Hanto Karakida (辛木田 絆斗, Karakida Hanto) is a freelance writer who transforms into Kamen Rider Valen (仮面ライダーヴァレン, Kamen Raidā Varen).
History[]
Background[]
Hanto Karakida was born to his mother Sae Karakida around 2001. As a child, he was close with his mother and played with her until she was abducted by a Granute in front of him when he was only five. After her disappearance, Hanto went to live with his grandmother until she passed away when Hanto was still in middle school.
By the time Hanto was in high school, he had become a delinquent and often got into fights. Eventually, he was taken in by journalist Soji Shioya, who inspired Hanto to follow in his footsteps and become a journalist of his own to find the Granute who took his mother.
As an adult, 18 years after his mother's disappearance, he had become an experienced writer in his own right and had commissioned the help of Sachika Amane for her handyman services at least thrice.
Searching for Gavv[]
After the arrival of Kamen Rider Gavv and the exposure of the various Granutes, Hanto chased various leads with people who had personally encountered them, such as Hajime Hiroi, who claimed that the "purple monster" saved him. That night, having read reports over social media with pictures of Gavv surfacing, as well as having personally seen him, he exclaimed that he finally found the monster. With the public naming the purple monster as a "Kamen Rider," Hanto responded to a sighting of him and witnessed his fight with the Granute Bon before confronting him. Before Hanto was able to get answers, he was interrupted by Kenzo Suga, a Granute researcher who later explained the origins of the Granutes and revealed his in-development method of fighting them.
Hanto advocates for Gavv's credibility as a hero
- "He's not a monster! He's the Kamen Rider who's been saving you guys from the real monsters out there!"
- ―Hanto defending civilians freed by Gavv[src]
Continuing his reporting, Hanto responded to a call from Sachika, who reported that Agents were spotted. Hanto staked out two Agents preparing to submit several Human Presses back to the Granute World before they were interrupted by Kamen Rider Gavv. After Gavv freed the humans, who remained scared of him, Hanto advocated for him, calling him the superhero "Kamen Rider" who saved Hanto and them from the real monsters.
A Bitter Vengeance[]
Hanto preparing to transform into Kamen Rider Valen.
After having helped Gavv free the victims of the Human Presses, he discovered that Soji had taken the stakeout job that Hanto was supposed to have taken, which resulted in his death by being turned into a Human Press then broken in half. Angered and blaming himself, he ran to Kenzo with full resolve on taking revenge, having decided he could no longer allow any more of his loved ones to be killed by the Granutes. Kenzo prepared the Valenbuster and Hanto underwent the required Granute Organ implant surgery before he unleashed his new powers on the Granute Otake.
Busting the Dark Snacks Trade[]
After becoming Kamen Rider Valen, he and Gavv would often run into one another in the fights against the Granute, both of which are still clueless on their identities yet agree to keep them a secret from one another. Despite this, they care for each other and ask each other to get to safety when intending to transform. Hanto, as Valen, even refers to Gavv as his "senpai" while designating himself as the "kouhai". However, the two learn of each others' alter egos after knocking out his transformation by Granute Early. Having been saved by Shoma, Hanto becomes enraged that Shoma prioritized saving him over the elimination of the Granute as the longer it stays alive the more victims it will claim. Shoma ultimately convinces Hanto to live to fight another day. After their first battle with their identities revealed, Hanto allows Shoma to be on a first-name basis with him but is left unaware of Shoma's status as a Granute hybrid at that time. Hanto would continue cooperating with Shoma to neutralize the Granute threats.
Encounter with Lage Nine[]
When Gavv and Valen were about to finish the Granute Chooul with their final attack, a mysterious man appears in the middle of the fight. causing them to immediately direct their final attacks in another direction so he'dd not be injured. They assumed the man to be human, but he then removed his Mimic Key to reveal his true identity as Granute Lage Nine and transforms into Kamen Rider Vram using the Vrastumgear. Gavv and Valen were shocked at how an ordinary Granute can become a Kamen Rider, Valen didn't believe that Vram would help them, but Vram retaliates by attacking him and Gavv. Gavv and Valen split up, Gavv fighting Granute Chooul while Valen fights Vram. Valen tries to fight Vram with all his power, but ends up getting beaten up by Vram until he is in critical condition. Shoma returns to find Hanto in a critical state after being hit by Vram's Vram Shooting, Hanto instructs Shoma to take him to Kenzo Suga's laboratory to recover since a normal hospital could no longer treat Hanto's modified body.
Discovering Suga's True Colors[]
After recovering from his injuries, Hanto received news of Shoma being attacked by Glotta and her Agents (while mistaking Vram to be attacking Shoma as well). Arriving at the scene, Hanto discovers that Gavv and Vram are working together. He would then be shocked upon learning that Shoma is the youngest of the Stomach and is half-Granute.
Angered by Shoma's secret and thinking he tricked him, Hanto decided to distance himself from Shoma. After cooling his head off, he realized that Shoma is telling the truth and seeks to confirm things with his friend. Around the same, he spotted someone identical to Shoma, but was unable to catch up to him.
The next day, Hanto discovered a mess created by someone who looks like Shoma. Thinking that Shoma is now fully embracing his Granute side, Hanto decided to warn Sachika to not let Shoma in as he is dangerous. He would then confront the evil Shoma, who becomes Bitter Gavv.
Later on, Hanto would mend his relationship with Shoma for a bit after a heart-to-heart, which allows them to defeat the first Bitter Gavv. But after Shoma revealed he was present as a child when Hanto's mother was getting turned into a Press, Hanto finds himself distancing himself again from Shoma. At this time, he received the new Chocold Gochizo from Suga as a "Valentine gift", which he puts to use during the fight against a Granute. This resulted in Hanto getting a bit drunk on power as he believes the Gochizo allows him to be stronger.
