Drive Saga: Kamen Rider Chaser (ドライブサーガ 仮面ライダーチェイサー, Doraibu Sāga Kamen Raidā Cheisā) is a Japanese superhero film that serves as the first installment of the Kamen Rider Drive Saga series of V-Cinema films set within the continuity of Kamen Rider Drive. In the film, Chase hunts down a vengeful Roidmude that he once defeated in the past, while Shinnosuke conducts a joint police investigation with Ryu Terui/Kamen Rider Accel from Kamen Rider W.

A special edition of the film was released alongside a special DX Break Gunner (Drive Saga ver.) (Contains Chase's voice) and a new Viral Core called Rhino Super (ライノスーパー, Raino Sūpā), both of which appear in the film.

Synopsis[]

Roidmude 051, whom Chase defeated before both as Kamen Rider Protodrive and Mashin Chaser, returns as a robber and leaves a woman named Hinako injured. Chase decides look after her brother Hiroshi after she gets hospitalized, as they remind him of Kiriko and Go.

Because Chase does not show any emotions, Hiroshi, who is mildly sociopathic, does not trust him. Chase wishes that he can become a real human and feel the full extent of human emotions when suddenly, the Angel Roidmude appears. She has golden wings - a sign that she already achieved Ultimate Evolution. She grants Chase the emotions he wanted.

The Special Investigation Unit is surprised with a completely different Chase who can now express emotions like a human. However, as he learns more, he becomes concerned about Angel's actions and her wish to create a peaceful world--a world that differs from what Heart and Brain want to create, and thus puts the Roidmudes at odds with each other.

Meanwhile, while Shinnosuke Tomari is working on the case of 051, he goes to a nearby town where he meets a man named Ryu Terui.

Plot[]

The film begins with a flashback, in which Roidmude 000, as Protozero, is re-activated by Krim Steinbelt in a form of Drive Driver. Protozero seems to be in a crucified position while this is happening. Krim explains to Protozero that the Roidmudes had rebelled, and killed him along with Tenjuro Banno. Protozero despises the Roidmudes’ actions who were supposed to protect humanity, but instead now want to destroy it. Krim states that Protozero was the prototype of Roidmudes, with an infallible sense of justice, and pleads for Protozero to become Protodrive to save humanity, to which Protozero agrees.

After Protozero transforms into Protodrive, he begins to fight the Roidmudes during the Global Freeze (albeit he can't destroy the cores). One of Protodrive's targets is Roidmude 051, who is intoxicated by greed of human money. Protodrive manages to defeat 051, but his core survives and escapes. At first, Protodrive gains the upper hand during his fight with the Plain roidmudes. However, his encounter with Heart ends in utter defeat. Protozero loses Krim and his memory after Freeze, Heart & Brain alter it during a surgery to turn him into Mashin chaser.

Now as Mashin Chaser, Protozero becomes the Grim Reaper to maintain order within the Roidmudes by executing traitors and other Roidmudes who needed to be put in check. Many flashbacks of the events Chase experienced during the series are shown, as he is shown fighting and executing mutliple Roidmudes. Among them is 051, who was once again overcome by his greed for money. Later, Mashin Chaser, while using Triple Tune, is defeated by Drive Type Formula's Trailer Impact finisher (Using Trailer Cannon). Kiriko later finds Chase alive, struggling with his injuries after the battle.

Back to the present, Chase is awakaned from his trance by Kiriko. She asks him if he was alright, to which Chase responds that he is. Kiriko reports that there is an incident, and Chase manages to go to the crime scene, transformed as Kamen Rider Chaser.

Surprisingly, the one causing the incident is none other than 051, due to his same, insatiable greed of money. One of the bank customers, Hinako Tamiya accidentally saw 051's true form as a Roidmude. 051 then decides to finish Hinako off, but he gets stopped by Chaser. Using the Break Gunner, Chaser manages to fight equally with 051. 051 sees the Break Gunner and knows that Chaser is the Grim Reaper, to which Chaser reminds him he is repeating the same mistakes even after being reset.

After exchanging gun shots, 051 decides to attack Hinako by firing at her left arm and leg, rendering Chaser in total disbelief and rage. However, just before Chaser could retaliate, a mysterious silver feather manages to hit 051's gunned-arm, sending an electric wave upon contact, leaving 051 no choice but to retreat after he assumes that the one who shot the feather was one of Chaser's allies.

The one who shot the feather was a female Roidmude, and that Roidmude states that she is Chaser's friend, as well as that of the defeated Roidmudes before she takes her leave. Not too long after, Shinnosuke and Go as Kamen Riders Drive and Mach arrive. Chaser reports the current situation to them, and asks them to go after 051, while he takes an injured Hinako to the hospital.

