Gakuto Oshiro (大城 ガクト, Ōshiro Gakuto), better known mononymously as Gackt (ガクト, Gakuto) is a Japanese musician, singer-songwriter, actor, and author.
Gackt performed Journey Through the Decade, the opening theme song of Kamen Rider Decade. He also portrayed Joji Yuki/Riderman in Kamen Rider Decade: All Riders vs. Dai-Shocker.
Biography[]
Gackt began playing the piano at the age of three and was raised on classical and enka music. In high school, he became interested in modern pop rock and played drums in amateur bands. His first professional musical efforts came in the form of being the frontman of a few bands which were successful to some degree.
His solo career was launched in 1999, having released music alongside several popular artists used in various Japanese media.
In 2013, he joined the Indonesian tokusatsu BIMA Satria Garuda
, and played Noir in the show.
He is also well-known of providing the voice of his VOCALOID Camui Gakupo (神威 がくぽ, Kamui Gakupo), known as Gakupoid, in the VOCALOID series.
Health Issues[]
On August 6, 2021, Gact admitted to his agency that he was feeling unwell, with doctors discovering he had early onset symptoms of a neurological disease. He was rushed to the hospital before his symptoms became life threatening, he had lost significant weight during his illness. Gackt suffered from involuntary muscle spasms which made it hard for him to speak or sing, thus his agency canceled his tours indefinitely until he recovers.[1]
On May 17, 2022, it was announced that he was not fully recovered but will resume activities by the end of the year.
