The Invasion of Leawood is the thirty-seventh aired, but fortieth and final produced episode of Saban's Masked Rider.

Synopsis[]

Count Dregon issues an ultimatum to Leawood: Masked Rider must surrender or his newest Insectovore, Bruticon, will destroy the city. Dex must team up with the Masked Rider Warriors to save the city from this new menace.

Plot[]

As Count Dregon's Spiderbase nears Leawood's airspace, he orders his minions to prepare his Arrest Beam and seize all communication frequencies. At the Stewart house, Dex and his family receive an ultimatum from Dregon on TV: Masked Rider must surrender within one hour or his newest Insectovore, known as Bruticon (who is revealed to rule a distant galaxy conquered by his master), will arrive to destroy the city. Molly asks Dex whether or not he'll surrender, while Albee is almost confident that Dex could defeat this new threat. However, Dex remains silent and deep in thought.

As the Stewarts and Ferbus leave for Leawood High School to deliver food to the citizens who have likely taken shelter, Dex communicates with his grandfather regarding the situation. The King of Edenoi warns his grandson that Bruticon is more powerful than even Masked Rider, but then explains that there may be hope: If he can call the Masked Rider Warriors (the Masked Riders who came before Dex) across time and space to help, Dex may have a chance of saving the Earth.

In an unknown location, the Masked Rider Warriors have received King Lexian's distress call, and all in attendance vow to band together and help save the Earth from Bruticon.

Meanwhile, at Leawood High School, the citizens all worry about Count Dregon's ultimatum when, upon hijacking the airwaves again, Dregon suddenly informs the city that Bruticon is on his way to Earth, traveling as a giant fireball at the speed of light, and also that Bruticon will destroy the Radio Astronomy Center on Harbor Island, while Double Face orders his Commandoids to prepare for the inevitable arrival of Masked Rider. And, true to Dregon's word, as the citizens evacuate the school, the aforementioned giant fireball destroys all of Harbor Island. Barbara offers to give Dex a ride to the harbor, but he protests, saying he can't put them in danger, to which she responds that they're already in danger.

At the harbor, Dex confronts Bruticon, who orders him to surrender or be destroyed, to which Dex unsurprisingly refuses. Bruticon escapes the harbor, and Dex calls out to the sky, asking if the Masked Rider Warriors are coming.

As the Stewarts drive away from the harbor, a news report comes over the radio that Count Dregon's forces have seized control of the business district in downtown Leawood, and the National Guard has been deployed in an attempt to defuse the situation. However, Dex can sense Bruticon, whose fireball form lands in a mountain range, and orders Hal to pull over. Dex steps out of the van and decides that he can't just sit by and do nothing, Masked Rider Warriors or not. And so, he transforms into Masked Rider and confronts Bruticon and Double Face. Unfortunately, Bruticon easily overpowers our hero, and he and Double Face are about to defeat him when the Masked Rider Warriors arrive and use a transporter device to escape with the fallen Dex. Double Face is confused at the sight and thought of having more Masked Riders to deal with, but Bruticon declares that it doesn't matter; he will destroy them all.

The Masked Rider Warriors take Dex to a warehouse, where he regains consciousness and is informed by Masked Rider Warrior Leader and another unnamed Warrior that they can defeat Bruticon if they work together. Others introduce themselves as Masked Rider Warrior Commander, V3, Riderman, Masked Rider X, Amazon, Strongman, and Z-Cross. Dex offers his thanks for their arrival and tells them all of Earth will be in their debt, but then hears Double Face's voice, ordering that he come out and face him alone. Dex reveals himself, followed by the other Masked Riders, who battle the Commandoids. Warrior Leader tells Dex that he can battle Double Face, with the guarantee of a fair fight, and Dex immediately transforms back into Masked Rider and battles Double Face. After Dex damages him with a Rider Kick and disarms him with his Electro Saber, Double Face retreats upon realizing he is outmatched.

Meanwhile, Bruticon is battling the National Guard in another part of Leawood, but is later confronted by the Masked Rider Warriors, followed by Dex, who has joined the battle thanks to Combat Chopper. All the Masked Riders launch a Warrior Punch, but their punches have little effect on Bruticon, who transforms into his fireball form and overwhelms them all. Warrior Leader suggests they fall back and regroup, but Dex insists they have to keep fighting and becomes Super Gold to protect himself from the fireball's heat. Unfortunately, while Dex is able to land some solid blows, even this is not enough to defeat Bruticon, who overheats Super Gold and causes him to revert to his humanoid form. The remaining Masked Riders continue the battle, while Dex summons a torrent of water to cool himself down and then transforms into Super Blue. Dex tells the others that if he can liquefy and get inside Bruticon, he can destroy him from within. Another torrent of water distracts Bruticon and gives Dex an opening to implement his plan. Once inside Bruticon, Dex uses his Blue Saber to destroy the Insectovore's vital functions and cause him to explode. The aftershock from Bruticon's explosion electrocutes Dregon's Spiderbase, which leaves Leawood's airspace as Dex offers his thanks to his fellow Masked Riders for helping him save Earth.

That night, Dex enjoys some quiet time with his family, but then decides to thank his grandfather for his life on Earth, his family, his powers, and sending the Masked Rider Warriors to aid him in his recent battle. King Lexian informs his grandson that someday, he will have a son who will also become a Masked Rider and continue the legacy of Masked Rider Warriors. Dex smiles and responds, "Someday, Grandfather. Someday."

Notes[]

  • In production order, this was the final episode of Masked Rider. In airing order, it wasn't.
  • The Showa Era Riders appeared in this episode, but Saban did indeed plan to remove them and replace them with the Power Rangers. This was changed due to low budget.[Citation needed]