However, unbeknownst to Hanto himself, he began suffering some heart problems as the result of using Chocold Gochizo. When trying to consult with Suga, he discovered that Suga is the person who created the Bitter Gavvs and decided to flee from him.
Hanto would later respond to Suga's summon after the later took Shoma hostage. He learned the painful truth that his mentor had died as a bait so that Hanto could become Suga's ideal Rider. This caused Hanto to break down and loath himself, realizing that he had been manipulated from the start.
Valen Frappe Custom's debut.
After another heart-to-heart with Shoma, Hanto finally solidified his decision to no longer be Suga's pawn. He would then receive a Vrastumgear created by Dente and Frappeis Gochizo from Shoma, allowing him to transform into Valen Frappe Custom and defeat Suga, signifying his first step into becoming a true Kamen Rider. He would then fully make amends with Shoma and become friends with him again.
Investigating Michiru Inoue and Facing Lago[]
A month after Suga's defeat, Hanto, along with Shoma, visits Rakia who now lives in Suga's old laboratory. He brings him rocks as a peace offering in order to make amends with the Granute, although Rakia's attitude pissed him off for a moment. He also pays a visit to Dente, bringing cookies to thank him for creating the Vrastumgear. He also managed to dispatch some Stomach Inc.'s part-timers alongside Shoma and Rakia.
Some time later, Hanto asks Shoma about his mother, Michiru Inoue, telling him that he wants to look into the half-Granute's maternal family. Despite knowing that Shoma is a bit scared to meet his mother's family, Hanto decided to go looking into it in case Shoma changes his mind.
Later on, Hanto would be called up by Sachika to help Hapipare in searching for Granute Ochiru and saving the clients. After getting no results from their individual searches, Hanto and the others retrace the steps of the victims and managed to find Granute Ochiru, before he and Shoma gave chase and eventually cornered the Granute. Together, Hanto and Shoma managed to defeat Granute Ochiru.
During his second attempt in finding Michiru, Hanto came across a woman whose little brother shares the same name with Shoma's late mother. As Rakia thought Granute Ripper was the killer of his late brother, Valen Frappe Custom would defeat Ripper alongside Vram.
As the Jaldaks finally take action, they first started by having Magen assault Hanto. Valen Frappe Custom & Vram Jelly Custom would subdue Bitter Gavv while Shoma was creating another set of 100 Gochizos to fill his Gochipod before accessing Doumaru Form alongside Vram Pudding Custom to send Bitter Gavv to his defeat by Over Gavv.
The night before fighting Lango at the airport, Rakia wonders what Sachika's response would be if she discovers his past as a human-kidnapping Part-Timer. Lango brutally defeated all three Riders' even managing to destroy Vram's belt. Valen would neutralize the Granutes and Agents alongside Vram at U.M.A's concert where Ritsu Sato was at, while Gavv dealt with Lango who seemingly got killed by Gavv's new form, Master Mode.
As Hiroto & Reina Ando requested Hapipare to renew the popularity of the Wagashi Shop Ando, Hanto ultimately discovers the identity of the Wagashi maker Kenji Saito as Granute Lago, the very same Granute that kidnapped his mother when he was a child. Although Hanto was hellbent on killing Lago at first, the journalist eventually decided not to after seeing his attempts at redemption and the bonds he formed at the Wagashi Shop. After Dente Stomach's death by Glotta, Valen and Gavv decided to confront Glotta at an abandoned warehouse, with Valen later chasing the Agents to reclaim Human Presses while Gavv Caking Form and Vram (in his newly-attained A La Mode Mode) brutally defeated Glotta.
A hooded figure is seen hypnotizing civilians into doing strange tasks, later revealed to be Suga who survived his first defeat by Hanto who pulled off his cape. Nyelv revealed that he reanimated Suga's corpse and surgically mixed him with a dead Granute who possesed an ability akin to hypnosis. As the fight occurs, Nyelv and Bitter Gavv threw Valen Frappe onto a lower ground before brainwashing Valen into fighting Master Gavv and Vram. As they keep Valen at bay, Vram finally defeats Valen, but the brainwashed Hanto mocks them before Over Gavv lifts Hanto to calm him down. Back at Suga's old lab (now Rakia's resident), Hanto is tied to stop him from wildly attacking, with Rakia even splashing water on his face to calm him down only for Hanto to get even more aggressive. Towards the final battle against the fourth Bitter Gavv, Hanto (having freed himself from Suga's hypnosis) arrives at the battlefield to fight Nyelv Stomach with stalemate results while Master Gavv and Vram A La Mode Mode destroys the Bakemagnum.
Rakia gets attacked by the Jaldaks' Butlers, leading to Gavv Caking Form and Valen Frappe Custom to fight the Butlers to their victory until Bocca unleashed a devastating blow to the Riders, making them realize how powerful Bocca is. Rakia would have nightmares about Comel before being visited by Hanto.
Kamen Rider Gavv: Invaders of the House of Snacks[]
Final Battle[]
Sachika would tag along with Hanto to visit Rakia's residence as the latter (in his Granute form) was testing out the antidote made by the late Dente, witnessing Rakia's Granute form once again. With Hanto pointing out she got along with Dente, Sachika curiously asked Rakia whether or not he attacked humans. Rakia (lowering his gaze) reluctantly but with evident remorse, murmured a sorrowful admission of guilt as his voice trembled acknowledging having kidnapped them, revealing he originally came to the Human world as one of Stomach's Part-Timers. Hanto tries defending Rakia, claiming investigating his brother's death was always his goal nor ever did he gorge on Dark Snacks either. Rakia adds to this, saying he'd collected Human Presses and shipped them off before but Hanto said he still reclaimed them. Rakia reminded Sachika of when she told him to try and find his own happiness and guiltily claimed that he has to right to, sincerely apologizing to her for keeping her in the dark.
