Ghost True Great Eye

Great Eye's true form

The Great Eye (グレートアイ, Gurēto Ai) is a omniscient and omnipotent entity which serves as the root of all power in the Gamma World, manifesting as a supernatural dimensional phenomenon which appears when someone gathers the 15 heroic Ghost Eyecons together before the monolith. It is able to grant a wish of a Ghost Driver user, including bring a dead person back to life. The Great Eye is protected by the Gammaizers, meaning they can control whether the Great Eye can be summoned or not.

As well as granting its power to the Emperor of the Gamma World, the Great Eye's power is also hosted by the mysterious twins, Frey and Freya, who are actually the humanoid avatars of the Great Eye itself. [Duel! Words from the Swordsman!]

The Great Eye also formed the basis of the Eyecon system manifested by Edith, without which the system would cease to function.

Character History

Choosing Adonis

The Great Eye was discovered by the people who would become the Gamma after they arrived in the Gamma World. As recounted by Edith, the Great Eye had chosen Adonis, who would become the Emperor of the Gamma, connecting with its power to protect their world. After losing, among many others, his wife and eldest son to disease, Adonis fell to despair and began to wish for a world where those tragedies would never occur again. To fulfill the dream of his friend, Edith proposed a system which he manifested using the Great Eye. Via the seperation of consciousness into Eyecons, and the permanent preservation of the body in life-support capsules, Edith achieved a form of immortality for his people which was hoped to lead to the creation of a "perfect world". To prevent unnecessary contact with the Great Eye, Edith created a set of fifteen artificial intelligences known as the Gammaizers to protect it. However, at that point everything started to go wrong as the world would prove to be far from perfect, with flaws in the life support system appearing as people began to perish in their capsules while Edith was unable to do anything to prevent it, having been stopped by the Gammaizers he created. Reviving Kanon

The Great Eye was unlocked by Chikara Saionji when he gathered the 15 heroic Ghost Eyecons, only for him to be killed due to not having a Ghost Driver. It was subsequently contacted by Takeru Tenkuji/Kamen Rider Ghost, who wished to fully bring Kanon Fukami, reduced to the form of a Gamma Eyecon after having been lost in the world of Gamma ten years ago, back to life, despite having originally collected the Eyecons to complete his own resurrection. The Great Eye obliged and restored Kanon's human form, which resulted in the 15 Ghost Eyecons being seperated, leaving the Great Eye dormant until they would be reassembled and brought to the Monolith again. Riders' Souls

Through its humanoid avatars, Frey and Freya, the Great Eye provided Kamen Riders Ghost and Specter with the power of their legendary Kamen Rider predecessors, with Frey initially presenting himself as an antagonist by summoning revived adversaries of past Kamen Riders and robbing Ghost and Specter of their Ghost Eyecons while Freya provided them with the relevant items which allowed them to connect with and unseal the Rider Parka Ghosts, granting them use of their Damashii through the Rider Eyecons. This ploy's purpose was ultimately revealed to be the defeat of the Gamma Ultima, Xibalba, who who revealed himself before absorbing Frey and Freya, granting himself the enhanced Gamma Ultima Fire form. He was soon defeated, however, by Ghost and Specter as they used the combined power of the six Rider Eyecons together as intended, freeing Frey and Freya before destroying him. Through this quest, Takeru and Makoto got no answer as to who exactly Freya and Frey were at the time, but did learn through collecting the Rider Eyecons that they can overcome many challenges and that if any villain plans to make their world despair, they can fight to the very end to protect people as long as they have their friends and hold on to hope, that kind of heart being what makes a Kamen Rider. The twins' work done, Frey returned the Riders' Ghost Eyecons to them before merging with Freya who, telling the Riders that the "real enemy" is just waking up, combined the six Rider Eyecons they collected along with the first ten Heisei Rider Eyecons which she carried to create a single Kamen Rider 45 Ghost Eyecon before returning to her source. The last six Rider Eyecons would prove to be of use to Ghost and Specter during their battle with Nova Shocker, [Kamen Rider 1 (movie)] and Ghost would ultimately use the combined Kamen Rider 45 Ghost Eyecon to dispel the "real enemy", the Dark Mind itself. [Last Chapter: 1 & Heisei]

Connecting with Adel

[Conciliation! All Resolutions!]

After the Gammaizers were destroyed trying to forcibly assimilate a reformed Adel, the copies of them from Copy Makoto's Deep Specter Eyecon used Freya to finally assimilate with the Great Eye, taking the form of the Great Eyezer. [Gather! Chain of Grief!]

Takeru's spiritual humanoid

Takeru's spiritual humanoid

The Great Eyezer returned to the human world through the Monolith. It was attacked by Ghost Mugen Damashii, but survived unscathed all six of his Omega Drive weapon finishers in rapid succession, then knocked him out of his transformation. It separated from its Parka, which grew into a giant eye, before joining back into it to become Eyezer Giant. It used a beam from its single eye to turn the people of the city into souls and absorb them. Eyezer Giant was defeated by Ghost's seventh and final Mugen weapon finisher, Love Bomber, which reverted the Great Eyezer to a Parka-less human size, and with the help of the 15 Heroic Parkas, it was destroyed, defeating the Gammaizers for good. The Great Eye itself then formed over Takeru and the Heroic Parkas became the gateway inside, Takeru speaking with Freya before using the Eye's power to return the people of the city the giant Eyezer had taken. The Eye then left Earth, flying away into space in the physical form of a giant golden eye with six feathered wings, leaving behind Takeru a glowing humanoid form that, when he touched it, returned him to life with a physical body. As it left, the Eyecon System the Gamma had been using lost power and shut down, all Eyecon-based bodies fading and its users awakening from their capsules. [Infinity! Power of Humanity!]

Behind the Scenes

Portrayal

The Great Eye is voiced by Yui Fujimaki (藤巻 勇威, Fujimaki Yui). As Frey and Freya, it is portrayed by Ryo Ogawa (小川 涼, Ogawa Ryō). As the Great Eyezer, it is co-voiced by Sayaka Ohara (大原 さやか, Ōhara Sayaka) with Yasuhiko Imai (今井 靖彦, Imai Yasuhiko) serving as its suit actor.

Notes

  • Similar to other Gamma, Great Eye is analogus to the Mugen Ghost Eyecon, as both served as the turnback plot devices of their respective factions and the greatest and the most antique power of their forces.
  • The summoning and using method of the Great Eye is similar to the Shenron in Dragon Ball series.
    • The Great Eyezer is also similar to the Shadow Dragons from Dragon Ball GT, both being powerful entities capable of granting wishes turned into the final enemy of their respective series.
  • The Great Eyezer is a repainted version of Kamen Rider Extremer, replacing the Extremer Driver with a Gammaizer insignia.
  • The Great Eye's true form resembles the Golden Snitch from Harry Potter franchise, as well as Karuma seeds (vaguely) from Zenki anime series.
