Futo Tantei[src] (風都探偵,Fūto Tantei)[1], distributed as Futo Detective for some international markets, is a Japanese manga series that serves as a sequel to the 2009 series Kamen Rider W.
Small happiness, great misfortune, the town where wind always blows... Futo. Shotaro Hidari and Philip work together in Narumi Detective Office, solving various cases and bringing happiness to the people of this "windy city".
The masterpiece story of Kamen Rider W continues... in the form of manga!
In Chapter 81, it was told that Futo Day, celebrating the rebuilding of Futo Tower a year after its destruction, was held for years.
It is stated in Chapter 104 that the Gaia Memories have been around for at least 20 years. Strangely, considering what was revealed in Who the K Needs/The Devil's Tail[2], this would mean that at least 8 years have passed after Museum's destruction.
Retcons[]
The events of Begins Night is noticeably portrayed in a different manner from what is shown in Movie War 2010. For instance, in the latter, at no point does Shotaro talk with Sokichi about W's Gaia Memories when infiltrating Museum's base.
In chapter 123, Philip reveals that W's Memory Break function was something he created per Shotaro's wishes. He then surmises that Shroud added this to the Accel Driver to honor her son's decision. Needless to say, this retcon strongly contrasts with the Lost Driver's capabilities.
In Japan, Futo Tantei is serialized in Weekly Big Comic Spirits and are collected into multiple volumes by Shogakugan.
In Hong Kong, the series was localized starting on January 2019 by Jade Dynasty.
In Taiwan, the series was localized starting on September 2019 by Tong Li Publishing Co..
In Indonesia, the series was localized starting on January 2022 by m&c! Publishing in their Akasha collection, under the title "Futo Detective". This release suffers from censorship, such as during the heavy nudity scenes. Starting in Volume 5, the interview section is removed due to the request of the Japanese publisher.[3]
In France, the series was localized starting on July 7, 2022 (after a postponement from May 2022) by Michel Lafon in their Kazoku collection, under the title "Fuuto PI".
In keeping with the tone of being a sequel to the show, each chapter is labeled with a letter detailing a plot point of the story and something involving the client of the case or character like the television episodes of the series.
In a variance to set the labeling apart from the main show, the manga's chapter titles have a lower case letter rather than a capital.
At Japan World Heroes, Renn Kiriyama stated at a Q&A Panel he received a copy of the first chapter as a gift. He was shocked the manga had a nude girl in it and humorously stated he wished the TV show did that.[4]
Both Masaki Suda and Renn Kiriyama were featured in character on the front cover of Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine's 44th issue, which was published in October 2017. The special issue also featured interviews from Hideaki Tsukada and series head writer Riku Sanjo.[5]
The manga's fifth volume featured promotions from Yuki Kimisawa dressed as his character Kirihiko Sudo. The volume itself was released with extra items such as a DX FangJoker Double Ridewatch.
The Indonesian logo for the manga was decided by a readers poll from between 2 choices.[6]