Hanto and Rakia would appear to save people injured from Lizel's attack. As the falling rubble crushes Rakia, Sachika and Hanto rush over only to find him unscathed at all and proceeds to continue rescuing the victims. Back at Hapipare, Hanto tended to Rakia's wound from the rubble earlier who thanked him by playfully pushing Hanto as Sachika prepared dessert with rocks for the Granute while remarking how much he's agonized repenting over his past sins and how she wants to keep supporting him, making Rakia smile and thank her.
Valen Frappe Custom & Vram A La Mode Mode entered the Granute World with Lango's help in unlocking the Door Space, later rescuing Shoma whose leg got injured from his fight against Bocca. As Shoma confronts Lizel at a warehouse, Nyelv attacks Shoma but Valen Frappe Custom holds Nyelv off until Shoma accesses Caking Form. Nyelv gained the upper hand until he revealed his true plot: To destroy the Dummy Gochizos with his trigger, but Bocca anticipated this beforehand and had his Butlers tinker with the switch to make it self-destruct instead, killing Nyelv in an anticlimactic fashion.
Bocca shifts his attention to the Riders, blasting them with Gavv using the Whipped Soldiers and Valen using his ice-based powers to unsuccessfully block Bocca's beam. After Bocca confronts Lango for kidnapping his daughter, the Rider trio appear to fight the president. Although overwhelmed at first with Bocca mocking Shoma, the latter gains access to Amazingummy due to his indomitable will and determination, allowing the Riders to defeat the president with Lango's assistance. Lango ultimately (and predictably) betrays the heroes, telling them his plan from the start was to reclaim his company and take over the Human World Ranching Project. When the Riders tried transforming to fight again, Lango warned them the humans will get Pressed in the meantime, making them leave.
As it rains at Rakia's residence, it gave Shoma an idea to cure the victims with Rakia's antidote. The next day, Gavv cures the victims in Fuwamallow Form using the new Mofupachi Gochizo to disperse the antidote in the form of raindrops while Valen and Vram raid Stomach's factory. Although successful in destroying it, they were soon ambushed by an armada of Lango's Agents. Rakia stayed behind to deal with the Agents using his Granute powers in his Rider form once again while Hanto tries to escape the Granute World with a crate of Human Presses, only to encounter Jiip. As Gavv is about to enter his final duel with his eldest half-brother, Vram would continue to deal with Lango's Agents in the Granute World.
As Hanto and Jiip prepare to transform, Lizel knocks Hanto with his parasol, exclaiming she wants revenge for her late father. As they converse about each having things they want to protect with Hanto unsuccessfully asking them to leave, they finally transform and fight, with Bitter Gavv using his armor part to break free from Valen's ice trap until he gives the Jaldak spouses a headbutt and is about to defeat Lizel. However, Jiip protects his wife using his body as a shield, making Lizel grief in sorrow and Hanto solemnly leaves the scene with the crate of Human Presses.
3 months after the final battle with the Door Space being destroyed thus trapping Rakia in the Granute World, Hanto set up a website for Shoma to rescue former Stomach part-timers stuck in the human world.
Kamen Rider Gavv: Guilty Parfait[]
In Other Media[]
Kamen Rider Valen is a playable character in Kamen Rider Battle: Ganba Legends. Multiple different forms of his are avaliable through different cards. Hanto makes an appearance in his civilian form in multiple Event cards.
Personality[]
Hanto is amicable, as he is shown to easily befriend Shoma, even when it was their first meeting. He is also rational and observant, as shown when he could deduce that Gavv is not a monster, but a hero after thoroughly observing his battle against Granute Bon and the Agents. However, Hanto's tendency to jump into trouble head on proves to be troublesome as he is rarely prepared for it. Unfortunately, his approaches to interviewing often come up as frightening to other civilians, who run away from him.
The loss of Hanto's mother and mentor figure to the Granutes serve as the driving force of his hatred for the species. After vowing to eliminate all Granutes without exception, this led to him becoming Kamen Rider Valen which gave him the power to act on his feelings. Over time, Hanto developed a reckless fighting style that prioritized saving humans and the defeat of the Granutes over his own well-being, including taking a blast head on to prevent a compressed victim from being killed. After Hanto was saved by Shoma, both having revealed their Rider identities to one another, he was enraged that Shoma prioritized saving him over the elimination of the Granute, but was convinced otherwise to live to fight another day.
Hanto's hatred for the Granutes is so intense to the point where he is unwilling to consider the possibility that good Granutes can exist. After Hanto was injured, he was not present to hear Rakia Amarga's side of the story and see the circumstances behind how he came to team up with Shoma. As a result, Hanto was confused as to why Shoma specifically was working with Rakia, and not the other way around. After hearing Glotta Stomach revealing Shoma's true identity as a Granute and the youngest brother of the Stomach Family, Hanto became enraged. Fortunately, Hanto quickly returned to being rational, realizing it was unreasonable it was for him to not hear Shoma out. After learning of Shoma's commendable actions such as rescuing Rakia's former victims and fighting Kenzo Suga's Dark Shoma clones in spite of his mental block that deteriorated his combat abilities, Hanto became guilt-ridden and ultimately came to the decision to trust Shoma, and their reconcilation created the unique Frappe Custom for his Valen powers.
Despite these good traits, Hanto also has his bad sides as his strong hatred toward Granutes has make him obsessed with obtaining strong power to defeat Granutes by himself alone, as his multiple times of defeat where he needs to fight alongside Gavv to defeat Granutes has amplified his thirst for power, where he finally obtains Chocold Gochizos while not noticing the plans of Suga. After he realized Suga's machinations and had a heart-to-heart with Shoma, Hanto finally overcomes his thirst for power, declaring that he is not going to "fall into temptations" any longer and continue to find strength in his own way.