At the hospital, Chase apologizes to Hinako since he couldn't protect her. Hinako states that she might've died if Chase didn't save her. Moments later, Hinako's brother, Hiroshi Tamiya shows up. Hiroshi asks if Chase was her boyfriend, much to her chagrin. Hinako explains that Chase is the one who saved her and he is Kamen Rider Chaser. When Chase asks if Hiroshi is afraid of him, Hinako explains that Hiroshi is an introvert, and he always opens up to her since they lost their parents. Hinako scolds him for his dependence towards her. Making Chase realize that the siblings remind him of Kiriko and Go, he decides to protect Hiroshi to atone for his failure of saving Hinako.

Hiroshi finds Chase creepy, and expresses he's almost like a mannequin, which shocks him to hear since he was also called a mannequin by two policewomen after he took his driver's license photo. Chase then tried to force smile in order to prove that he wasn't a mannequin, but this artificial smile just further increases Hiroshi’s distrust toward him, resulting in him accidentally crushing his driver's license to bits.

Meanwhile, Brain is stalking Medic at a library, who is currently researching ways to get Heart's attention and love. He also wants to get Heart's attention, so he exits the library after avoiding some children. As he's arriving to where Heart is, he sees him having an argument with another Roidmude. She is Roidmude 099, and she's arguing with Heart about the best way to reach the Over-Evolved State and their leadership. 099 claims that Heart's method will bring the Roidmudes to their extinction. She also declares that she is the salvation of Roidmudes and that she had changed some Roidmudes’ beliefs. Heart notices that several Roidmudes are already following 099. She then reveals her true form and new name, Angel, before leaving. Many Roidmudes then start leaving Heart, including 051 who recently revived.

The next day, Chase asks Krim and Rinna to implant some human emotions to him. While relaxing with drinks and taking in the solar eclipse on the roof, Krim and Rinna jokingly say that he's malfunctioning after fighting with 108. Rinna reminds him he already copied a human form, at which moment there's a brief flashback of Chase copying Koichi Kano as he explains Brain suggested to get a human form. Chase explains he chose not to copy his personality and emotions too. Krim and Rinna are more focused on the solar eclipse than what Chase is saying, but Krim explains to Chase that he was programmed with a sense of justice, and to put any more emotions, would bring risks into his programming. Rinna, while still being fascinated more by the eclipse than the conversation, points out that many Roidmudes went berserk because Tenjuro Banno implanted negative emotions in them, and that being human has its downsides too. Krim assures Chase he doesn't need to worry, and that he's more just than a human ever could be. Nevertheless, Chase still wants a human heart.

As he is making his way downstairs, Chase receives a feather that is used by Angel; this feather's color is gold, with red tint (Dubbed as Feather Circuit). The golden feather injects him with something that makes Chase hallucinate about him having human emotions. Angel then appears and explains how she received her Over-Evolved State by copying the emotions and desires of the human she originally copied, a psychologist called Shouko Hazama, who had devoted her life to finding ways to repair damage to the human psyche before she died. By becoming Angel, 099 gained the ability to give human emotions to Roidmudes. Chase doesn't believe her. But she suddenly strips off her clothes and shows that she also used a feather on herself, before implanting a feather on Chase’s body, granting him the emotions he desired.

Meanwhile, Shinnosuke, Go, Kiriko and Krim are drinking orange juice, cola, iced tea, and milk respectively while discussing that 051 managed to flee. Chase then appears and greets all of them His personality is drastically different now, cheerfully smiling and laughing while talking to them. This sudden change in his personality shocks all of them, and causes them to spit their drinks out into Go, who is sitting in the middle of all of them. After comically apologizing to him, Chase continues talking to them, which only further disturbs them. Chase then asks for them to handle things without him while he looks after Hiroshi. They reluctantly agree and watch him leave. Inwardly, Chase expresses his joy at now being indistinguishable from a human. Mr. Belt expresses his concern and tells Shinnosuke and the others that he will talk to Chase.

Chase, now with his new human emotions, takes Hiroshi shopping for basketball gear and persuades him into playing with him to cheer him up. While at first reluctant, Hiroshi eventually starts finding fun in it, which further overjoys Chase and Hiroshi's sister, who is sitting by in her wheelchair watching them play. Nearby, Mr. Belt observes what Chase is doing and comments on how happy he looks. He then receives a call from Kiriko.

She explains that she is at a crime scene, where a body was found right at the border of Tokyo and Futo. There is a holdup in the investigation because the police departments of both cities are fighting over the jurisdiction. Shinnosuke and Go have a rather awkward discussion with Futo Police Captain, Ryu Terui. They are hilariously overwhelmed by his intense personality and presence. Terui explains his suspicion that the victim's death was caused by an usage of a Gaia Memory, which his department specifically investigates, so nobody else can touch the corpse until he's able to determine this. Shinnosuke asks him for a joint investigation with the Metro Police Department, to which Terui only reminds him not to question him.

