- "Humanity is, the true devil. (人類こそ、真の悪魔だ, Jinrui koso, shin no akumada)"
- ―Hideo Akaishi[src]
Hideo Akaishi (赤石 英雄, Akaishi Hideo) was the director of Fenix and the secret founder of the Deadmans who became a Giffdemos (ギフデモス, Gifudemosu) and later a Gigademos (ギガデモス, Gigademosu) to carry out Giff's will.
History
Background
Hideo Akaishi was born 3,000 years ago and was once the ruler of an ancient South American civilization. His people feared and opposed the extraterrestrial demon Giff, who retaliated by annihilating the entire civilization overnight. Witnessing the demon's true might, Akaishi began worshiping Giff and was appointed as a mediator for humanity. Alongside with a fellow human Azuma, the two formed a contract with Giff, receiving immortality in exchange for acting as Giff's observer to judge and shape the future of mankind.
In the late 20th century, Akaishi posed as a board member of NOAH to continue serving the now dormant Giff until the organization's collapse. In the wreckage of the headquarters, Hideo found the Demons Driver containing Vail. He retrieved Giff's coffin and founded the Deadmans with the purpose of reviving Giff, later recruiting a young man named Makoto Hatsushiba into the fold as Orteca. Sometime after Fenix was founded, Akaishi became the director to maintain his public persona while secretly helping the Deadmans on the side.
The Fenix Conspiracy
Akaishi arrived on the Fenix Skybase after Fenix confiscated Giff's coffin following the destruction of the Deadmans Base. He intervened after Hiromi Kadota proposed to destroy Giff's coffin, telling him that it would be a hasty decision since Fenix's priority was to locate Orteca, Aguilera and Julio. He later approached George Karizaki regarding the Demons Driver's status, which Akaishi is informed that it will be restored to its former state soon enough.
After Orteca was captured by Fenix, Akaishi went to speak to him under the pretense of an interrogation. When Orteca handed over the Giff Stamp, Hiromi caught them in the act and attempted to stop them. Suddenly, the Fenix Skybase suddenly veered off course, allowing Orteca to summon the Giff Juniors to attack Hiromi, while escaping with the Demons Driver. After Orteca defeated all the other Kamen Riders as Kamen Rider Demons, Akaishi stood by Giff's coffin as it increased with energy.
Sometime after Hiromi's disappearance, Daiji Igarashi approched him regarding the former's search. Akaishi stated that Hiromi was expendable and to focus on pressing concerns. As Giff's revival was coming close, Akaishi warned Orteca to not succumb with hesitation. When Kagero threatened Karizaki demanding the Crow Vistamp, Akaishi permitted Karizaki to hand it to him as it would be another challenge for Daiji to overcome, and should he fail, Kagero could take his place.
Following Orteca's defeat against Holy Live, Akaishi congratulated him as Orteca's contributions will result in Giff's near revival. However, Orteca refused to become his underling as he sought to remake the world. Akaishi returned to Fenix Skybase to witness Giff's coffin absorbing the Fenix members, all according to his plan. Soon after Orteca was absorbed into Giff, Akaishi bowed before his master and declared that it was time for humanity to reach the next stage in evolution.
The Giff Uprising
Following Giff's complete awakening, Akaishi came into contact with Vail and prepared to lead humanity to its "next stage". He had also kidnapped Akemi Mikoshiba, who became suspicious of the director. Holding her hostage, Akaishi proved to be many steps ahead of the Kamen Riders after turning Akemi into a Giffdemos. One day, Akaishi performed a public announcement warning the end of humanity and staged the destruction of Fenix Skybase. His plan had succeeded and Giff depleted most of Fenix's forces, leaving only the Igarashi siblings.
The next day, Akaishi publically revealed his survival supposably due to Giff's regenerative powers. Under Akaishi's direction, Fenix mandated that everyone be stamped with special Vistamps to separate humans from their demons, secretly extracting them to create Giff Juniors. Akaishi would take advantage of Daiji's unhinged state, manipulating him to join his side. When Ikki and Sakura tried to capture Akemi in order to get a sample of Giff, Akaishi killed her and made it appear Ikki was responsible to turn Daiji against him.
This forced Weekend to mobilize their efforts and rally the public away from Fenix's untruths. Despite Akaishi's smeer campaign depicting Weekend as terrorists, many were choosing to fight against Giff. Daiji then volunteered to go lead an attack on Weekend in order to assault the Weekend shelter and escort everyone in it to Ararat. When Daiji failed, Akaishi decided to battle against them personally and used Giff's powers to mutate himself into Giffdemos. He was able to overpower Weekend's Kamen Riders and kill Tasuke Ushijima.
Despite his efforts to gather more supporters, Giff appeared furious towards Akaishi and vexed by humanity's continued conflicts. During a battle against Ultimate Revice, Akaishi's immortality noticeably began to wear down, causing him to panic. He later attempted to intervene in the fight between Genta and Vail, but Ikki and Vice held him off and defeated him. Although Akaishi had been killed, Giff revived him and restored his body. Akaishi thanked Giff for the resurrection, but Giff warned him that his contract is at a near end.
Final Battle and Death
As Giff had deemed that humanity is beyond saving, Akaishi attacked Ararat to lure out the Kamen Riders. Once they arrived, Akaishi sacrificed his immortality in exchange to evolve into the all-powerful Gigademos. Although he takes on the Weekend's Kamen Riders with ease, Jeanne and Aguilera would charge at Gigademos and was held off by Ultimate Revi. This bought Over Demons enough time to maximize his Genomix and obliterate Gigademos. Although weakened, Akaishi saw Daiji walking towards him and believed he had come to help. In the end, Daiji shot Gigademos with his Livegun. Realizing he couldn’t force humanity to serve Giff after all, Akaishi perishes in crimson ashes as he bids farewell to Daiji.