Having since changed his viewpoint on Granutes as a whole, Hanto finally came face to face with his mother's kidnapper and the source of his revenge, Granute Lago. Despite wanting to kill him, Lago had since changed and felt guilty about his former actions. While Hanto is unable to forgive him, he was able to respect the relationships that Lago had built at the wagashi shop, but will not hesitate to end his life should Lago fall back to evil. He later even attempted to spare Jiip and Lizel as he believes they all have things to protect, convincing them to go back to the Granute World to no avail and showing a solemn expression after Jiip shielded Lizel from Valen Frappe Custom's deathblow. By the end of the series, he now recognizes that the Granute Part-Timers were simply victims of upper-class corruption and corporate greed, and is willing to help them recover from the damage done.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Granute Organ Transplantation: After being transplanted with an organ acquired by Kenzo Suga from a Granute, Hanto can harness the power of the Gochizo and transform into Kamen Rider Valen.
- Superhuman Durability: After the Granute organ transplant, Hanto gained increased endurance, being able to withstand a kick to the face from Glotta Stomach despite not being transformed.
- Superhuman Strength: Hanto has demonstrated enhanced strength in both his Rider form and his human form, being able to corner Shoma, a Granute-human hybrid.
- Enhanced Healing Rate: Due to his implant, Hanto's body heals faster than a normal human, though it is not instantaneous and Hanto will require a degree of first aid. This also allowed him to recover from the toxin released by Dummy Gochizo PLE quicker than anyone else, although he is still not immune to it.
Abilities[]
- Expert Combatant: Before Hanto became a Kamen Rider, he was caught in a lot of fights during his youth. This allowed Hanto to fight against his opponents on equal ground even with his inferior power when compared to Shoma, with him managing to defeat Granute Otake on his lonesome despite the lingering injuries after his surgery, avenging his late mentor. Through his fighting experience, Hanto also has his fighting skills improved as he is now able to defeat Granute Part-timers on his own with less effort in his Chocodon Form compared to his first debut as Valen.
- Keen Observer: Due to his career as a journalist and writer, Hanto developed a keen sense of observation. On one instance, he deduced Granute Yard's true identity just from a single snack wrapper dropped by one of his victims. Furthermore, Hanto successfully deduced that Shoma was Kamen Rider Gavv's alter ego after hearing Gavv refer to him the same way Shoma did. For comical purposes, he is able to precisely count the number of needles that stabbed him after landing on a cactus.
Weakness[]
- Limited Gochizo Capacity: As Hanto is not a Granute and does not possess a Gavv to create his own Gochizo, Hanto must obtain more from external means, such as using whatever supply Kenzo has or getting more from Shoma.
- Gochizo Usage: Due to the Granute organ being implanted in Hanto, despite it allowing him Rider transformation capabilities, prolonged usage of Gochizos will eventually overstimulate it, causing physically detrimental chest pains. While Gochizos made by Shoma will only cause minimal pain, certain Gochizos like the artificial Chocold will especially accelerate the severity of the pains. Dente Stomach stated that the majority of Hanto's pain was attributed to the Valenbuster, a Kenzo Suga creation. As such, Dente created a modified Vrastumgear that would allow Hanto to access more power while keeping the physical pain strains to a minimum. By the time of Guilty Parfait, the Granute organ has done enough damage to Hanto's body that it is now considered life-threatening.
- Impulsiveness: As a former delinquent, Hanto can occasionally let his personal feelings and prejudices get the better of him, causing him to miss the mark on key details and worsen things for his allies, which isn't helped by the fact that he can be stubborn and refuse to hear anyone else's side of the story. Fortunately, it's simple enough for the others to calm him down enough to make him see sense.
- Time Limit (Frappeis): Similar to Gavv's Blizzardsorbet Form, the Frappeis Gochizo will eventually melt completely due to its nature, limiting the time Valen can utilize it. This can somewhat be combated by either finishing the battle as quick as possible or obtaining more Frappeis Gochizo from Shoma to transform again.
Kamen Rider Valen[]
Kamen Rider Valen's character theme is Truth Hunter.

- Chocodon Grab Bar (チョコドングラブバー, Chokodon Gurabu Bā): The arms. Very high calorie consumption makes for a heavyweight punch.
- Valenbuckle (ヴァレンバックル, Varenbakkuru): The special mechanism. It works together with the Granute organ transplanted in Hanto and the Valenbuster to make up the transformation system.
- Bloom Boots (ブルームブーツ, Burūmu Būtsu): The legs. By concentrating the energy of his entire body in his legs, he unleashes a finishing kick that transcends human power.
This form has the following finishers:
- Valenbuster finisher:
- Chocodon (チョコドン, Chokodon): Valen opens the Valenbuster's Crack Jack and generates a red energy sphere. He closes the Crack Jack to turn it into a giant chocolate ball and presses the Traction Trigger while punching the chocolate ball to the enemy. It smashes into the enemy and covers them in melted chocolate, causing them to explode on impact.
- Valen could also utilize this ability to spread the molten chocolate on the ground to not only hinder Granute Yard's movement, but also allow himself to glide across the ground.
- The molten chocolate can also be used to coat the Zakuzakuchipslashers to improve the durability of their blades.

- Rider Weight: 82.1 kg
- Ability Parameters[3]
- Punching Power: 0.5 t
- Kicking Power: 0.7 t
- Maximum Jump Height: 4.2 m
- Maximum Running Speed: 100 m per 8.8 seconds
Doumaru Form (ドーマルフォーム, Dōmaru Fōmu) is Valen's doughnut-based form accessed by using a Doumaru Gochizo in the Valenbuster. Its sound effect is a puffy, plain doughnut-styled "Mofu" (モフ), an onomatopoeia used for soft and fluffy things. It is currently Valen's only form shown to produce sound effects when fighting, a trait otherwise reserved for Gavv.
