Hayato Ichimonji (一文字 隼人, Ichimonji Hayato), is an alternate version of the original Hayato Ichimonji from Kamen Rider, the original series.
Biography[]
The First[]
In Kamen Rider The First, unlike the series, Hayato Ichimonji was completely rewritten. A mysterious figure sent from Shocker's ranks with an appearance identical to Katsuhiko Yano, Ichimonji was sent by his superiors to execute Takeshi Hongo, being chosen due to their similar designs as cyborgs[1]. Unlike Takeshi though, Ichimonji suffers the wasting disease that results from being experimented on and needs a transfusion only Shocker scientists can execute to survive.
Ichimonji originally served as Takeshi's enemy, using his appearance to manipulate Asuka. Later on though, his affections toward Asuka become genuine, causing Shocker to deem Ichimonji as a traitor. Though Ichimonji was nearly executed by Shocker's soldiers, Takeshi saves him from certain death, with Ichimonji joining him as a hesitant ally.
Cooperating with each other to rescue Asuka, Takeshi and Ichimonji head to a base owned by Shocker, encountering Cobra and Snake's forces. Initially overwhelmed against them in battle, Ichimonji decides to retreat, believing the situation to be a lost cause. Takeshi refuses to do so, with Ichimonji annoyedly leaving him behind. Just when Takeshi was nearly defeated though, Ichimonji suddenly reappeared to save him, having a change of heart. The Double Riders'fighting spirit reignited, Shocker's forces gradually fell against their attacks, with Cobra and Snake defeated in the end. Successfuly rescuing Asuka and destroying Shocker's base, Ichimonji oversees Takeshi leave with Asuka, wishing them good luck while leaving his helmet on the road.
The Next[]
Ichimonji returns in the sequel Kamen Rider The Next. He has apparently managed to survive the two years following The First, and lives the lifestyle of a popular bar regular in Ginza. Like Hongo, his Hopper uniform has become scarred and dented, including the scratched out remains of the Shocker logo on his gloves and back. Worse, without Shocker's aid to manage his body, the effects on Ichimonji had become more life threatening and debilitating, forcing him to hide his wounds with a scarf and pair of gloves. By the time he returns to support Hongo, he insists on aiding him in spite of his condition. Towards the end of the film, his condition has become so severe that he coughs up blood through the mouth of his mask, and was nearly killed if not for V3's intervention. After the battle, he leaves in a similar manner to the first film, carrying his helmet over his shoulder.
Director's Cut Ending[]
After the final battle, Ichimonji seemingly dies peacefully in the company of women in the same club he visited at the start of the movie.

Personality[]
Unlike his original counterpart, Ichimonji is a rather snide and womanizing figure. Content as a member of Shocker, Ichimonji dutifully attempted to execute Takeshi. Deceiving Asuka with his appearance, Ichimonji attempted to manipulate her for his own desires, before growing attached to her. He unwittingly earned Shocker's ire from his insubordinate actions, being deemed a traitor.
Once saved by Takeshi, Ichimonji felt gratitude towards him. Encouraging Takeshi to be more confident in himself, Ichimonji assists him in rescuing Asuka, facing off against Shocker's troops. Once the situation becomes disadvantageous though, Ichimonji tried to retreat in battle out of fear. With Takeshi remaining adamant in facing Shocker, Ichimonji initially abandoned him. Ultimately however, Ichimonji decide to save Takeshi, gaining the will to face injustice. Once successfully completing their mission, Ichimonji calmly watches Takeshi and Asuka leave, expressing sincerity for their future together.
Two years later, from his condition worsening over time, Ichimonji continues to ease his pain with alcohol and women. Though annoyed with Takeshi's neediness, Ichimonji still retains his friendship with him, saving Takeshi from Shocker's forces. Deriding his former self as an empty puppet controlled by Shocker, Ichimonji at one point chides Shiro's attitude as the same, being disgusted with his callousness.
Despite being severely weakened from his illness, Ichimonji readily decides to assist Takeshi in stopping Shocker's plans, no longer showing any hesitation in battle. Upon witnessing Shiro's changed stance as V3, Ichimonji congratulates him for changing, accepting Shiro as an ally. With their battle ultimately won, Ichimonji parts way with Takeshi and Shiro, doing so in a amiable manner.
Fighting style[]
Being re-created as Shocker's cyborg, Ichimonji is shown to be superhumanly strong and durable, easily smashing through concrete and steel. In contrast to Takeshi, Ichimonji's fighting style is much more fluid and swift, easily overwhelming Takeshi in their first battle. However, due to his disease, Ichimonji regularly requires maintenance to perform at his peak, lest his body begins to break down. This becomes a major weakness after his heel-turn, leading to moments of vulnerability against Shocker's soldiers.
When facing Bat, Cobra, and Snake, Ichimonji initially proved little challenge against them; Cobra alone overwhelming Ichimonji and Takeshi simultaneously. From determination and teamwork though, Ichimonji and Takeshi gradually evened the odds, their Double Rider Kick proving fatal for Bat. Combating Snake, Ichimonji countered her nimbleness with his own, ultimately defeating Snake by using a Rider Reversal Kick attack.
Two years later, from his illness worsening, Ichimonji becomes more reliant on speed and strategy to face his foes, no longer having the stamina for prolonged battles. However, Ichimonji's strength itself has not waned in the slightest, being able to kick aside a truck without transforming, causing it to be greatly damaged. Like Takeshi, Ichimonji's skills proved enough to fight Shocker's newest soldiers on equal footing, at one point overpowering Chainsaw Lizard and multiple Shocker Riders by himself. Compared to Takeshi, Ichimonji proved more formidable for Scissors Jaguar, landing several hits to him in their battle. Ultimately, the Double Riders' teamwork defeated Scissors Jaguar, the latter falling to their Double Rider Kick and Double Rider Punch combination attack.
Other abilities[]
- Master Bike Racer: Matching Takeshi himself as a motorcyclist, Ichimonji flawlessly used the Cyclone II to infiltrate Shocker's base to rescue Asuka. Two years later, Ichimonji's resourcefulness with Cyclone II has granted him several advantages against Shocker's newest soldiers, surprising them on two occasions.

Notes[]
- Whereas other versions of Hayato Ichimonji/Kamen Rider 2 are power-based warriors, this Ichimonji does not have the stamina for such a fighting style, opting to defeat his foes through accuracy and speed.
- Unlike his TV counterpart, Hayato Ichimonji, who was an ally from the beginning, in the film, Ichimonji originally served as Takeshi's enemy, becoming an ally later on in the story.
- This is more similar to Ichimonji's manga counterpart, where he was initially introduced as a Shocker Rider sent to assassinate Takeshi, before regaining his sense of self.
- According to director Ryuta Tasaki, the theatrical cut removed all references to Ichimonji's death after his departure from Hongo at the end of the battle appeared as a more effective farewell, in contrast to the extended scene where he dies in the cabaret club.[4] The DVD release of The Next gives viewers have the option to select either the theatrical cut (RELEASE Ver.) or the version that includes the added death scene (EXTENSION ver.).[5]
