Manga[]

Kamen Rider Manga[]

In the original manga, Cobra Man was a man named Haruhiko (晴彦), who was inducted into Shocker alongside his girlfriend Miyoko (美代子), who became Snake Woman Medusa. The pair are initially assigned to assassinate protestors who oppose a factory run by Shocker; However, while chasing a young boy who witnessed his crimes, Cobra Man encounters Kamen Rider and becomes obsessed with defeating him. In battle, Cobra Man is gravely wounded by Kamen Rider's Rider Great Windmill.

The Great Leader orders the barely-alive Cobra Man's execution for disobeying orders, but Medusa convinces him to let her lover live. Cobra Man is reconstructed and the couple is given the mission to rob gold depositories to fund Shocker's activities. However, Cobra Man tips Hongo off to the scheme in order to have a rematch.

During the fight, Hongo tricks Medusa into firing her lasers into Cobra Man, killing him. In her sorrow, Medusa kills herself while cradling her lover's body.

The First[]

Main article: Haruhiko Mitamura

In the remake movie, Kamen Rider The First, Cobra Man is simply known as Cobra (コブラ, Kobura), the brainwashed state of Haruhiko Mitamura (三田村 晴彦, Mitamura Haruhiko), he is a special class soldier assigned to Bat's squadron, and later works independently alongside his romantic interest, Snake (formerly known as Miyoko Harada). He is mortally wounded by Kamen Rider 1's Rider Kick and dies while holding Snake's lifeless body in his arms.

As Cobra Man is both the first monster to be revived after being destroyed and the first to be given an improved form, he is often referenced by monsters in later series alongside Man Spider and Bat Man, the first monsters in the Kamen Rider series.
