recent Rider's name in the title.
  • This is the first entry in the Climax Heroes series to be an original Nintendo exclusive entry and not ported to or from another console, as the games prior were either console exclusives ported to other consoles with minor expansions to repackage the game or in rare cases multi-platform variants of the same game.
    • A perfect example is Climax Heroes W, the first Nintendo game entry, which was essentially the very first game with a small console exclusive expansion of playable characters, given its development was only 4 months behind the original's release.
  • It is also the first Kamen Rider game to be in an official home/portable console hybrid, which is currently only applied on Nintendo Switch.
  • In the English language pack for this game, Riotroopers are referred to as Lion Troopers. Kurokage Troopers are translated literally as Black Shadow Troopers.