Doumaru Form has lower stats than Chocodon Form, aside from the higher jump height. The doughnut-shaped rings on his arms shield him from enemy attacks by enlarging, and all four doughnut rings on his body can detach to restrain enemies.
Doumaru Form consists of the following parts:
- Doumaru Mask (ドーマルマスク, Dōmaru Masuku): The head.
- Protect Label (プロテクトラベル, Purotekuto Raberu): The top of the head. A very rigid skeleton is formed to protect the head.
- O Indicator (Oインジケータ, Ō Injikēta): The autonomic hub. It regulates the transformation system and autonomously releases the transformation when the load on the body exceeds its limits.
- Doumaru Face Ring (ドーマルフェイスリング, Dōmaru Feisu Ringu): The face. The five human senses - sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell - are concentrated, and all perception ranges are expanded with the omnidirectionally protruding ring shapes.
- Nache Body (ナッシュボディ, Nasshu Bodi): The body. Valen acquired superhuman strength through transformation using Shoma's Gochizo.
- Doumaru Chest Ring (ドーマルチェストリング, Dōmaru Chesuto Ringu): The chest. The biological tissue generated by using a Doumaru Gochizo enables coordinated attacks by deploying multiple rings, and its flexibility can also be used to restrain targets.
- Doumaru Grab Ring (ドーマルグラブリング, Dōmaru Gurabu Ringu): The arms. The rings on the forearms enlarge to act as shields to repel impact.
- Doumaru (ドーマル, Dōmaru): Has two variations.
- Valen opens the Valenbuster's Crack Jack while it is holstered in the Buster Holder to eject the Doumaru Chest & Grab Rings. He unholsters the Valenbuster, closes the Crack Jack, and fires a Doumaru Ring projectile to compress the opponent. The remaining Chest & Grab Rings stack on the enemy to bind them, leaving the enemy completely immobile & vulnerable to other attacks.
- Valen opens the Crack Jack on the holstered Valenbuster to eject the Doumaru Chest & Grab Rings. He utilizes the floating Doumaru Rings as platforms he can jump around on before landing to deliver a right hook punch. He unholsters the Valenbuster to close the Crack Jack and fires stacked Doumaru Rings to knock into the opponent. Gavv then uses the Gavvwhipir to fill a Doumaru Ring with cream, having it serve a propellant to launch the spinning projectile towards the opponent's direction.
- Doumaru (ドーマル, Dōmaru): Has two variations.
Bushel Form
- Rider Height: 194.0 cm
- Rider Weight: 94.2 kg
- Ability Parameters[4]

Bushel Form (ブシュエルフォーム, Bushueru Fōmu) is Valen's bûche de Noël-based form accessed by using a Bushel Gochizo in the Valenbuster.
Bushel Form gives Valen a slight increase in punching and kicking power, but his added weight lowers his jump height and speed. All of his stats are inferior to those of Gavv's Bushel Form. However, his improved information analysis allows him to focus on attacking fast-moving enemies. In this form, Valen is armed with the Xmax, granting him greater melee combat capabilities. He can also use it to scatter powdered sugar-like particles, which detonate when shot with the Valenbuster to cause dust explosions.
Bushel Form consists of the following parts:
- Bushel Mask (ブシュエルマスク, Bushueru Masuku): The head.
- Bushel Face Log (ブシュエルフェイスログ, Bushueru Feisu Rogu): The face. The five human senses - sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell - are concentrated, and the multi-layered structure improves all information analysis capabilities.
- Nache Body (ナッシュボディ, Nasshu Bodi): The body. Valen acquired superhuman strength through transformation using Shoma's Gochizo.
- Bushel Chest Log (ブシュエルチェストログ, Bushueru Chesuto Rogu): The chest. The biological tissue generated by using a Bushel Gochizo boasts a high energy density and has the characteristic of generating high torque by rolling it up in a certain direction.

- Bloom Boots (ブルームブーツ, Burūmu Būtsu): The legs. By concentrating the energy of his entire body in his legs, he unleashes a finishing kick that transcends human power.
- Valenbuster finisher:
- Bushel (ブシュエル, Bushueru): Valen opens and closes the Valenbuster's Crack Jack holstered in the Buster Holder. He then triggers the Valenbuster, firing a trail of sparkles that travels into the ground under the target, where it creates a burst of Yule logs to trap them. He next delivers an orange energy chop in the shape of a sliced log cake to destroy the trapped Granute. The logs disappear after the chop lands, regardless of whether it hits the target.
Chocold Form

Chocold Form (チョコルドフォーム, Chokorudo Fōmu) is Valen's dark chocolate-based form accessed by using a Chocold Gochizo in the Valenbuster.
Valen's physical abilities are all greatly enhanced beyond his regular limits, with his punch and kick being triple that of Chocodon Form, making him on par with Gavv and Vram's base forms. He is capable of fighting tougher part-timers and Bitter Gavv on his own. However, this form has a potentially lethal side-effect as the prolonged use of Chocold strains Hanto's heart due to overstimulating his Granute Organ.
Hanto later abandons this form after the last given Chocold Gochizo was sealed up and his subsequent defection from Kenzo Suga.
Chocold Form consists of the following parts:
- Chocold Mask (チョコルドマスク, Chokorudo Masuku): The head.
- Chocold Face Bar (チョコルドフェイスバー, Chokorudo Feisu Bā): The face. The five human senses - sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell - are concentrated, and in an instant all of these abilities are enhanced beyond their limits.
