This article is about a movie in Kamen Rider Revice and Kamen Rider Saber. |
Kamen Rider 50th Anniversary Celebration Film - Kamen Rider: Beyond Generations (仮面ライダー50周年記念映画 仮面ライダー ビヨンド・ジェネレーションズ, Kamen Raidā Gojusshūnen Kinen Eiga - Kamen Raidā: Biyondo Jenerēshonzu) is a Japanese superhero Tokusatsu crossover film between Kamen Rider Revice and Kamen Rider Saber. It is the 12th Movie War and the final installment of the Generations Series while also celebrating the franchise's 50th anniversary.
Production
Development
On December 22, 2020, it was announced by producer Shin-ichiro Shirakura that a large-scale project would launch to commemorate the franchise's 50th Anniversary, with a new Winter film at the time "still in a blank state" but will premiere in the Winter of 2021.[1]
Writing
As the film is a Movie War between Revice and Saber, both shows' respective themes such as family and keeping promises would be present in the film, portrayed through the relationship of the Momose father-son duo, as well as Maito Fujioka's casting as the younger self of his father's iconic role.
Due to the film also releasing during the same year as Saber + Zenkaiger: Superhero Senki, which was also written by Mouri, it was important for him to be able to differentiate both films while ensuring that the spirit of Revice stayed true with the viewers of both the film and the TV series. Rather than trying to explore the past, Mouri wanted to explore the future instead and introduced Century, a Rider from 50 years into the future, allowing the audience a glimpse of what was to come in the franchise.
Filming
While rebuilding Shocker's hideout, there were practically no materials other than old images at time to work with while attempting to do so. The producers felt that it was strange trying to rebuild an old set using new materials in a new era, though ultimately the scene would be integral within the history of Kamen Rider. They made it an effort to replicate as much they could with current technology so that it doesn't feel as poor or parodic.
Due to the large roster of Riders from both representing series as well as the franchise as whole, it was difficult to fit all the Riders in one scene, so the movie features the Riders traveling around the world, allowing each Rider enough spotlight to fight.
Post-Production
On October 20, 2021, the Kamen Rider Winter Film website as well as its official twitter announced the title of the film, Kamen Rider: Beyond Generations. On October 31, 2021, a teaser trailer was released, confirming the returning reprisals of all cast members from Revice and Saber, while revealing the involvement of Shocker as antagonists in the film.[2] On November 6, 2021, the All Kamen Rider Great Voting event was held by the Japanese television station NHK, which revealed a first-look at Kamen Rider Century. On November 24, 2021, Akiyoshi Nakao and Arata Furuta were revealed to have joined the film's cast,[3] while the film's ending theme song was revealed.[4] On November 30, 2021, Toei announced that Maito Fujioka had joined the film's cast.[5] On December 5, 2021, Toei announced that Fumihiko Tachiki, Yoji Ueda, Rica Matsumoto, Toshiyuki Morikawa, Ryusei Nakao and Tessyo Genda had joined the film's cast as the main antagonists.[6]
Synopsis
- "In 2021 Winter... Depicted in a grandiose scale, the blockbuster, will be born."
- ―Teaser announcements[src]
In the year 2021, the Devil of Mystery Diablo, who was sealed away in the Diablo Stamp, was released into the world. In the year 2071, 50 years from now, humanity has been enslaved by devils. Ryunosuke Momose, who transforms into Kamen Rider Century, travels to the year 2021 to defeat Diablo before he can gain the power to rule the world. Ikki Igarashi, Vice, and Touma Kamiyama join forces with Ryunosuke to prevent the uprising of a world soon to be dominated by devils.
Continuity and Placement
- Kamen Rider Revice: The film takes place between Episodes 13 and 14.[note 1]
- Kamen Rider Saber: The film takes place four months after the Special Issue and eight years before the events of Kamen Rider Saber: Trio of Deep Sin.[note 2]
- Kamen Rider: The film features modern retellings of Episodes 1 and 53.
Plot
In an apocalyptic 2071 ruled by demons where humanity is enslaved, a young man named Ryunosuke Momose is rescued by an elderly George Karizaki, who tasks Ryunosuke with using his Cyclotron Driver to time travel his consciousness back to 2021 and save the world. To do so, he must work with his son Hideo from that era and become Kamen Rider Century. Remembering portions of his past, Ryunosuke agrees to do so.
In 2021, the Deadmans have reawakened the demon Diablo alongside his companions, the Crispers, who makes the Deadmans his “kin”. At Happy Spa, after receiving the patronage of Rintaro Shindo, Mei Sudo, Ryo Ogami, and Sora Ogami, whom Ikki met four months prior, Ikki witnesses an argument between Hideo Momose and his son Shinichi. After Hideo drops his work badge, Ikki decides to go to Hideo's workplace to return it.
