Daiji Igarashi (五十嵐 大二, Igarashi Daiji) is a Squad Leader of Fenix and the second son of the Igarashi family who spawned his own inner demon, Kagero and unwillingly transformed into Kamen Rider Evil (仮面ライダーエビル, Kamen Raidā Ebiru). As Daiji began learning to suppress Kagero, he became Kamen Rider Live (仮面ライダーライブ, Kamen Raidā Raibu) in his own right.

History

Background

Daiji Igarashi was born the second child of Genta and Yukimi Igarashi, and is the younger brother to Ikki and older brother to Sakura. At one point during his childhood, Daiji had gone missing during a camping trip and Ikki was able to find him. As a young adult in present day, Daiji made the decision to enter the Fenix cadet training program and eventually graduated, where he would rise through the ranks quite quickly.

The Deadman Crisis

Daiji hestitates using the Revice Driver

During his commencement ceremony as Fenix’s new captain, the Deadmans launch a big assault on Fenix to which Daiji and his teammates fight off the Giff Juniors and evacuate the civilians. When George Karizaki asked Daiji to use the Revice Driver to transform into a Kamen Rider, he hessiated in panic after seeing Hiromi Kadota failing to transform. However, it was Ikki who was able to use the Revice Driver to defeat the attacking Deadmen.

Recognizing his older brother's potential, Daiji pleaded for Ikki to work with Fenix. While Ikki opted to using the Revice Driver on occasions, he came around to becoming a full-time Kamen Rider after pursuaded through Daiji's wishes. Despite this, Daiji began to harbored hidden resentment towards his brother for taking his chance at the title. This allowed his inner demon, Kagero, to spawn and take over his body.

Daiji after transforming into Kamen Rider Live

Kagero used Daiji's body to transform into the mysterious Kamen Rider Evil to fight Revice. Once Fenix had caught onto Daiji's actions, his co-captain Hiromi became Kamen Rider Demons to put a stop to his schemes. Once Ikki became aware of Kagero's possession and Daiji's resentment, his brother managed to get through to Daiji and encouraged him to fight back. Upon regaining control of his body, Daiji officially uses the Two Sidriver to Kamen Rider Live.

While the Igarashi brothers becoming active Kamen Riders, their sister Sakura would find the means to become Kamen Rider Jeanne. Despite generally retaining control over his body, Kagero would occasionally resurface to cause trouble to Igarashi siblings. Through Kagero, the heroes manage to uncover the Deadmans base and Daiji would lead his squad to raid Giff's ceremony. Daiji would carry on to fight as Kamen Rider Live to shut down the Deadmans' operations.

Other Events

Kamen Rider Revice: The Movie

Daiji would appear to Ikki outside of Happy Spa to inform him the latest Deadmans rampage. He gives his brother a case that contained the Megalodon Vistamp. While Ikki prepared to rush off only wearing a towel, Daiji reminds Ikki to put on his clothes.

Personality

Daiji is described as clear-headed, being shy but quite prideful. He is somewhat submissive, generally meaning well but lacking confidence and often the necessary strength of will. While he loveds his family dearly, he suffers from an inferiority complex towards his older brother Ikki, whom he felt was constantly the center of attention. When Ikki became the Kamen Rider that Daiji was supposed to be, Daiji's pent-up frustration at being overshadowed yet again led to Kagero eventually taking control.

Despite this, Daiji is strong in his own way, as even though he was completely suppressed by Kagero, he continued to fight against his own inner demons deep down. Believing in his brother, Daiji was finally able to break free from his demons after Ikki reaffirmed his belief in Daiji's own strength.

Daiji has an extremely low tolerance for spicy food.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

  • Inner Demon Control: Daiji currently possesses the ability to keep his inner demon, Kagero, under control. Although Daiji's hidden resentment towards Ikki initially caused Kagero to let loose, his elder brother's encouragement motivated him to break free and suppress Kagero. After Daiji managed to gain control of his inner demon, the two are now able to switch places whenever Daiji's physical body receives a strong enough force to knock him out and render the dominant personality unconscious.

Abilities

  • Skilled Marksman: Daiji is accustomed to firearms during combat; this was shown when he uses his Gundephone 50 to vanquish several Giff Juniors, as well as mastering the Livegun in his debut as Kamen Rider Live with ease. He is also able to dual wield the Livegun alongside the Ohinbuster50 in Gun Mode effortlessly.
  • Tactician: Daiji was able to recognize a trap set by the Deadmans designed to keep the Kamen Riders away from their intended target.

Bat Genome (バットゲノム, Batto Genomu) is Live's bat-based primary form accessed by using the Bat Vistamp in the Two Sidriver.

All of Live's statistics exceed that of Revi and Vice's standard forms. Compared to Kamen Rider Evil, Live has higher punching and kicking power but slightly lower jumping height and running speed. Live can create golden energy waves from his kicks.

According to George, as Evil grows stronger, Live's power will also be increased by the same factor.

Bat Genome consists of the following parts:

  • Live Bat Head (ライブバットヘッド, Raibu Batto Heddo): The head.
    • Live Bat Echo (ライブバットエコー, Raibu Batto Ekō): The antennae. It reproduces echolocation utilizing the ultrasonic waves of bats and uses it as radar and flight control. The ultrasonic waves can also be used as a directed energy weapons and can confuse the target.
    • Bat Sacred (バットセイクリッド, Batto Seikuriddo): The face armor. The strong armor that protects the face is a combination of a radome and visual equipment. In addition, the special shape functions as an aileron during flight and aids attitude control in the air.

