This article is about a race of monsters in Kamen Rider Gotchard. |
The Chemies (ケミー, Kemī) are a group of 101 artificial lifeforms created by alchemists. Each individual Chemy possesses a supernatural power that can easily change the order of the world. Because Chemy in particular turn into dangerous monsters known as Malgam when they come into contact with human malice, they were sealed into the Ride Chemy Cards by a former clan of alchemists.
As a rule with the Alchemist Academy, the Chemy must not come into contact with the malevolence of man, to protect the order of the world.[1]
Overview[]
The first two Chemies, Dragonalos and Gaiard, are created by the Dark King named Gigist. Later, based on the original two Chemies, the human alchemists continue to doing experiments, in a one-in-a-million chance alchemy techniques last, there are cases where inanimate objects become living things, resulting in the birth of other Chemies. Some of the Chemies are a bit cranky, but they are actually very nice. If you get through to them, they'll become your friends.[2]
The highest ranking Chemies are the Level Number 10s, possessing greater strength and willpower far beyond the other Chemies of their respective categories. Their strength is so great that they cannot be bound like other Chemies. While they can be confined to a Ride Chemy Card, they are capable of breaking through the seal of their card and escaping should they wish.[3] It is shown that a Level 10 Chemy can let itself be sealed through the user’s intentions, as shown when Houtaro Ichinose summoned UFO-X because he wanted to save Sabimaru Tsuruhara from the Three Dark Sisters and Kamen Rider Dread.
Fantastic and Cosmic Chemies can only be controlled by a limited number of high-ranking alchemists.[4]
It is later shown that Chemies are capable of performing Re-Transmutation (再錬成, Sairensei) on themselves either on their own or with external assistance from others, allowing them to transform into a evolved version of their original forms. They are also capable of switching back to their original forms after usage of Reforging. The only known Chemies who have performed Re-Transmutation are Madwheel, Steamliner and Hopper1, who each transformed into Machwheel, Tenliner and Crosshopper respectively.
Furthermore, it is important to note that not all Chemies are born with "artificial souls", some are reincarnated from living things after their previous lives ended for various reasons, like in the case of the Geats Chemy (who was once the pet dog of Ace Ukiyo).
According to Gigist, the Chemies were originally meant to be plagues for mankind, but Houtaro turned them away from their original purpose.
History[]
The progenitor Chemies, Dragonalos and Gaiard, were created by Gigist. Their power was so great that the concept of Level Numbers was created. The Level Number 10s that were created later had equal power and were given the roman numeral "X".[5] Over the next 120 years, alchemists replicated his alchemy and created the remaining 98 Chemies.
According to Minato, the development of new Chemies was prohibited ten years prior to the events of the series. The Kongo Laboratory secretly resumed their research to alchemize new Chemies with perfect souls following their defection from the Alchemys Union.
In the final battle against Kamen Rider Eld, Houtaro created New Earth resembling the Earth, he defeats Glion with his new power and combination with all the Chemies. Afterwards, the Chemies were evenly distributed 1% of the Philosopher's Stone fragments, continued to survive on the New Earth. Houtaro sees the creation of the New Earth as one of the advances in the coexistence of humans and Chemy.

- Level Number 10 Chemies possess an X-shaped marking in their designs alongside the vector arrows, and sometimes combining the two elements.
- The number 101 is often used for an introductory course.
- The concept of Chemies, as cards and animated creatures, is similar to Pokémon.
