Shout Factory

Shout! Studios is a distribution arm of Shout! Factory, an American home video and film distribution company. Founded in 2002 as Retropolis Entertainment, they began by distributing music and record labels, later expanding their operations to including classic movies and TV series from the 1980s and 1990s and beyond that have not yet been distributed in the DVD or Blu-Ray format.

History[]

In 2012, Shout! Factory began touching Tokusatsu territory when they signed with Saban BrandsIcon-crosswiki to distribute Power RangersIcon-crosswiki on home media in North America. Through this deal, Shout! also acquired the rights to distribute other Saban properties, being VR Troopers, Big Bad Beetleborgs and Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. In 2014, Shout! announced that they had signed with Toei Company to release Kyoryu Sentai ZyurangerIcon-crosswiki on DVD, and were the official distributor for Sentai in North America until 2019 when Saban sold Power Rangers to HasbroIcon-crosswiki.

In 2017, Shout! Factory announced the formation of Shout! Studios to develop and distribute original content.[1]

In March 2020, Shout! announced TokuSHOUTsu, a streaming service dedicated to offering VOD of the Super Sentai shows it had already licensed, in addition to their on-day-of acquisitions of both the original Kamen Rider and Ultraman LeoIcon-crosswiki.[2] Several Super Sentai shows were available to stream at launch, while other shows from the franchise and Kamen Rider continue to be added periodically.[3]

In addition to the TV shows, a talk-show titled Let's Talk Toku premiered on the channel, featuring YouTuber Squall Charlson as the host. The show would feature Jason Narvy as one of its guests and a "Backlot style" docu-series on the history of Power Rangers.