Back to where Chase is with Hiroshi and his sister, 051 suddenly appears and goes berserk. Chase is unable to transform into Kamen Rider Chaser, and Krim explains to him that this is due to the system being incompatible with Angel’s feather's changes to his programming that allowed him human emotions. Krim then suggsts he transform into Proto Drive instead, but Angel appears and claims that will not work either, so she gives Chase the Rhino Super Viral Core. Using that, he manages to transform into Super Mashin Chaser and fight 051. The transformation causes Chase to have a more aggresive fighting style, with a viciousness he didn't have even when he was acting as the Grim Reaper. This disturbs Hiroshi and his sister, who had been watching everything unfold.

This destructive personality while transformed causes Super Mashin Chaser to destroy 051 for good this time, instead of letting the core live. Heart then shows up and reveals Angel's true intent to put Roidmudes under her control by ripping and absorbing their cores, increasing her power. This causes Chase to question his decision, as Brain and Heart use their Over-Evolved State to fight with Angel to no avail. Chase then decides to protect Heart and Brain instead. They all flee using Brain’s power to create clones using his neurotoxin.

Chase, Brain and Heart then have a deep discussion about their own goals and reasons for being. Heart asks Brain to remove the feather from Chase, but he initially refuses, saying a human had finally expressed gratitude to him. Brain tells him that he'd rather die than accept Angel as a leader, and Heart reminds him that Shinnosuke and the others are grateful to have him as an ally. He also reminds Chase that he was never the type of individual to fight for his own sake. A golden ring sent by Angel then suddenly appears and pierces Heart, extracting his core from his body. Chase, determined to fight for his allies now, tells Brain to protect Heart's body and goes after Angel.

Meanwhile, after it's revealed that the body found between Futo and Tokyo is a second copy of the same criminal. Shinnosuke, Go and Terui find out that the culprit of the murder before was Roidmude 077. It then reveals its true Roidmude form and uses the Beast Gaia Memory to transform into a Beast Roidmude-Dopant hybrid. Shinnosuke and Go transform as Kamen Riders Drive and Mach respectively to battle it, but they're initially unsuccesful. However, Terui decides to transform into Kamen Rider Accel and join the battle. Drive and Accel then use their Double Rider Kick to destroy 077. Accel orders them to go and help Chase, to which Drive & Mach comply.

Angel manages to absorb Heart's Core, increasing her power even further. Then Chase, as Super Mashin Chaser, rides his Ride Chaser to fight Angel. Their fight continues at a beach, where Angel uses Hiroshi by implanting the same feather she used for Chase, resulting in him feeling fake happiness. Super Mashin Chaser is unable to fight anymore due to the feather almost completely integrating with his circuit and is forcefully detransformed. As a final resort, he forcefully takes out the feather using the Rhino Super Viral Core Blade portion. This results in him becoming emotionless again, but regaining his sense of justice back, along with his Roidmude body functioning fully again.

Chase transforms into Kamen Rider Chaser, and while fighting Angel states that her method wouldn't bring peace, but rejection. This drives her insane. He then manages to finish Angel off for good using his Across Breaker finisher with the Shingou Ax, his Super Blade finisher with the Rhino Super Viral Core and his Chaser End Rider Kick after he manages to free the cores she absorbed by punching her chest.

Later, Chase meets Hiroshi again at the basketball court. He seems to have no recollection of their previous encounter, stating only that he knows the rules of basketball and he recommends to play it with friends. Hiroshi, while at first sad to see Chase like this again, takes his words in a positive manner, and enthusiastically agrees with him, now determined to make more friends. Chase leaves, emotionless as ever. All of his friends watched this exchange and greet him back. Chase asks them to give him some time to be alone and he rides his Ride Chaser off on the shore as he determines to save humanity once more as Kamen Rider Chaser.

Errors[]

  • When Drive used the Tridoron Dai-Hou shot, Shift Tridoron is still on the Shift Brace.
  • During the battle with Roidmude 051, Mr. Belt tells Chase to transform into Protodrive despite Shinnosuke still wearing the Shift Brace.
  • Mr. Belt was shown drinking and spit-taking milk before and during Chase's change, despite the fact that he lacks the neccessary internal organs to drink. (This may not necessarily be an error, as it may have been done intentionally for comic relief during those scenes).
  • When Drive and Accel finish off the Beast Dopant, "Speed" isn't heard after "Full Throttle".
  • Even though Deadheat Mach doesn't have the Signal Kaksarn Bike in the Mach Driver, the "Takusan Kaksarn" sound can still be heard.
