This article is about a space station in the Kamen Rider Series. |
The International Space Station or ISS for short, is a real world scientific research station in low Earth orbit which began construction in 1998 and was completed in 2011. It was built by various space agencies: NASA, Roscosmos, JAXA, ESA, and the CSA. Its function is for various science experiments in low gravity including biology, human biology, physics, astronomy, meteorology and more.
Despite its great scientific value and cost to build, it was scheduled to de-orbit in 2024 and burn up on re-entry due to NASA wanting to replace it with a more advanced space station and a lack of interest from all nations involved in extending the ISS's service beyond its target mission length. On February 3, 2022, NASA announced an extension of the station’s service life to 2031 due to private aerospace companies giving their support by creating new modules to carry out experiments and research. The station will then be abandoned after its time is up and crash land into the southern Pacific Ocean in an uninhabited area.