- Nache Body (ナッシュボディ, Nasshu Bodi): The body. Valen is granted superhuman strength through transformation using Shoma's Gochizo.
- Chocold Chest Bar (チョコルドチェストバー, Chokorudo Chesuto Bā): The chest. The biological tissue generated by using a Chocold Gochizo temporarily exerts powerful combat abilities.
- Chocold Grab Bar (チョコルドグラブバー, Chokorudo Gurabu Bā): The arms. His striking power and rushing speed have improved significantly.
By concentrating the energy of his entire body in his legs, he unleashes a kick with tremendous power.
This form has the following finishers:
- Valenbuster finisher:
- Choco (チョコ, Choko): Valen opens the Valenbuster's Crack Jack and implants the Granute on one side of the exterior. Then, he goes to the other side to close the Crack Jack, aiming at the opponent. He then presses the Traction Trigger, firing a massive stream of molten dark chocolate at the opponent, which drowns them in the liquid before exploding. Another version of this finisher involves Valen opening and closing the Crack Jack before firing the molten stream of dark chocolate at the opponent.
Frappe Custom

- Rider Height: 201.0 cm
- Rider Weight: 91.5 kg

- Punching Power: 2.6 t
- Kicking Power: 6.5 t
- Maximum Jump Height: 5.5 m
- Maximum Running Speed: 100 m per 7.0 seconds
Frappe Custom (フラッペカスタム, Furappe Kasutamu) is Valen's chocolate frappe-based final form accessed by using the Frappeis Gochizo in the Vrastumgear.
Frappe Custom's stats are comparable to Gavv Blizzardsorbet Form but slightly lower. His combat abilities are superior to Bake but he is slightly slower and cannot jump as high. Valen can freeze his limbs to increase the strength of his punches and kicks as well as freezing objects in ice. His fatigue is instantly recovered by icing his body. The improved version of the Vrastumgear made by Dente reduces the burden of his transformation.
Due to the form's nature, the Frappeis Gochizo will eventually melt completely during battles, causing Valen to forcefully cancel his transformation. Therefore, Valen has to finish the battle as quick as possible when utilizing this form.
Frappe Custom consists of the following parts:
- Velvetex Top (ベルベテクストップ, Berubetekusu Toppu): The head.
- Velvetinger (ベルベティンガー, Berubetingā): The top of the head. The biological tissue generated by using Frappeis Gochizo is composed of fluid contained within a rigid exoskeleton. This fluid, which has a high energy density, has the ability to deflect external impacts.
- FO Indicator (FOインジケータ, Efu Ō Injikēta): The autonomic hub. It regulates the transformation system and autonomously releases the transformation when the load on the body exceeds its limits.
- Cool Chocomix Face (クールチョコミクスフェイス, Kūru Chokomikusu Feisu): The face. The five human senses - sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell - are concentrated, and combat efficiency is increased by calmly and coolly processing each of these enhanced abilities with an abundant supply of energy.
- Goldy Body (ゴルディーバディ, Gorudī Bodi): The body. It emits a golden glow due to its high energy density. Icing allows instant recovery of fatigued areas.
- Stir Swiftraw (ステアスイフトロー, Sutea Suifutorō): The special organ. It is responsible for maintaining mobility in the body, which controls the rate of neurotransmission and the speed of movement.
- Chest Tumbler (チェストタンブラー, Chesuto Tanburā): The chest. The biological tissue generated by using Frappeis Gochizo is composed of fluid contained within a rigid exoskeleton. This fluid, which has a high energy density, has the ability to deflect external impacts and allows for smooth, speedy movement.
- Frappe Mix Grab (フラッペミクスグラブ, Furappe Mikusu Gurabu): The arms. The punching power can be enhanced by putting ice on the fist through the operation of the Vrastumgear. They are also skilled at shooting using the Valenbuster and Chocodongun.
- Frappe Mix Boots (フラッペミクスブーツ, Furappe Mikusu Būtsu): The legs. The kicking power can be enhanced by putting ice on the legs through the operation of the Vrastumgear. Furthermore, by concentrating the energy of his entire body in his legs, he can unleash a tremendous deadly kick.
This form has the following finishers:
- Vrastumgear finisher:
- Frozen (フローズン, Furōzun): After pushing the Fallternator up and down once, Valen's Frappe Mix Grab & Boots will be covered in icicle-like structures that greatly enhance his punch and kick attacks.
- Freezing (フリージング, Furījingu): After pushing the Fallternator up and down twice, Valen conjures icicles from his Frappe Mix Boots that can immobilize or disrupt the enemy's footing. He then follows with a flurry of punches before finishing with an ice-covered drop kick.
- Frappeis Vortex (フラッぺいずボルテックス, Furappeizu Borutekkusu): has two variations.
- After pushing the Fallternator back up, stirring the Frappeis Gochizo, and then pushing the Fallternator back down, Valen delivers a drop kick enveloped in swirling chocolate and white energy that freezes the enemy in place by covering them with an icy structure. Finally, Valen delivers a straight punch that shatters the ice, sending the enemy away in a massive explosion.
- A simple version has Valen pushing the Fallternator back up, stirring the Frappeis Gochizo, and then pushing the Fallternator back down, Valen gathers chocolate into his right leg as he gathers orange energy and delivers a flying kick.
- Another version has Valen pushing the Fallternator up, stirring the Frappeis Gochizo, and then pushing the Fallternator back down, then jumping and delivering a split jump kick to two enemies with orange energy.
- A version has Valen pushing the Fallternator back up, stirring the Frappeis Gochizo, and then pushing the Fallternator back down, jumping into the air as chocolate and cream swirl around him as he delivers a double foot kick in orange energy.
- Another variation has Valen jumping into the air as he delivers a double foot drop kick with both legs coated in orange energy.