Personality
Hideo Akaishi is a manipulative man who views every human being to be nothing more than a disposable tool, and dismisses them without exception once they've served their purpose.
Despite his vocal approval whenever his subordinates (either Deadmans or Fenix) succeed with their plans, Akaishi is never seen as a credible threat by anyone who underestimates him. His charisma is dangerous enough to make Weekend members wary of approaching him. Even when those close to him know his true nature, Akaishi manages to prevent any attempt to stop him and disposes them, either directly or indirectly. The level of his cunning even far enough to deceive public for making him to be another victim of Giff while staging the destruction of Fenix, leading even the Fenix staff to die and unaware that they had been deceived even when they were killed.
Different from Aguilera, who wants to get close with Giff out of love, and Orteca, who allies with Giff to obtain his power, Akaishi is completely servile to Giff, as his own mutation drives his desire to save humanity through Giff. While ruthless in his pursuit of his goal, Akaishi notably refrains from some heinous acts, choosing to spare the Igarashi siblings since he views them as kin for sharing Giff's DNA. When he is shown looking at a dying Tasuke Ushijima's family picture and showing a degree of pity towards Daiji's loneliness, it shows Akaishi is far from being a sociopath in spite of his ambitions, implying that he too lived a life of solitude in the past with no one being able to understand his ideals.
Unbeknownst to many, Akaishi has a hidden but very strong fear of death. This would eventually mark his downfall, as it drove him into desperation in a bid to destroy humanity and win back Giff's favor, out of fear of having his contract, and by extension his life, terminated.

Relationships
Allies
- Giff: Akaishi is a loyal servant to Giff and acts as his advisor.
- Orteca: Akaishi was one of the first to recognize Orteca's intelligence, being the one to recruit him into the Deadmans himself. He is impressed with Orteca's brilliance and manipulativeness, allowing the Deadmans general to proceed with his plans without intervening. In the end though, Orteca was just another pawn in Akaishi's schemes, as the director quickly moved on to secure Daiji as his next collaborator after Orteca's death.
- Vail: Akaishi collaborates with Vail for his plans, reawakening him via the Demons Driver experiments and later restoring the demon's physical form through Giff, allowing him to pose a threat to the Igarashi siblings. As Akaishi knows that the Igarashi siblings are genetically descended from Giff, he asks Vail to keep them alive still and threatens to sever their alliance if he refuses.
Enemies
- George Karizaki: Akaishi views George in high regard as a tool like George's father. He is unaware on how George secretly despises him, even for forcing George to create the Demons Driver and making Hiromi use it. However, Akaishi has no need to see George as a threat, for he was able to quickly see through George's plans of using the tuned-up Demons Driver to ambush him.
- Hiromi Kadota: Akaishi views Hiromi as nothing but a perfect tool as the experiment for Demons Driver. After noticing that Hiromi is disposed by Orteca, Akaishi declared to Daiji and George that Hiromi is just another fallen soldier and can be replaced by anyone.
- Akemi Mikoshiba: Akaishi caught her discovering his secret alliance with Giff. He forced her into his servitude, using her to demonstrate that humanity has no hope against Giff's existence. He ultimately disposed of her once she had outlived her usefulness.
- Weekend: Akaishi is antagonized secretly by the organization which is led by his former accomplice, Masumi Karizaki. After Weekend openly declares their war against Fenix, Akaishi labels the organization as traitors towards humanity who have rejected Giff.
- Daiji Igarashi: Akaishi had been eyeing Daiji as a potential asset from the get go. Initially, when George was concerned about the risks of using the Crow Vistamp, Akaishi had no qualms in considering the possibility of using Kagero instead, in the event that Daiji were to be erased. Later, after Orteca's defeat and Daiji successfully mastering the power of the Holy Wing Vistamp, Akaishi gradually shifts his sights onto Daiji as his next target instead. Though Daiji vowed to stand up to Akaishi and expose the dark truth behind Fenix with his newfound sense of justice, the director remained mostly unfazed by Daiji's threats, and was able to successfully lure Daiji to his side. Later, relating to Daiji's own feelings of loneliness, Akaishi treats Daiji as his own family, both of them being genetically related to Giff. He would later be betrayed by Daiji, who ended up killing him.
Behind the Scenes
Portrayal
- Hideo Akaishi is portrayed by Jun Hashimoto (橋本 じゅん, Hashimoto Jun). His suit actor as Giffdemos and Gigademos is Satoshi Fujita (藤田 慧, Fujita Satoshi).
Etymology
The characters that make up his first name can alternatively be read as "Eiyū", which means "hero" or "great man", befitting his status as Fenix's director. Ironically, Hideo is a villainous character rather than a heroic one.
Notes
- In Weekend's records of Akaishi, he was allegedly born on August 26, 1964 and graduated from a university in America, later going on to work for the Department of Defense and helping inaugurate a technical management plan for the Pentagon.
- While confronted by Daiji in Episode 33 and later in 40, Akaishi recited the passage of Furinkazan, a battle standard most famously used by Takeda Shingen, which in turn is directly quoted from Sun Tzu's The Art of War.
- Akaishi's Giffdemos form is modified from Diablo's suit, with a different head and shoulders, additional armor over the torso, and a different color scheme. His Gigademos form uses the same suit, with the only difference being its predominantly red color scheme.
- The white armor on Akaishi's Giffdemos form mimics the white clothing found on Phase 2 and 3 Deadmen.
