The Transformation Holy Sword Jikokuken Kaiji (変身聖剣 時国剣界時, Henshin Seiken Jikokuken Kaiji, lit. "Time Region Sword World Time") is the transformation device and personal weapon of Kamen Rider Durendal.[1]
Design[]
The Jikokuken Kaiji is composed of the following parts:
- Delete Hilt (デリートヒルト, Derīto Hiruto): The hilt. It is designed to maximize the Kaiji's attack power in both Sword and Spear modes.
- Kaiji Trigger (カイジトリガー, Kaiji Torigā): The trigger. When operated by a swordsman, the Jikokuken Kaiji forms a mental link with the wielder and distorts time. It also assists in initializing Rider Finishers.
- Jikokuken Kaiji Emblem (時国剣界時エンブレム, Jikokuken Kaiji Enburemu): The source of Kaiji's time powers. It has the role of granting the Seiken the power to reverse time and protecting the wielder at the present time. The coat of arms representing Kamen Rider Durendal is engraved in the center.
- Kaiji Shelf (カイジシェルフ, Kaiji Sherufu, lit. World Time Shelf): The base of the Jikokuken where the Wonder Ride Book is placed in. In addition to drawing power from the Wonder Ride Book and transmitting it to the Seiken, it also brings various abilities to the "Sword Robe".
- Kaiji Splitter (カイジスプリッター, Kaiji Supurittā): The input device for the Seiken's blade portion. By removing and altering the blade, the Wonder Ride Book will activate and the swordsman will transform. After transformation, the user can change the mode by removing and altering the blade's position.
- Kaiji Edge (ジカイエッジ, Kaiji Eiji): The blade end. Being forged by holy flames over the frost of stars, the blade has the ability to increase its sharpness each time it utilizes its time power.
- Tri Edge (トライデッジ, Torai Eiji): The trident end. It has excellent piercing power and can be used as a harpoon by expanding and contracting.
Modes[]
The Jikokuken Kaiji has two modes: the basic Sword Mode (剣モード, Ken Mōdo) and the trident-based Spear Mode (槍モード, Yari Mōdo). The two modes are alternatively named Kaiji Sword (カイジソード, Kaiji Sōdo) and Kaiji Spear (カイジスピア, Kaiji Supi'a)[2][3] respectively.
Functionality[]
Transformation[]
To transform, the user plugs the Ocean History Wonder Ride Book into the slot before pulling the Tri Edge out of the Kaiji Splitter before inserting the Kaiji Edge instead changing the weapon to its spear mode. The user then appears in a library surrounded by waterfalls, delivering a diagonal slash as a projection of a school of fish surrounds the user and forming the armor. The diagonal slash then forms the visor, finishing the transformation.
Kaiji Erasure[]
By pulling the trigger while the hilt is detached, Durendal can activate the unique ability of the Jikokuken Kaiji called the Kaiji Erasure (界時抹消, Kaiji Masshō), which allows him to erase a given frame of time lasting up to few seconds. During this period, other people will perform the actions that they would have otherwise, but are unable to experience anything in the erased time frame and will retain no memories of it. Durendal, however, is aware of his surrounding and is able to see the actions others would have taken within the erased time frame. Durendal is also able to move within the erased time, allowing him to avoid enemies' attacks or perform ambushes.
The ability ends when Durendal reattaches the hilt and presses the trigger again. After the Sai Kaiji (再界時, lit. Resume Time) state ends, other people will suddenly find themselves in the situation they were supposed to be afterwards, with both themselves and Durendal appearing to have teleported.
Finisher[]
There are two ways of activating a finisher with the Jikokuken Kaiji:
- Separating the blade part from the Kaiji Splitter then inserting it back in the same mode before pulling the Kaiji trigger.
- Pressing the trigger three times in a row.
- Main article: Reading Finishers
- Ocean Sankoku Tsuki (オーシャン三刻突き, Ōshan Sankoku Tsuki, Lit. "Ocean Three Quarter Stab"): Durendal strikes the ground with the bottom of Jikokuken Kaiji's spear mode, creating a blue shockwave. He then manipulates a portion of a nearby body of water, which flies through air and attacks surrounding enemies before covering the end of Jikokuken Kaiji. Durendal then swings the weapon, launching a rotating, crescent-shaped cyan energy slash into the enemy.
- Ocean Ikkoku Giri (オーシャン一刻斬り, Ōshan Ikkoku Giri, Lit. "Ocean One Quarter Slash"): Durendal charges the Jikokuken Kaiji in its sword mode with cyan energy and delivers a dark blue energy slash.
Users (chronological order)[]
User | Kamen Rider | Episode Obtained | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Ryoga Shindai | Pre-Series | Ryoga obtained the seiken before the start of the series. It was destroyed in the fight against Lord of Wise Diago, but it was later restored. |
Kamen Riders[]
- Kamen Rider Durendal (Saber Episodes Episodes 29, 32, 34-36, 38-39, No. 20-kai! Behind The Scenes[]
In filming, the Jikokuken Kaiji Spear Mode has two props: a short version while detaching and reattaching from Sword Mode, and a long version used in combat.
Portrayal[]
The Jikokuken Kaiji is voiced by Akio Otsuka (大塚 明夫, Ōtsuka Akio), who has voiced various characters in Super Sentai, including Hades God Dagon in Mahou Sentai Magiranger and Champ/Oushi Black in Uchu Sentai Kyuranger. The vocal section is provided by singer Eizo Sakamoto (坂本 英三, Sakamoto Eizou).
Notes[]
- Jikokuken Kaiji is the only Seiken to not have an "Wonder World Story of" Wonder Ride Book.
- According to TV Asahi, Durendal's symbol representing his visor is engraved at the center of the circular mark in the middle of the blade/polearm section. However, it is actually found at the bottom of the hilt.
- Though it could be a coincidence, Kaiji's ability is a reference of a stand in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, namely King Crimson.
- It is the first weapon of its series and of the franchise to have a spear as a secondary mode, as well as be part of a user's arsenal in their main form.