- Valenbuster finisher
- Choco (チョコ, Choko): After inserting the Frappe Ichiro Gochizo into Valenbuster's Setter Coffin and closing the Crack Jack, Valen pressed the Traction Trigger, delivering a rainbow-colored energy stream powerful enough to overwhelm his enemies.
The Uehouse Gochizo causes Gavv's equipment to appear all around and allows Valen to borrow them.[7]
- Range Kicking (レンジキッキング, Renji Kikkingu): The kicking power enhanced foot. Valen's foot is strengthened.
- Shuwa Punching (シュワパンチング, Shuwa Panchingu): The punching power enhanced hand. Valen's hand is strengthened.
- Gurucan Leg (グルキャンレッグ, Gurukyan Reggu)

Parfait Mode (パルフェモード, Parufe Mōdo) is Valen's chocolate parfait-based extra final form accessed by using the Chocorappa Gochizo in the Vrastumgear.[8]
In this form, Valen often delivers attacks with his fists and legs in red energy. His cape is capable to remove from his back, it will curls up automatically in the fight, not only can it restrain the enemy's limbs, but it can also manifest a massive energy construct in the shape of a parfait.
This form has the following finishers:
- Vrastumgear finisher:
- Choco Dip (チョコディップ, Choko Dippu): After pushing the Fallternator up and down once, and trapped enemy's limb with his cape, Valen manifest a parfait shaped energy on enemy's hand, the snack ingredients inside the parfait cup will fly out automatically to inflict damage on the enemy.
- Cacao Meteor (カカオメテオ, Kakao Meteo): Valen raises the Fallternator on his Vrastumgear and waits until the Chocorappa Gochizo reaches its full power. After Valen drops the Fallternator, he executes a front flip, followed by a drop kick where his feet are covered in red and yellow spiral energy, with chocolate shavings swirling around them in a tornado shape. After knocking the enemy to the ground, Valen restrains its movements and delivers a headbutt, landing a heavy blow to the enemy's head and sending it up in an explosive demise.

Mother (deceased)
Friends & Allies[]
- Shoma/Kamen Rider Gavv: Initially seeing Gavv as a lead for his investigation into the Granute that killed his mother, Hanto comes to respect him as the heroic "Kamen Rider", even defending him in front of those who saw Gavv as a monster. Hanto often ran into Gavv's civilian identity Shoma when unaware of said dual identity. Eventually, the two learn of each others' alter egos after Hanto is forced out of his transformation by the Granute Early. Having been saved by Shoma, Hanto becomes enraged that Shoma prioritized saving him over the elimination of the Granute as the longer it stays alive the more victims it will claim. Shoma ultimately convinces Hanto to live to fight another day. After their first battle with their identities revealed, Hanto allows Shoma to be on a first-name basis with him but is left unaware of Shoma's status as a Granute hybrid. After Hanto recovers from his injuries following a battle with Vram, he discovers that Shoma has since teamed up with Vram. Furthermore, learning that Shoma had lied and hid his identity as both a Granute and a member of the Stomach Family after hearing what Glotta said, Hanto is left enraged and began to include Shoma as one of the Granutes to kill. However, after they have a long talk about it, the two reconcile and he affirms his trust in Shoma. That said, finding out Shoma was present when his mother was killed caused Hanto to ask for some distance while he processed things. Later, after another talk with Shoma following the reveal of Suga's machinations on him, Hanto fully makes amends with Shoma and rebuilt their bond, this time much stronger after Shoma gave birth to the Frappeis Gochizo.
- Sachika Amane: Hanto and Sachika are acquainted as he has requested her services to assist him investigations on multiple occasions. Hanto trusts Sachika for her intel and pays Hapipare accordingly. But Sachika starts distrusting Hanto when Bitter Gavv showed up making a mess of things, as she remains at Shoma's side despite being part Granute. She also suspected of Hanto being Valen all along as she hopes that he and Shoma can make up their friendship again. Shoma finds Hanto in the streets as Sachika helps him bring Hanto to Dente for help and discovering Suga's machinations. Throughout it all, she helps the Kamen Riders in their battle against the Granutes.
- Rakia Amarga/Kamen Rider Vram: Hanto first encountered Rakia when he and Shoma were fighting Granute Choul in an attempt to free the kidnapped human presses, with Rakia intervened the Kamen Riders duo before transforming into Kamen Rider Vram, easily overpowering and defeating both Hanto and Shoma. On their second encounter, Hanto volunteered to fight and distract Rakia in order for Shoma to pursue and defeat Granute Chooul, with Hanto accusing the pudding Kamen Rider of being one of the Stomach Family during their duel, greatly enraging the latter and resulting in Rakia severely injuring Hanto with a devastating finisher. Upon getting a new form after Dente replicated Rakia's Vrastumgear, he thanked Rakia by giving him rocks, to the point where he was shocked after finding out he eats rocks like his kind does. Despite having made amends, their relationship is still a bit rocky, as Hanto and Rakia still argue and don't get along too well due to one’s’ attitudes and not just by race. Eventually, the two got to know each other better sharing their losses of loved ones and start truly fight together against Granute Ripper.
- Dente Stomach: While his interactions with him were limited, he was willing to help him for Shoma's sake, and, learning of his surgery, he developed a modified Vrastumgear to allow him to fight with less strain on his body, and utilize the newly created Frappeis Gochizo. He would then thank Dente by gifting him with cookies.
- Soji Shioya: Hanto's late mentor and father figure. His demise became Hanto's motivation to fight against the Granutes. After knowing that Suga is behind Soji’s untimely demise, Hanto successfully avenged him by defeating Kenzo Suga as Valen Frappe Custom.
