Primary Riders (主役ライダー, Shuyaku Raidā, lit. Lead Riders) are the eponymous protagonists of their series, movies and specials. The majority of them count toward the list of main Kamen Riders Toei recognizes.

Showa Era[]

Takeshi Hongo is Kamen Rider 1 and the main protagonist of Kamen Rider. He is the first Rider in the Showa era and the entire franchise.
Hayato Ichimonji is Kamen Rider 2. After Hongo leaves Japan, Hayato takes his position as the main protagonist of the Kamen Rider for a significant period in the series.
Shiro Kazami is Kamen Rider V3 and the main protagonist of Kamen Rider V3.
Joji Yuki is Riderman in Kamen Rider V3. Although he is mainly a secondary hero, Riderman is considered a Primary Rider alongside V3, sometimes labeled "Kamen Rider 4".
Keisuke Jin is Kamen Rider X and the main protagonist of Kamen Rider X.
Daisuke Yamamoto is Kamen Rider Amazon and the main protagonist of Kamen Rider Amazon.
Shigeru Jo is Kamen Rider Stronger and the main protagonist of Kamen Rider Stronger.
