Darom (ダロム, Daromu) is a character in Kamen Rider Black Sun. He is one of the Three Priests of the Gorgom Party as the Trilobite Kaijin (三葉虫怪人, Sanyōchū Kaijin).
History[]
Past[]
Darom had been a senior member of the Gorgom movement since at least the 1970s. He went along with Yukari Shinjo's plan to kidnap the grandson of then - current Prime Minister Michinosuke Donami, so that Gorgom could have something of a leverage to negotiate with the government. In spite of the successful abduction, Darom was still pressured by Michinosuke into giving control of the Creation King to the government. This act ended up driving away a number of Gorgom members, namely Yukari, Bilgenia, Kotaro and Nobuhiko, who also took the Creation King with them to keep it out of the politicians' hands.
Darom and his followers eventually found the hiding place of their lord, and helped Michinosuke absorb what remained of the Gorgom movement into the government, thus establishing the basis for the Gorgom Party.
As a High Priest[]
By 2022, Darom had become one of the three de jure leaders of the Gorgom Party, alongside Baraom and Bishum. Despite this, the three Priests fundamentally worked for Shinichi Donami, providing the latter support in creating new Kaijins and Heat Heaven to be sold for high prices.
Seeing that the Creation King had grown less potent in the past few years, Shinichi tasked Darom and his peers with the mission of retrieving the full Kingstone, so that a new Creation King could be born. To that end, Darom sent his Kaijin subordinates out to hunt for one half of the Stone, which was in the possession of Aoi Izumi at the time. His quest for the artifact would bring him into conflict with his old compatriots Kotaro - who was determined to protect the girl, and Nobuhiko - who wanted to overthrow the Gorgom Party.
Although Darom faced certain setbacks, he managed to produce the full Kingstone to Donami, as Bilgenia had managed to abduct Aoi. Nevertheless, even he proved incapable of becoming a new Creation King. As the High Priests were still puzzled over what to do, Nobuhiko and Kotaro attacked their main headquarters. Darom briefly faced Kamen Rider Black Sun in combat, where he learned of the latter's desire to kill the Creation King.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Nobuhiko fell into despair, wanting to transform the Gorgom Party into a Kaijin supremacist group to wage war on humanity. Darom, deemed unsuitable to follow this new cause, was consequently killed by Bishum, being stabbed in the back by his fellow High Priest.
Personality[]
Unlike the other two Priests, Darom appeared to genuinely believe in preserving the Kaijin race, and as such had devoted his entire life to the Creation King. To that end, he was willing to make sacrifices should he feel such acts would contribute to the survival of his race in the grand scheme of things. As a result, he had demeaned himself for decades doing the bidding of the Donamis, so that Kaijins might have a chance of peaceful coexistence with humans in the long run. This was shown when he knelt and agreed to hand the Creation King over to the government, just so that the Prime Minister might consider accepting his terms for the betterment of Kaijin rights. In addition, he showed no hesitation in offering himself up as a replacement for the Creation King, even though the transformation could have cost him his free will.
According to Kotaro, Darom was of the notion that the value of a Kaijin's life was no difference from that of a human's. Despite this, owing to his long tenure as the leader of the Gorgom Party, Darom was all but directly responsible for their inhumane crimes against humanity, at times even at the expense of Kaijins (i.e. helping Shinichi with forcibly transforming abducted humans into Kaijins for auction, or sending the Spider and Anemone Kaijins to harm Aoi Izumi for the Kingstone). These wrongdoings, however, were viewed as necessary compromises, something that Darom really thought was the best course of action possible for his race.
While he initially disapproved of Nobuhiko's desire of going to war with humans, upon seeing the immense support the latter got from nearly all Kaijins, Darom was ready to follow his old foe's lead, to the point of presenting himself as the new "brain" of this new movement if needed. Determined as he was, Darom's long history of kowtowing to the government resulted in his demise at the hands of his very own peers.