- Lizel Jaldak: to be added
Enemies[]
- Stomach Family
- Lango Stomach: Though never met, Lango was the one who killed his mother, according to Shoma's memories.
- Glotta Stomach: The first Stomach Family member whom Hanto encountered. Hanto judged her as a scary woman and tried to be as polite as possible. However, Glotta kicked him in the head and mocked him for being a human which angered Hanto as he discovered Glotta to be a Granute. Resulting in Hanto transforming into Kamen Rider Valen before engaging Glotta, with him being easily overpowered by her and was eventually defeated.
- Nyelv Stomach: Hanto was furious upon learning of Nyelv's collaboration with Suga to plan his mentor's death as a means of making him Valen.
- Agents: He staked out two Agents preparing to submit several Human Presses back to the Granute World and later rarely taking them down.
- Granutes:
- Granute Otake: The Granute that killed Soji Shioya by Nyelv's request. After his Granute surgery, Hanto immediately encountered the Granute and took revenge by transforming into Kamen Rider Valen and finishing him off.
- Granute Rojoe: While Hanto was dead set in eliminating Rojoe, the latter unexpectedly gave Hanto more information regarding Stomach Inc.
- Kamen Rider Bitter Gavv: Gavv's replicated counterpart.
- Bitter Gavv: At first thought it was Shoma himself after discovering him being a Granute hybrid & a member of the Stomach family, but starts to realize he was wrong and that it was a clone after hearing of Shoma's origins. Hanto would use the Chocold Gochizos against him, only to find that his so-called ally Suga was actually manufacturing clones of Shoma for his experiments & that he was used as a guinea pig.
- Magen/Kamen Rider Bitter Gavv: The second Bitter Gavv who Nyelv modified.
- Kenzo Suga/Kamen Rider Bake/Kamen Rider Bitter Gavv: Hanto first met Kenzo after witnessing Gavv's victory against Granute Bon. Despite Kenzo's eccentric nature, the scientist was more than willing to divulge information about Granutes to Hanto, to the point that he ultimately created the Valenbuster to allow Hanto to carry out his acts of revenge against the Granutes as Kamen Rider Valen. Everything was going so well for him, until he discovers Suga's dark secret in creating the Shoma clones, as well as how he was behind the death of Hanto's mentor. Eventually, Hanto successfully defeats Suga after the former resolved to not let Suga’s insanity harm anyone else and avenge Soji in the process.
- Jaldak Family:
- Bocca Jaldak: to be added
- Jiip Jaldak/Stomach/Kamen Rider Bitter Gavv: Jiip doesn't care much for Hanto when Granute Rojoe captured the journalist instead of Shoma. Valen would ultimately kill Jiip when he sacrifices himself to protect Lizel from Valen Frappe Custom's deathblow.

Behind the Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
- Hanto Karakida is portrayed by Yusuke Hino (日野 友輔, Hino Yūsuke). As a child, he is portrayed by Yura Kimura (木村 優来, Kimura Yura). In regards to Hanto's character, Hino was told by director Teruaki Sugihara that Hanto lives life with a sense of freedom, and was told to differentiate Hanto's two personas, one being a freelance journalist capable of making a fake smile, and one confronting a Granute with the intent of "crushing them". After learning the reason why, that having something to do with Hanto's past, Hino maintained this characterization of loneliness by employing a degree of method acting in which he avoided seeing his own family as much as possible.[12]
- As Kamen Rider Valen, his suit-actor is Kotaro Kaji (鍜治 洸太朗, Kaji Kōtarō) in his second Rider role, and first since Kamen Rider Dark Ghost in Kamen Rider Zi-O, having portrayed mostly monsters and Rider-esque warriors since his debut.
Etymology[]
- Valen's name is derived from Valentine
(バレンタイン, Barentain), referencing the tradition of gifting chocolate on Valentine's Day
.
- The word Valentine originally derives from the Latin word valens, meaning "strong, vigorous, healthy".
- Hanto's surname contains the kanji for "spicy" (辛い, Karai), which also describes acrid tastes such as bitterness from high cacao chocolates. His given name contains "bond" (絆). This represents how Hanto is characterized for much of the series, showing a bitter attitude towards the people who harmed those he bonded with.
Concept Art[]
to be added
Notes[]
- Unlike most Kamen Riders, Valen does not possess transparent eyes.
- In episode 7, Hanto considers eight different ideas for his Kamen Rider name before settling on "Valen":
- Choco (チョコ, Choko)
- Cacao (カカオ, Kakao)
- Cocoa (ココア, Kokoa)
- Chocolat (ショコラ, Shokora)
- Nama Choco (生チョコ, Nama Choko) (Japanese for a mixture of chocolate, cream, and liquor, as used in ganache and other confections)
- Ita Choco (板チョコ, Ita Choko) (Japanese for chocolate bar)
- Bitter (ビター, Bitā)
- Coincidentally, this name would later resurface in the form of Bitter Gavv.
- Valentine (バレンタイン, Barentain)
- Like with Gavv's Bushel Form, the gloves of Valen's Bushel Form are repainted from the Monster Gloves. They, along with the shoulder and chest armor, are repainted from Gavv's version.
- Valen Chocold Form is identical to his Chocodon Form, with glitch-like patterns on the white chocolate parts on the suit. The same goes for the theorical Tirol Choco Form which adds Tirol Choco packagings on the head and chest chocolate parts.
- "The truth is bitter" is inscribed on Hanto's ring.[13][14]
- Parfait Mode's suit reuses Frappe Custom's undersuit and repaints Kamen Rider Gavv Blizzardsorbet Form's armor pieces in addition to extending the chestpiece's collar. Despite resembling a helmet of his previous forms, however, Parfait Mode's helmet is a new and bespoke design. Parfait Mode also adds a new cape, a feature not present on any prior form of Valen.
