This article is about a writer in Kamen Rider Gaim. |
Gen Urobuchi (虚淵 玄, Urobuchi Gen) is a Japanese writer who served as head writer for Kamen Rider Gaim alongside his coworkers at Nitroplus.
He is best known for his work on Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Fate/Zero. Due to his dark style of writing, he has earned the nickname "the Urobutcher" from English-speaking fans.
Biography[]
Urobucchi joined Nitroplus straight out of college and wrote the story for Phantom of Inferno. After writing Kikokugai: The Cyber Slayer, he was promoted to production manager and set the groundwork for games such as Hello, world and Demonbane. Saya no Uta: The Song of Saya would be the first work he had personally written in four years.
From 2006 to 2007, Urobuchi was in charge of a collaboration with Type-Moon to develop Fate/zero. In 2008, Urobuchi was asked by manga artist Rei Hiroe to write light novel for his manga series Black Lagoon, while Hiroe provided the art.
After having been in charge of series composition and scriptwriting for the anime Blassreiter, Urobuchi became more prevalent in the anime scene. In 2011, he was the scriptwriter for the original anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and took inspiration from works written by Stephen King and Madoka Magica producer Akiyuki Shinbo's previous credits such as Hidamari Sketch and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, to create his characters.
In 2012, his success on Madoka Magica lead him to being recruited to write for Psycho-Pass.
Personal Life[]