The Himiko Crisper's attack on both Reika and Ryoga Shindai at the Southern Base attracted the attention of George Karizaki, who sends Daiji Igarashi to scout out a location for him to confirm his suspicions. In response, Rintaro is called to the Northern Base by Sophia to return the Kaenken Rekka to Touma Kamiyama.
As Ikki returns Hideo's badge, Ryunosuke arrives from the future in relief, but is unable to come into physical contact with anything. Diablo arrives and attacks the group, prompting Ikki and his inner demon Vice to transform. Ryunosuke forces Hideo to transform into Kamen Rider Century with him, but they go out of control as Century Break. After retreating with Century Break, Ikki and Vice receive assistance from Touma and Rintaro in returning the Momose father and son to normal.
On George’s request, Daiji scouts out the same base the Deadmans had released Diablo from, discovering the place to be an old Shocker laboratory. George explains that Diablo's stamp was found shortly after Giff's but was stolen by Shocker afterwards, who later deemed Diablo uncontrollable and sealed him away in the same lab. After a singularity was raised in Egypt, Yuri dispatches Ryo and Tetsuo Daishinji there to fight the Khufu Crisper.
Ryunosuke explains he time traveled from the past, to the future, and finally here to the present, but Hideo made it very clear that he didn't want to have anything to do with his father, who left him when he was a child. Rintaro reports that the Edison Crisper has appeared in Easter Island, and sends both Kento Fukamiya and Ren Akamichi there, with the former taking note of the "star" the Cripsers were trying to achieve. George, having become interested in the new "Kamen Rider Century" character, sends Hiromi Kadota and several Fenix soldiers to retrieve him. Diablo then arrives and announces Ryunosuke as his target. Touma holds him off, allowing an opportunity for Ikki to escape with Ryunosuke. Kento, Ren, Ryo, Tetsuo, Ryoga, and Reika all regroup at the Northern Base after a failed attempt at fighting each of their enemies. The Deadmans await at their base hoping the Cripsers and Diablo will bring Giff one step closer to his revival.
After escaping with Ikki, Ryunosuke tells him of his past: he was once a geneticist from 1971 whose work was dismissed because they were "demonic", which led to him being recruited by Shocker to continue his research. He helped them engineer captured humans into Shocker Kaijin, including Takeshi Hongo who famously became the first Kamen Rider. After Takeshi convinced him to use science for good instead, Ryunosuke attempted to escape from Shocker, but was captured and submitted as the first test subject for Diablo. After the demon went out of control and was sealed away, Ryunosuke was put on a ship and sent to drift for eternity, but not before entering a temporal wormhole that brought him to 2071 where he met George and gained the means to time travel.
He explains that Diablo cannot be defeated before his revival nor after gaining his complete form, hence the sole opportunity remained in 2021, while also admitting that this was his punishment for leaving his son in 1971. After Ikki convinced him to try to reconcile properly with Hideo, Ryunosuke's physical body in 2071 was in danger and left unprotected. He brings Ryunosuke to George to work out a plan, which included sending a team (consisting of Touma, Rintaro, Yuri, Vice, Daiji, and Sakura) to guard Ryunosuke's body in the future while several pairs (consisting of Kento, Tetsuo, Ryo, Reika, Ryoga, and Hiromi) fight the Cripsers worldwide. The international team use Book Gate Wonder Ride Books to travel, while the time traveling team is sent to the future using Ryunosuke's Cyclotron Driver. The future team meet the elderly George, who reveals the Clone Rider System he had been developing, allowing the team to use it to fight off the Devil Rider Corps.
While Ryunosuke goes to reconcile with Hideo, Ikki goes to Mount Fuji, where the heart of the star created by the singularities was. Ikki transforms into Revi to fight Diablo alone, but is completely overwhelmed. Ryunosuke and Hideo are able to reconcile and save Ikki in time. Their transformation into the true Kamen Rider Century has ramifications across the timeline, which eradicates the Devil Rider Corps in 2071, and returns both Ryunosuke's body and the future team to 2021, but not before the future George gives Vice the Neo Batta Vistamp. Sakura, Daiji, Rintaro, and Yuri are sent worldwide to help their allies, while Touma stays behind to help Ikki, Vice, and Century fight Diablo.
Century announces that he was created all for the sole purpose of fighting Diablo. After the international teams defeat the Crispers, Touma ascends to Xross Saber, and Revice accesses the new Neo Batta Genome. With their resolve to vanquish evil and change the future, they defeat Diablo for good using a combination of each of their respective Rider Kicks, and Diablo's ritual is canceled completely. With Diablo's defeat, Ryunosuke begins to fade away. While apologizing that he couldn't ride the bullet train with Hideo, Ryunosuke is visited by Takeshi's spirit, who expresses his gratitude towards Ryunosuke for giving birth to the legacy of Kamen Rider. Ryunosuke thanks Ikki and Touma for holding the 50-year long Rider legacy before vanishing from existence. In memory of his father, Hideo rides the bullet train with Shinichi while looking at his father's ticket in his hand.