The bat construct flies alongside Live's kick before both strike the enemy, creating a gold shockwave upon impact. The bat construct then disappears into the point of impact before Live's kick breaks past the enemy, leaving behind a golden sonic boom.
  • Livegun + Ohinbuster50 finishers:
    • Bat Justice Finish + Ohing Strike: Gold energy gathers at the end of the Livegun's barrel while a cyan projection of the Ohinstamp's seal appears in front of the Ohinbuster50's barrel along with several blank pink and blue energy stamps. Live then fires both weapons, creating a blue projection of the Ohinstamp's seal and a gold projection of the Bat Vistamp's seal along with a burst of gold energy. A large gold blade-shaped energy projectile is fired from the Livegun while a ball of blue energy is fired from the Ohinbuster50. The two projectiles pierce the opponent, leaving large holes.

Jackal Genome (ジャッカルゲノム, Jakkaru Genomu) is Live's jackal and Kamen Rider Ex-Aid-based form accessed by using the Jackal Vistamp in the Two Sidriver.

Compared to Bat Genome, in this form all of Live's stats are slightly increased. Similar to Kamen Rider Evil's Jackal Genome, this form allows Live to move at blinding speeds while covered in light gold energy. He also able to perform gold energy slashes by swinging the Livegun.

Jackal Genome consists of the following parts:

  • Live Jackal Head (ライブバットヘッド, Raibu Jakkaru Heddo): The helmet.
    • Live Jackal Ear (ライブジャッカルイヤー, Raibu Jakkaru Iyā): The hearing device. It is equipped with a filtering function that blocks ambient noise, picks up only necessary sounds, and lets the user hear them. It is also equipped with a secret communication function for conducting voice conversations with a specific person.
    • Jackal Dispel Eye (ジャッカルディスペルアイ, Jakkaru Disuperu Ai): The compound eyes. Making use of the irregular shape, the field of view can be flexibly expanded and slanted. In this form, Kamen Rider Evil's stats are generally superior to Kamen Riders Revi and Vice's main forms, though both Eagle Genomes and Revi Jackal Genome have higher jump height, Vice Lion Genome has higher running speed, both Kong Genomes have higher punching power, and both Brachio Genomes have higher punching and kicking power.

By stamping a Vistamp onto his body, Evil can use its abilities:

  • Bat: Evil stamps the Bat Vistamp onto the emblem on his chest and fires green sonic waves from it that attack the enemy's hearing.

This large slash creates an explosion and is followed by is followed by a series of smaller, flickering slashes that launch the enemy away.
      • Driver: This finisher has two variations.
        • Teal energy from the Two Sidriver flows along the teal lines on Evil's suit before transferring to his lower leg. Evil then performs a spinning roundhouse kick while a rotating column of blue liquid appears behind him. The kick leaves behind a trail of teal liquid and creates a large teal energy slash upon impact. After the initial slash, several smaller teal energy slashes continue to attack the opponent
        • Teal energy from the Two Sidriver flows along the teal lines on Evil's suit while wind and bats surround him before transferring to his lower leg, accompanied by a burst of green and purple energy. Evil leaps forward with his leg covered in the teal, green, and purple energy and a green radar-like projection of the Bat Vistamp's seal appears behind him. He then delivers a flying kick to the enemy, creating another burst of green and purple energy as well as teal sonic waves upon impact.

  • Jackal Brandy Jacket (ジャッカルブランディージャケット, Batto Jakkaru Jaketto): The chest armor. The unique ability engraved with the symbol mark makes the user a jackal warrior.   • Kagero: Although the two do not have a good relationship, when Daiji is shocked by the existence of his inner demon, his hidden resentment ultimately proves to be stronger in comparison to his own weak will, enabling Kagero to possess Daiji effortlessly. Portrayal

  • Daiji Igarashi is portrayed by Wataru Hyuga (日向 亘, Hyuga Wataru). As Kamen Rider Live, his suit actor is Yuji Nakata (中田 裕士, Nakata Yūji).

Etymology

  • Like the rest of his family, his surname contains the kanji for "fifty" (五十嵐), likely a nod to Revice commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Kamen Rider franchise.
  • Daiji's first name contains the kanji for "two" (大), possibly referencing his status as both the Igarashi second-born son and the Secondary Rider of Kamen Rider Revice. It might also allude to him being the user of the Two Sidriver.
  • Live is a levidrome of Evil, as Daiji is a heroic Rider in contrast to Kagero.

Notes

  • Daiji's transformation pose is identical to Ikki's, except reversed.
  • Live's catchphrase, "Let's settle this seriously!" (大事に決めようか!, Daiji ni kimeyou ka!) is a pun on Daiji's own name.
    • Daiji's siblings also have catchphrases incorprating their names.
  • As a Kamen Rider, his main bat motif is part of the reoccurring bat/spider/cobra trio.
  • In contrast to Revi, Live's color scheme changes to match the respective Legend Rider color scheme.
  • Live's Jackal Genome helmet is repainted from Kamen Rider Evil's Jackal Genome helmet.
  • When utilizing an Auxiliary Genome, Evil/Live retains the arm and leg armor, but is equipped with redesigned chest armor as well as a new helmet.
