This article is about a type of villain in Kamen Rider Gotchard. |
The Dark Kings (冥黒王, Meikokuō) are the overarching antagonists of Kamen Rider Gotchard. They were three entities that resided behind the Door of Darkness, each possessing a goal to control alchemy or humanity for their own reasons.
Overview[]
The source of the Dark Kings' powers originate from the Philosopher's Stone (賢者の石, Kenja no Ishi). It was split into equal pieces amongst them and each possess 33% of the stone. The remaining 1% fragment would allow one of the Dark Kings to surpass the other two. Gigist is considered the weakest link of the three of them.
Due to Glion’s revival, Germain’s body is absorbed within Glion, thus Glion technically filled Germain’s position as one of the Dark Kings.
History[]
Background[]
In the early days of alchemy, three alchemists who were originally human, abandoned their humanity using the power of Philosopher's Stone and became an entity known as Dark King. Three of them were Germain, who specialised in alchemy, Gaelijah, who specialised in astrology, and Gigist, who created the first Chemies known as Gaiard and Dragonalos and specialised in theurgy. Later on, Dark King created and enslaved Glion.
120 years ago, Dark King were sealed behind Door of Darkness by Alchemist of the Daybreak, and remaining Glion joined Alchemys Union to continue his research.
The Dark Kings Return[]
The ritual Glion performed to open Door of Darkness caused a slight distortion in the Ouroboros circle. Understanding the current situation, Dark King split itself into three different entities again. The gap created by Glion's ritual was large enough for one of the Dark Kings to exit. Gigist left much ahead of Germain and Gaelijah's arrival to take the fragment of the Philosopher's Stone for himself.
After the other Dark Kings were defeated by Kamen Riders who awakened their final form, Glion absorbed the remaining Philosopher's Stone fragments in their bodies and transformed into Kamen Rider Eld, intending to achieve his goal of turning everything into gold. He created copies of the Dark Kings to prevent the Kamen Riders from stopping his plan, however, since the copies are mindless and does not have any Philosopher's Stone fragments inside their body, these copies were defeated by the Kamen Riders more easily than before.
Eld was eventually defeated by Kamen Rider Gotchard Ultima Steamhopper, and all the Philosopher's Stone fragments were distributed to all the Chemies at a rate of 1%. With Glion's death, all Dark Kings no longer exist.
Known Dark Kings[]
Notes[]
- All Dark King's name begin with the letter "G", including Glion.
- The three Dark Kings share the same mummy design with the Malgams, though the designs differ from each King:
- Gigist's body has multiple Malgam arms as his legs, with additional arms hanging off his chest.
- Germain has Malgam arms on his shoulders as his head is made from the wrappings.
- Gaelijah's head is made from the hands, as half of her upper body have arms coming off.
- The Dark Kings also share the same black body design, though it is more noticeable with Germain and Gaelijah, as Gigist's body is covered by the wrappings. They also all have a yellow stone on their chest as well, and a yellow triangle on their bodies.
