Etymology[]
- The name comes from the portmanteau of the words Giga and Bahamut.
Notes[]
- In stark contrast with this design, Bahamut is actually a "world fish" in Arabic mythology, and wasn't popularized as a dragonic creature until it was introduced in Dungeons and Dragons in 1974.
- This transition could also be a reference to the famous Chinese legend The Dragon Gate, which states that while many carp swim upstream against the river's strong current, few are capable or brave enough for the final leap over the waterfall. Those who successfully make the jump are transformed into a powerful dragon.
