This article is about an ally in Kamen Rider Geats. |
Irumi Kurama (鞍馬 伊瑠美, Kurama Irumi) is the wife of Kousei Kurama and the mother of Neon Kurama. She had initially disapproved of her daughter's decision in becoming a viral star, but would later warm up to her.
History[]
Irumi Kurama is the wife to Kousei Kurama and the two originally had a daughter named Akari. One day, during Akari's birthday, she was abducted for a ¥300,000,000 ransom. Unfortunately, Akari died in the process which broke Irumi immensely. Kousei decided to become a sponsor to the DGP and made a deal with Niram to grant him an idealized version of his daughter named Neon. However, Irumi became more overprotective towards her new daughter, which evolved into abuse and control.
Personality[]
Irumi is a stern mother towards her daughter Neon, and has no qualms being vocally open about her disapproval of Neon's actions outside. As a result of Neon's kidnapping incident during her childhood, Irumi shows signs of being severely traumatized over losing her daughter to unknown dangers, and will take any action possible to keep her daughter within the confines of the household, from hiring bodyguards to secretly tracking Neon's location via GPS. Irumi also shows no care towards any others excluding her family, as she views ordinary people not as wealthy or influental as them as nobodies, and is stated by Neon to restrict her any sort of ability to make friends and choosing who she should marry in arrangement interviews.
Irumi's control over her daughter borders on a certain level of toxic over-protectiveness; when Neon became seriously angry with her, she began resorting to using her emotions to manipulate her daughter into staying by her side. Irumi will also resort to hitting her daughter when she disobeys. However, she also gradually notices that her daughter is becoming serious in her resolve to leave the household and lead her own life, leaving her stunned and shaken for a while.
Upon learning that her daughter is a Kamen Rider from her husband, Irumi panics and tries to dissuade Neon from leaving her life, but only succeeds in pushing Neon further away, as Irumi tells her that no one would care about a victim tied to a timebomb who Neon seeks to rescue. She also becomes bitter towards her husband, who wants the opposite for his little girl by striving for her independence and happiness, albeit with his own manipulative agenda partly involved.
Despite this, Irumi still deeply cares for her daughter, and even convinces her husband to rescue Neon when she was kidnapped by the same kidnapper 11 years ago. After Beroba revealed the truth of Neon's origins and the second kidnapping occurs, Irumi became far kinder to Neon than she had ever been in the past, acting far more like the average loving mother than the strict and abusive one she once was.

Portrayal[]
Irumi Kurama is portrayed by Ryoko Yuui (遊井 亮子, Yūi Ryōko), who previously portrayed Mami Kurasawa in Kamen Rider Kiva and Yoshie Goto in Kamen Rider W.
Etymology[]
Irumi's name likely comes from the romanticization of the word "illuminate" (イルミネイト, Irumineito), meaning "to shine light upon something", alluding to her role as Akari and Neon Kurama's mother.
