Malgam (マルガム, Marugamu) are monsters created as a result of combining Chemies with human malice.[1]
Overview[]
Malgams are considered abominations in Alchemist society, so much so that they have an Alchemical Law expressly aimed against their creation: "No Chemy must come into contact with Human malice."[2]
Malgam transmutation tends to happen automatically; when a human being full of malice comes into contact with a Chemy, directly or indirectly, the Chemy resonates with them and the two are fused into a monster with powerful abilities.[3] In addition, individuals can be forced into a Malgam transmutation by a sufficiently powerful dark Alchemist, even if they are an Alchemist themselves.[4] The human component of the Malgam tends to dominate the newly created being; the Malgam retains the personality and desires of the malicious human while the Chemy's mind is suppressed in favor of its physical attributes being expressed in the Malgam's body. In general, the transformation is quite harrowing to the Chemy and more often than not they will attempt to separate from the human and escape at the first opportunity.[3]
The powers the Malgam gains as a result of the transmutation are more or less based directly on the Chemy's innate abilities, but they can be influenced to some degree by the characteristics of the human component. The Skateboard Malgam gained the ability to suck up large amounts of currency and store it in a sort of pocket dimension, most likely due to Sudo's obsession with accumulating wealth.[3] Likewise, the Poisonous Mushroom Malgam gained the ability to spray a special type of spore that induced uncontrollable laughter in those that inhale it until they suffocated, as the human component, Takemoto, despised laughter as an expression of happiness. This allowed him to use it instead as a tool to spread misery, much to his glee.[5]
Normal humans can typically only withstand a Malgam transmutation with a single Chemy, but the Three Dark Sisters can transmute with multiple Chemies in order to gain greater power and improved combat abilities.[6] Lachesis in particular can use up to three Chemies in a Malgam transmutation.[7] Malgam Transmutations can also overlap with Rider Transformations, resulting in a drastic increase in power as show by the Ark-One Malgam.
Although Level Number 10 Chemies cannot be dominated or controlled conventionally, they are still susceptible to Malgam transmutation with a sufficiently malicious human.[8]
Malgams personally created by Glion's alchemy are gilded in gold. In addition to humans, he can create Malgams by fusing Chemies with constructs known as Malice Dolls to create an improved type of Malgam that are ever more evil. These Malgams are much more powerful and durable than their ordinary counterparts, and possess a powerful healing factor that allows them to regenerate parts that have been destroyed, even up to the entire upper half of their bodies.[9] Repli Chemies can also be transmuted to create Repli Malgam (レプリマルガム, Repuri Marugamu).
The Malgams transmuted by the Dark Kings are dark in color. Gigist is able to infuse Chemies with malice without the need of a human host, effectively transmuting the Chemy directly into a Dark Malgam. When these Dark Malgams are defeated, the transmuted Chemy is placed in a catatonic state rather than freed, effectively rendering them unusable. This dark transmutation is so powerful that not even Hopper1's own retransmutation ability into Crosshopper can resist it. However, with the power of Nijigon, its power as Rainbow Gotchard can defeat those Malgams and transform them back into Chemies safely, furthermore, Nijigon's Rainbow Breath can retransmute the tainted Chemies into Rainbow Chemies which can prevent the process of transmutation of Dark Malgam.
People that have once become Malgams are left with a Chemy Factor (ケミー因子, Kemī Inshi) as an aftereffect. Gaelijah can stimulate the Chemy Factor with her powers, causing them to regenerate into dark colored Malgams, even without their corresponding Chemies.[10]

Etymology[]
- Malgam is derived from the word amalgam, an alloy of mercury with another metal.
Conception[]
The Malgam are designed by Takato Yamashita (山下 貴斗, Yamashita Takato) and Masataka Shotsubo (庄坪 正剛, Shōtsubo Masataka) from PLEX.
Notes[]
- All Malgam have at least three upper limbs, with their original arms often crossed over the chest as an immobile part of the suit. This makes them appear as mummies in Egypt which connects due to alchemy originating from the country when it was controlled by the Ancient Greeks and the Three Dark Sisters who wears Ancient Egyptian-themed clothing.
- The appearances of the Malgams' bodies and transformation are due to designer Takato Yamashita proposing that cable ties be used as the motif since the Chemies are being bound by human malice[11].
- Malgam are the third Reiwa Era monsters to utilize the transformation items used by the Riders of their series, after Raiders in Kamen Rider Zero-One and Deadmen in Kamen Rider Revice.
