Granute

This article is about a race of monsters in Kamen Rider Gavv.

The Granute (グラニュート, Guranyūto) are a race of alien lifeforms from another world in Kamen Rider Gavv.

Overview[]

The Granute are beings from another world that have a second mouth called a Gavv on their abdomen.^[1] Ordinary inhabitants of the Granute world live similar lives to Earth humans. Most Granutes in the human world are "part-timers" (バイト, baito) working for Stomach Inc.. Stomach Inc. has developed technology to disguise themselves as humans, allowing them to hide amongst people. These Granutes capture humans with their Gavv's tongue, transforming the victims into Human Press that is handed over to the company's Agents in exchange for Dark Snacks. Members of the Stomach Family are able to create Agents from their Gavvs, whereas Shoma instead creates the Gochizo.

Etymology[]

• The name of the Granute is derived from the Japanese term for granulated sugar (グラニュー糖, Guranyū To).

Design[]

• The Granute are designed by a team of three character designers to emphasize their different positions in Stomach Inc.'s social structure.^[2]
  • The monster forms of the Stomach Family siblings are designed by Tamotsu Shinohara (篠原 保, Shinohara Tamtosu).
  • The Agents' masks are designed by Shoma Muto (武藤 聖馬, Muto Shōma).
  • The part-timers are designed by K-SuKe.
• K-SuKe incorporated fly elements into the designs of the part-timer Granutes to reflect the themes of gluttony and decomposition.^[3]
  • For example, Otake has a fly's head and thorax on his chest, while Dean has an entire fly on his right shoulder.

• The Granute are the first monsters since the Phantoms to have personal names.
• Granute working for Stomach being referred to as part-timers is a pun, as the Japanese term for part-time job" (バイト, baito) is written and pronounced the same as the English word "bite".
• Similar to many previous monsters, the part-timers share the same three lower bodies.