(歴史を創りし者, 歴史を繋ぐ者, 歴史のすべてを知る者,100年の歴史に、抗え, Rekishi o tsukurishi mono, rekishi o tsunagu mono, rekishi no subete o shiru mono, 100-nen no rekishi ni, aragae.)[17] On November 6, 2021, an additional teaser traitor was released, with the new Rider, Century now being de-silhouetted and marketed as a "contractor from the future."[18]
On November 21, 2021, clips of the film were previewed during the opening theme sequences of Revice starting with Episode 11, while Toei announced a pre-sales campaign for the DX Condor Vistamp used in said episode. On November 24, 2021, the theatrical poster was unveiled with the two catchphrases: "The future, invaded." (未来、襲来, Mirai, shūrai), and "Fight, against 100 years of Kamen Rider." (100年にわたる仮面ライダーの歴史に、抗え, 100-Nen ni wataru Kamen Raidā no Rekishi ni, aragae)[19]

- The film was released on DVD/Blu-Ray on April 27, 2022.
to be added
Errors
- Due to the original background set of the Northern Base being unavailable (having been most likely dismantled since the series' end), interior shots of it are noticeably filmed using chromakey composition. However, there are slight pixelation and noticeable tracking in some of the interior shots due to the background being comprised of images.
- During Rintaro's transformation scene, the Lion Senki Wonder Ride Book's Story Announcement cuts off the beginning part, specifically "Kono".
- When Saber and Blades scan their respective Wonder Ride Books onto their respective Seiken, the books are announced by their full name rather than their short name.
- A brief cut is visible right before the explosion caused by Kamen Rider 1's Rider Kick.
- Kamen Rider Zi-O is labeled "ZIO" in 2071 George's tablet.
- When Sorcerer uses the Big Wizard Ring on two Giff Juniors, the Sorcerer's Belt announces it with the voice from the Wizardriver rather than the Sorcerer's Belt. It should have said "Giant, Now" instead of "Big, Please".
- Lovekov is unexplainably absent during Jeanne's transformed appearances.
- When Espada Golden Alangina prepares his finisher against the Edison Crisper, the small Raimeiken Ikazuchi prop can be seen after Kento pulls it out of the Swordriver before re-inserting it back into the belt.

- This is also the only Movie War with the Kamen Rider Saber series
- Maito Fujioka, the real-life son of Hiroshi Fujioka, portrays Takeshi Hongo in the film. During filming, Hiroshi Fujioka was on set to support his son playing the younger version of his iconic role.
- Century originates from 2071, which is the 100th anniversary of Kamen Rider 1's debut, a theme that is heavily elaborated upon in this film.
- In a blink-and-miss moment, Kamen Rider 1's original outfit can be seen during Takeshi's transformation sequence.
- In a reference to old-school filming techniques from the original series, a dummy Jaguarman can be seen tumbling down the hill as 1 punches him downhill.
- There are slight differences comparing the film's flashbacks to what actually transpired in the original series, though it is mostly a result of a difference in interpretation from the original source material and does not majorly contradict the timeline.
- In the film, Ryunosuke spoke to a captured Takeshi after the Female Combatant brought him into the Shocker base. In the original series, Takeshi lost consciousness the moment he was captured and did not regain it until mid-procedure of the operation.
- In the film, Ryunosuke activated the voltage panel outside of the operating room while four other scientists surround Takeshi. In the original series, one of the four scientists (who was portrayed by Hiroya Ishimaru) activated the voltage panel situated under the operating table.
- In the film, 1 defeats Jaguarman with a standard Rider Kick. However in the original series, Jaguarman and the Shocker goons had captured 1, and Taki had rescued him. Jaguarman was uniquely defeated with 1's new technique at the time, the "Rider Head Crusher".
- In the scene where the Riders use the Clone Rider system, the actors for Touma, Rintaro, Daiji, Sakura, and Yuri briefly wore the suits of the Riders that their characters transformed into.
- The film is sponsored by the Central Japan Railway Company, abbreviated as JR Central, whose trains appear in the film.[29]
- Throughout the film, there are additional noises heard during the transformation scenes of several riders. These sounds are exclusive to this movie and are not heard anywhere else in the Revice TV Show.
- In the end of the film, George gets interested with the splitting feature of the Fuusouken Hayate and suggests adding it to Revice's gear. This indirectly hints at the Giffard Rex Vistamp, which is capable of spitting into two separate stamps.
- The Devil Kamen Rider Ouja uses Giff Junior as "demon shields", in reference to when Takeshi Asakura (Kamen Rider Ouja) used Jun Shibaura (Kamen Rider Gai) as a human shield in Kamen Rider Ryuki, which eventually became a meme.
- Future George Karizaki’s lab in the opening has multiple pages strewn about that are actually real world Kamen Rider concept art from throughout the 50 year history of the franchise. All of them are excerpts from the Hero Hen art book from 2003, from various Detail of Heroes or other reference books.
